A minor grump,if I may?

Every so often I will do something new. The dc's and I all find it tasty, I find it tasty. It's normally a recipe recommended to me by family, friends or Mnetters that they have found tasty.

Dh will eat till he's full, then say not to do it again as it was bland.

Tonights offering was a mild but very tasty curry from Mnet, I tried it, and liked it. Dh said it had hardly any flavour.

He's not rude or horrible, just insistent that he is correct and we are all abnormal in some way Hmm. He also does it in restaurants, I will try his meal and it's fine.

AIBU to think that as Dh smokes over 20 cigarettes a day I can disregard his opinion on the subject?

Dh INSISTS that smoking does not impair your sense of taste and this is a myth.

AIBU or is dh?

Amber I am a good cook, (he hates his Mums cooking Wink)

this has only become a recent occurrence over the last year. I don't take offence if something is awful, he is entitled to an opinion, but even dishes we have had previously he is calling bland.

The curry last night had red chillies, garlic, cumin fennel and so forth in, so I wouldn't describe that as bland.

(MiL puts salt on bacon, it makes me wince Grin)

If its not smoking, what else can affect his taste buds?

Honey, before I even got to your last line I was thinking...'whats going on'? are there any health concerns?

Does he suffer with any sinus problems?

AmberLeaf · 19/09/2011 11:57

Ps your curry sounds yum Smile

My OH is like this, well the not tasting bit. He adds chilli sauce to most things. He does it with everything not just my cooking so I'm pretty sure it's his 'problem' rather than my cooking. More of an issue is how much salt he adds when he is cooking. He has never smoked.

Ephiny · 19/09/2011 12:45

Sounds like it might be the smoking - he could try giving up and seeing if it makes a difference, especially as it's not good for him anyway!

Either way though, I do think it's rude of him to moan about the food you've cooked for him, very bad manners and not a good example for the DCs.

diddl · 19/09/2011 13:38

Depending on the meal, why is´t he adding seasoning if he finds it bland rather than saying not to bother with a meal that three others have enjoyed?

That or he cooks something for himself when the others decide that they would like that meal again.

Schnullerbacke · 19/09/2011 14:10

Ha, doesnt that ring a bell. A few weeks ago my PILs came over. She usually cooks but I thought it would be nice for me to do as they just came off a very long flight.

So there I was, cooking mushroom curry. Tasted good to me, what does DH do? Complained that it should taste different (erm, dear, everyone does cook a particular dish differently, there is no right way of cooking this mushroom curry). Anyhow, as this wasnt the first time he had been so rude about it, I have since stopped cooking. They come back late from an outing or feel tired? Nope, no longer my problem. If he had said it in a nice way, such as suggesting I put more salt in etc, then I wouldnt have been offended. Dont do rude, sorry.

UANBU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Grin sound like my dh isn't the only one who needs lessons in the difference between constructive and rude Grin

diddl He doesn't put Salt or Pepper on anything, says he "trusts the chef" ...Hmm

Definitely get him to make his own.

My dad recently lost his sense of taste. He did go to see the GP. First they thought it might be a fungal infection then confirmed it as a side effect of acid reflux. There are other reasons other than smoking that he may not be tasting his food - he should go and get checked out - especially if everyone else is still enjoying their meals - clearly HE is BU not you.
