to think that this check out assistant was really quite thick?

So I was paying for my shopping in Morrisons this week and DD was with me with Robert, her black dolly. On taking the money the assistant looked at me and did one of those stage whisper kind of things, you know when they whisper quite loudly, really emphasising the words with overly full on mouth movements, and said "I'm not being racious or anything" and yes, she really did say Racious, not racist, "but I thought they they'd banned them now", pointing at Robert!!! Bit of an open mouthed look from me and she said "yes, I thought they'd banned black dolls these days".

I could only muster up a weak "no, I don't think so", before wandering off, shaking my head in disbelief Shock

I got caught up in a racious dolly moment in Woolies once upon a time. My daughter desperately wanted a mermaid Barbie for her birthday. I went to buy it in Woolies. I admit I was a bit surprised at her choice when I saw they were all black mermaid Barbies. When I got back to work with it, a colleague wondered why I'd chosen that one over the advertised one. [Hmm] Looked online and sure enough, there was blond haired blue eye mermaid Barbie, which I knew instantly was the one she wanted.

So there's me trying to explain to the black lady on customer services that I wanted to exchange the doll for a blond one because my daughter would be really upset to get a black one. All while trying not to be percieved as being racious. The lady was really sweet and dramatically whispered to me 'don't worry, my daughter wanted to the blond one too.'

Oh dear, yes, agree, was stupid thing for her to say.
And also agree not because she works in a checkout.

We know a couple, who happen to be gay, before I get accused of saying 'why did you say they were gay? does that matter? eh eh?', it doesn't matter but contextually it will. Bear with me...One of them is so painfully right on, we cringe every time he 'starts'. Anyway, for my eldest dd's 5th birthday, he bought her a black barbie and skillfully removed one of it's legs and put a pink whistle aound its neck, thus making a black, gay diabled barbie. She loved it - and discussed it at great length in 'Show and Tell'.

Brilliant, norris.

I remember at a previous job, someone talking about another member of staff. To differentiate between the 3 other Davids, whoever it was said 'he is black'.

This stupid tart then whispers, 'ooh, you can't say that, you have to say coloured nowadays'. I mean, seriously, WTF.

To be fair though, she was the most stupid person I have ever met in my entire life.

whackamole · 30/09/2011 15:32

Oh no! Italic didn't work!
