To think that Gillian Mckieth has a point?

I don't get why she is so universally vilified (aside from her jungle antics.) Ok the poo thing is a bit much and she is too skinny which isn't the best advert BUT I think she does those morbidly obese people good on You are what you eat. It is definately better to be on the thin side than morbidly obese.

When you see their diets laid out on the table and there is NO fruit and veg but tons of greasy fast food, I think she does them a great service telling them to sort their diets out. It could greatly reduce their chances of disease and even death.

I think she is vilified because people don't like to be lectured or rather they don't want to face up to or change their crap lifestyles.

I have started thinking about this recently as mum recently died of cancer so I am taking an avid interest in health and fitness and I do think that there is some sense in the notion that you are what you eat.

shes not allowed to call herself Dr McKeith any more as it alluded to medical/academic qualifications she doesnt have.so she doesnt mind the association of academia or a regulated profession.or the financial gain of selling as Dr PooExaminer

just she forgot to do any book learning or like proper science

nutrition is v important and yes one shoule be aware of what one eats.but nutrition business (and it is big business) is full of quacks and goons who are unregulated and uncountable. peddling quasi science and placebo pills

by comparison dietetics is a post graduate or undergraduate degree, regulated and with clinical placements too

scottishmummy · 29/09/2011 20:23

she is absolutely radiant with good health.
no she isnt she looks embalmed and stretched

scottishmummy · 29/09/2011 20:26

oh silly me i read that wrong.of course youre not saying that
any dietitian is just going to love a chance to debunk gillian

noblegiraffe · 29/09/2011 21:19

She says "each sprouting seed is packed with the nutritional energy needed to create a full-grown, healthy plant"

Science fail.

TurkeyBurgerThing · 29/09/2011 21:24

She likes to sniff turds in packed lunch boxes. That is how she gained her imaginary PhD.

LineRunner · 29/09/2011 21:27

Her 'doctoral thesis' was apparently a thin, poory-referenced (and that's being generous) pamphlet on foods that earned the conferrement of a degree from the Interweb University of Americky, allegedly.

scottishmummy · 29/09/2011 21:28

glad to see so many others find her risible

BelleDameSansMerci · 29/09/2011 21:36

She's nuts, IMO. And an arrogant, lying old bat.

scottishmummy · 29/09/2011 21:44

aye now surely your face isnt skelped as result of sniffing other folks keech

GreenEyesandNiceHam · 29/09/2011 21:52

I once, in a moment of temporary insanity, purchased a box of her 'Detox Powders'. One sachet, that's all I consumed, and the world fell out of my arse, a mere twenty minutes later.

I cannot even bring myself to spit out her name!

BelleDameSansMerci · 29/09/2011 21:53

Grin scottishmummy... No, thank heavens!

scottishmummy · 29/09/2011 21:54

oh stop, thats a v visual image and onomatopoeic here that squelch

HardCheese · 29/09/2011 22:25

Thanks for that image, GreenEyes...

I believe Ben Goldacre was able to buy the same pseudo-qualification Pooface has by filling in an online form in the name of his dead cat and sending a cheque to some godforsaken place in the US...

I got her products (birdseed bars etc) barred from my local healthfood shop.

rimmerfleadick · 29/09/2011 22:27

As much of a point as a broken pencil.

sarahtigh · 29/09/2011 22:50

she might be thin but she does not look healthy, she looks gaunt and tired; I think Nigella lawson looks healthier and definitely looks like her life is more fun

her dietary advice is contrary to any dietary advice you would be given at an NHS clinic for morbidly obese
of course 10 fry ups a week and no veg is unhealthy but she thinks 1 mug of milky coffee and a slice of white toast and you will be dead by the end of next week.

does any one like quinoa porridge? and what precisely is wrong with normal porridge made with oats? green smoothies are just wrong

hellsbells76 · 30/09/2011 09:09

I love Ben Goldacre's line 'Dr Gillian McKeith - or, to give her her full medical title, Gillian McKeith' Grin

scottishmummy · 30/09/2011 09:10

aye.killer line.makes me smile everytime

Morloth · 30/09/2011 09:20

All the fraud stuff aside.

She really just isn't a great advertisement for her lifestyle is she? So cranky and miserable.

I would rather be fat. But that isn't necessary either.

You can eat well, do plenty of exercise and have fun without worrying about every mouthful or fretting about your poo.

BalloonSlayer · 30/09/2011 09:34

She probably looks worse than Nigella Lawson because she hasn't had much "done." She is 5 years older than me but I'd say I look worse. I do not know any 51 year old who looks like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=nigella+lawson&hl=en&sa=X&biw=1024&bih=649&tbm=isch&prmd=imvnso&tbnid=uv-6OsVFew6_jM:&imgrefurl=www.nigellalawson.net/&docid=6c_mwB0rxVuXM&w=300&h=244&ei=jX6FTua_Hoay8QO-vYU&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=440&vpy=186&dur=497&hovh=191&hovw=235&tx=137&ty=81&page=1&tbnh=120&tbnw=153&start=0&ndsp=20&ved=1t:429,r:3,s:0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this in real life without surgery/botox/fillers and I genuinely suspect that Nigella does not look like this in real life either.

Clearly there are ishoos with falsifying her qualifications, and I am not sure about the revolting sounding stuff she got people to try to eat.

But I do think the idea of getting volunteers - yes they are VOLUNTEERS - to address their eating habits trough shock tactics is not all that terrible.

I certainly remember it making me think about what my week's food all lined up would look like. . . and wincing a bit.

The poo thing was gross of course, however once again it did bring to people's notice that if you are eating all the wrong stuff you end up constipated and even fatter, and that if you are not having a healthy regular bowel movement then you might want to think about looking at your diet.

BalloonSlayer · 30/09/2011 09:36

oh my link dropped off !

Apparently there is a new tv show with properly qualified dietitian coming soon. Looking forward to it.
