... when they are promoting "healthy eating" and have banned fizzy drinks in school .

Its a bit hypocritical of them .

Now , aside from being a bit Confused . . . It feels like im being blackmailed into buying fizzy drinks , as my twins will be the only kids who dont bring in a stupid plastic bottle.

I dont allow twins fizzy drinks .

The school are being "enviromental " and building a "greenhouse" from bottles.

Got to laugh at the letters for drinks bottles being handed out the same time as child-smile letters !

Mabey i should just tell the dentists Wink.

AuntMonica - I am Grin at the thought of a blue panda pops fountain, hitting the dining room ceiling!

I was going to come on here and suggest tesco value water (still or sparkling) at under 20p a bottle, but see I have been beaten to it.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 21/09/2011 12:14

Making rockets with scouts? Wouldn't that damage the scouts?

Also need to know why the baked potato - I have no clue what that could be for, but do feel that it should be the proper Delia one.

Blu · 21/09/2011 12:17

Calm down, you'll explode like a shook-up bottle!

Presumably it is a request, rather than an instruction? As in 'IF you happen to have 2l bottles, whether from Coke or Expensive Mineral Water, rather than putting the bottles in the re-cycling, could you kindly bring them into school, please?'

So if you have no such bottles, don't send them.

Sainsburys Basics still spring water is about 20p for a 2l bottle. Buy one and either drink the water or use it water flowers or something.

picnicbasketcase · 21/09/2011 12:34

...Which about thirty other people have just said. Shouldn't skip to the end.

patindahat · 21/09/2011 12:42

OddBoots what a fantastic solution many thanks for that link.

wigglesrock · 21/09/2011 12:43

Shock I buy 2 litre bottles of fizzy juice for myself and the odd time my husband, goes down a treat with the vodka. I just tell the children they're not allowed it..

LadyBeagleEyes · 21/09/2011 12:43

I you sure it's a baked potato?
Maybe your dc got mixed up, and they just want a potato.

Ormirian · 21/09/2011 12:46

Oh FFS!

You could buy water in them.
Alternatively you could buy a bottle of lemonade once in a while. I am not aware of children spontaneously combusting due to the consumption of a fizzy drink once a week or so.

nickelbabe · 21/09/2011 12:50

they're making rockets.

they'll fill a bucket with water and then put the bottles in and pump, to make the rocket fly.

nickelbabe · 21/09/2011 12:52

a greenhouse?
that's jsut odd.
sorry, i read the whole post apart from the last bit where you say they want to make a greenhouse.

WilsonFrickett · 21/09/2011 12:55

Also wants to know about the potato...

startail · 21/09/2011 12:56

No it won't damage the Scouts, but it may get them wet.
You part fill a bottle with water and attach a bike pump with a valve that pops out after you've got to a reasonable pressure and the bottle shoots into the sky. Or into next doors French window (DH and my DadBlush)
Make sure you do use a fizzy drinks bottle, DH ( you can see a pattern here) deafened himself by exploding an old style washing up liquid bottle, because it split before the bike pump was pushed out.

GandTiceandaslice · 21/09/2011 13:06

Buy some cola & some mentos & do that experiment.

Then your little ones can take the bottle in.

We don't have pop in my house as I only like the fat stuff & I'd drink loads of it! And none of my freaky children like fizzy stuff.

geraldinetheluckygoat · 21/09/2011 13:15

DS's school has a big greenhouse like this, all the bottles are threaded on to bamboo sticks, its brilliant!

droves · 21/09/2011 13:39

Grin ...You lot are hillarious ! Grin
Love the coke in mentos thingy ! hehhe need to go buy some stuff to try that out Wink .

Still wondering about the potato . .. COOKED OR UNCOOKED ?

Love the rocket idea !!!

How many of you used to watch blue peter , and make the stuff

Drink bottle green house is very bp ! Grin

Well, just reporting back about the bizarre potato request.....

I sent DS off this morning with his freshly baked spud, nicely packed in a poly bag (I resisted the temptation to add a knob of butter and a sprinkling of chives). Not only did he arrive in class with essentially a bag of mash, but, yes, you guessed it, what a numpty, it was a raw potato he needed. Grin

He wasn't the only one who misunderstood, he was positive it had to be baked; I'm wondering if the teacher said baking potato.

Anyway, those who had brought the correct raw spuds cut them up and used them to make contour maps (mountains and such-like).

So now you know what you do with a potato in a Y7 Humanities lesson!

LadyBeagleEyes · 23/09/2011 00:12

Told you so (sort of)
Grin

nickschick · 23/09/2011 00:29

Im disappointed about the potato thing Sad Wink.

How the hell does a 'pop bottle' greenhouse work?

AnxiousElephant · 23/09/2011 00:34

Perhaps you need to chill out every night with a lovely vodka and coke Grin or bacardi, whisky and lemonade Grin Once you have becomea-- drunk the fizz you can recycle them at the school ....... that way the neighbours won't know you have a drink problem because they won't be in the recycling outside Grin

WilsonFrickett · 23/09/2011 00:44

Tattie-faced Grin

theyoungvisiter · 23/09/2011 07:51

"How the hell does a 'pop bottle' greenhouse work?"

Well - like any other greenhouse I guess! You make it easy for light to get in, and hard for heat to get out.

So you string the bottles together on beanpoles or something, nice and close together. They are clear so light can get in, it hits the plants and converts to heat, and then the heat cannot get out because the bottles are so close together. They are probably quite good insulators because they are full of trapped air.

theyoungvisiter · 23/09/2011 07:55

Here is one guy's "how to".

I WANT ONE NOW!!!
