... when they are promoting "healthy eating" and have banned fizzy drinks in school .

Its a bit hypocritical of them .

Now , aside from being a bit Confused . . . It feels like im being blackmailed into buying fizzy drinks , as my twins will be the only kids who dont bring in a stupid plastic bottle.

I dont allow twins fizzy drinks .

The school are being "enviromental " and building a "greenhouse" from bottles.

Got to laugh at the letters for drinks bottles being handed out the same time as child-smile letters !

Mabey i should just tell the dentists Wink.

DS1 (Year 7) tells me he has to take in some cardboard and a baked potato for a Humanities project.

A baked potato.

WTF are they going to do with that?

LEMONAIDE · 20/09/2011 22:53

I think you will find most families will put their hands on a fizzy drink bottle easier than an Evian bottle which is why they have used that word...im sure they dont care what the original contents of the bottle are.

Our school did the same - we dont have fizzy drinks as I only buy them occasionaly as a "treat" and I stopped buying bottled water as it was less environmentally friendly than turning on the tap - we didnt supply bottles but they ended up with enough anyway, so in the scheme of things - unimportant - dont give it another thought!!

LEMONAIDE · 20/09/2011 22:54

Love to know the humanities use for a baked potato though!

droves · 20/09/2011 22:58

Smile . Dh used to be manager for asda . They used lemonade to clean beetroot stains from shop floor, it was the only thing that took the stain out. Which is one of the reasons why i dont give fizzy drinks to kids.
Dont believe in fizzy water ....its just wrong ...water should be still.

Still think its a bit Hmm school says no fizzy drinks in school ...and asks for bottles ...must be ok at home then . Or is there people who drink it themselves but dont give to their kids.

So will i .....a) ask neighbour if she has any bottles i can have ?
..............b ) buy some and use it to clean loo/drown ants
or .............c ) buy a bottle of fizzy juice and send it into school ...well , they didnt actually specify that it had to be empty bottle Wink.

Grin thanks for replying to thread.

Does it have to be baked , or can it be microwaved and pretend its baked .

Its not really the same is it ?.

I hadn't thought about the cooking method for the potato. I assume it isn't going to be eaten, so I shan't do my best Delia and rub it with olive oil and sea-salt first. Grin

I'll report back after Thursday when I find out the fate of the spud.

Well yes of course it's ok at home and any decent school will teach their children that the occasional treat won't kill them Hmm

Of course it's ok at home and/or ok drunk by mum/dad/older siblings. OP you are definately over thinking this. Please don't mention it at school - you will look like a twit.

Scholes34 · 21/09/2011 09:14

I think the OP thinks health eating equates to no treats. My DCs have fizzy drinks now and again (fully laden with sugar and none of that sweetener nonsense). I wouldn't dream of giving them fizzy drinks with their weekday lunches and would fully support the school in banning fizzy drinks from school. The school isn't being hypocritical.

I suppose the brown 2ltr bottles from the dry cider I use to cook chicken in wouldn't be suitable.

Fennel · 21/09/2011 09:19

You can use cheap coke to descale the loo. I learned that from Mumsnet on a rare foray into Good Housekeeping. That is a worthy way to use up 2li fizzy drinks.

OddBoots · 21/09/2011 09:20

Maybe they have run out of money for lighting.

video link to quite a cool project

AuntieMonica · 21/09/2011 09:21

you know the real reason schools ban fizzy drinks?

it's bugger all to do with health, but imagine 45 reception kids running through the corridor, lunchbags in hand...bouncing along like the little bundles of energy they are then settling down to lunch - meal supervisors having to open all the bottles as with all that running they've fizzed up to maximum capacity then WHOOOSH 45 panda pops creating a sticky bright blue coloured volcano 30ft high! Grin

munstersmum · 21/09/2011 09:23

Buy a six pack I say. Next it will be a 2ltr bottle and a yoghurt pot - making little wells for science.

Kladdkaka · 21/09/2011 09:47

How about a 2ltr bottle of cider for adult consumption?

theyoungvisiter · 21/09/2011 09:55

Dear OP, earn yourself extra parenting gold stars by buying a bottle of fizzy drink and using the contents in an educational SCIENCE project.

Google diet coke mentos for instructions and then have a little chat about the science behind the reaction.

And sleep safe in the knowledge that you are a much better parent than all those other so and sos who let their children drink the stuff.

theyoungvisiter · 21/09/2011 10:00

btw that last bit was tongue in cheek - forgot the ;)

caramelwaffle · 21/09/2011 10:01

Perhaps they are doing experiments in Science classes and require the fizzy water (that was my first thought)

slartybartfast · 21/09/2011 10:02

do you drink beer in your house?
you can buy big beer bottles? Grin

or you dont have to provide bottles, i am sure they will ahve plenty

SwingingBetty · 21/09/2011 10:03

gawd if some people had brains they would be dangerous

do you not think the request for fizzy bottles was just descriptive, not exact. They want two litre plastic bottles. Use water bottles ffs!

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 21/09/2011 10:06

I want to know how to make a greenhouse out of empty bottles. Would be brilliant on the allotment.

[Off to google ...]

startail · 21/09/2011 10:06

This sounds like the perfect project for our school next Summer.
Our stupid council want to go onto fortnightly rubbish collections, but without putting decent recycling in place first.
If school want plastic bottles it will save me leaving them on the council officers door step.

Fennel · 21/09/2011 10:07

Our school is collecting 2li plastic bottles to build a greenhouse in gardening club. They don't say it has to have had fizzy liquid in it, they just need that size and shape of bottle.

minimisschief · 21/09/2011 11:36

They probably said fizzy drink bottles because they are all thesame size and shape rather than weirdly shaped square water/juice bottles.

get over it and buy some 20p bottles from tesco and pour it down the sink.

scaryteacher · 21/09/2011 12:11

Perhaps they're making rockets...ds did at one point with scouts.
