To be envious that my neighbour lives in a council house........

and pays £600 a month less than me for the exact same bloody house (her's is nicer inside) next door to mine?

Difference is hers is a council house, mine is a private rental. The owner of mine bought it from the council and now rents it out while he lives in a 4 bed detached house in a nicer part of town. We pay £950 a month, neighbour pays council £350 a month (3 bed terrace). We had to move here after selling our house last year because DH lost his job and we needed to release the small amount of equity we had to pay the bills we were behind on because we were terrified of being in debt. Our rent is now £150 a month higher than our mortgage was.

We struggle every bloody month and live on 'value' food. We are not entitled to housing benefit (DH now working again after a year, I work part time - 3DCs). Neighbour's DH is an accountant so she can afford not to work at all. That £600 would make a massive difference in our lives but we have not got a chance in hell of getting a council house. There are over 5000 people on the waiting list in my area. We are on the list but have been told that it could be over 5 years before we have a chance. Love my neighbour to bits but can't help feeling pissed off about it!

AIBU to think that this is bloody unfair?

I wish I could like your comment Flaming about the hot tub LOL

I'd be reluctant to move areas I admit BUT only becuase it has taken me 6 years to get decent schooling sorted and I am scared of moving outside catchments for school transport. Within catchment I really don't care, but it would take a lot of chainsawing to enable ,me to get the boys to 4 different schools (junior, LA nursery, ASD Base, general SN Base) without help and DH is out earning money every morning. As would I be if I possibly could.

PeachyWhoCannotType · 28/09/2011 19:27

If yopu apply to the council you can get a blue badge for teh hot tub that lets you aprk it in any garden you fancy, anywhere.

AuntieMoanica · 28/09/2011 19:30

is there where the goats come back in?

i haven't got a goat and i live in an ex-council house that i privately rent

i fucking love it, it's great. all the perks but none of the nasty bitterness and downright insulting shite you see on threads like this is directed at me.

Grin

christ, some people are fucking awful to others.

oksonowwhat · 28/09/2011 19:32

Been in exactly your position before EE. Wanting a house i can decorate and call my own. Some people just want a roof over their heads though, any old roof.

I eventually got my house. We had FIVE different houses in one year. These were always temporary measures. My children were tiny and it was very unsettling for them. Now i am in a HA house and working all hours to pay for it, no benefits here.

Oh just had a new kitchen installed:) I'm a very lucky person i know that. Now if only i could pick it up and move it to a 'nice area'. Actually i really don't mean that because mine is in the most glorious small village but near enough to town to make it just perfect:)

So, i went through the crap times and now i have my little castle:) Although i wish i actually got some time to spend in it instead of always working.

oksonowwhat · 28/09/2011 19:34

Park it round my gaff for a while Peachy:) Nice country view whilst bubbling away:) Bliss.

PeachyWhoCannotType · 28/09/2011 19:34

it's MAggie's fult, she made the no goat rule

Wink
BlobChob · 28/09/2011 19:36

Nice gaff usual I've got my eye on several sturdy cardboard boxes at present. I can't find one big enough for all 5 of us. Should be able to pick up some carpet scraps from Freecycle though! Wink

Flaming...you've thrown a massive amount of grounding perspective into this thread. You enjoy your house and make sure you get that adapted hot tub! Grin

PeachyWhoCannotType · 28/09/2011 19:36

I've got a hugely appropriate view

The wall of a massive ASD unit.

It means there's always someone noiser or with a bigger range od unusual noises than my boys (though it took us years to realise the odd bird at dawn each day was in fact not a bird but a human being). I still haven;t figured out why some days there are large numbers of broken cups by our door though.

5inthebed · 28/09/2011 19:37

Oooo I had a post deleted! I can finally tick that of my MN bingo card!

PeachyWhoCannotType · 28/09/2011 19:38

Was it a good 'un 5in? Was eating tea. (yes or no or elsewhere, if you repeat it I will get told off LOL)

oksonowwhat · 28/09/2011 19:41

A guy i work for has mental health problems and he leaves a pile of pots and pans by his door each night. To keep, in his words "the two over weight, jelly tot eating lesbians from coming in and eating my food" If that makes him happy i'm happy to climb over a few pots each morning. (we have no overweight lesbians here by the way, just to add!)

So as for the broken cups Peachy, i shouldn't worry too much!

usualsuspect · 28/09/2011 19:41

madmomma · 28/09/2011 19:51

That would stick in anyone's throat. YANBU, but I guess you've just got to forget about it or it'll drive you mad.

AuntieMoanica · 28/09/2011 19:51

is 'terrace' a banned word now? Grin

usualsuspect · 28/09/2011 19:51

no it rhymes with cat

oksonowwhat · 28/09/2011 19:52

If such 'terrace' is on a Council Estate then i presume yes, banned:)

OpinionatedMum · 28/09/2011 19:53
