I think most people here are like me: Never made a speech in front of a large audience using your proper name and not a screen nickname.

No one's saying he's not charismatic and all the rest of it. It obviously comes naturally to him. But there's not exactly a shortage of people in the UK who can make speeches. Too many people hide behind charisma but have little to say for themselves or turn out not to be as clean-cut as they seem. It's not as if he was going out on a totally original limb either- I can very well believe he did write that speech, it's so safe.

Yes, the labour party have done themselves no favours there. If you're going to expose yourself to the media, be prepared for the real truth to be revealed, including the bits you'd rather keep hidden.
