FFS walkers crisps have been around for yeeeeears, so why do I still expect a blue bag of crisps to be salt and vinegar?

I'm 29 but this makes me feel so old! Kids look at me like I'm daft, and also though I have made up opal fruits!!

I had the same convo with my DH last week - I will never get used to blue being C & O!

BimboNo5 · 18/09/2011 20:29

teehee I got sniggered at the other day at work when I called a starburst an opal fruit

Arrgh the arrogance of Walkers!

Incidentally, does anyone remember beefy Wotsits? They were the best. And Bovril flavoured Smiths crips before CJD came out.

FantasticVoyage · 18/09/2011 21:01

YANBU. In a just world, the marketing people at Walkers would all be wheeled out and shot for trying to go against the natural order of things.

The reason that Walkers salt & vinegar crisps are in a green bag started as an April Fools joke on customers years ago - they swapped the packaging of S&V and cheese & onion. And then they decided to stick with it.

CaptainKirksNipples · 18/09/2011 22:26

Really!?! How do you know that?

In other countries isn't Walkers called "Lays"? Regardless they look exactly the same but the cheese and onion is green and the salt and vinegar is blue :) stupid walkers

Tigerinmysoup · 19/09/2011 14:52

Yep - they did it sometime in the 90s. My DH remembers it well as they caught him out at the time (and he still complains now) Grin

They've always been the same colour here in Leicestershire (home of walkers!). It's not something that changed in the 90s.

Give me Tayto crisps any day lol.. oh and I will show my age here, I remember when crisps were 2 1/2 p a packet, and remember buying them, they were golden wonder pickled onion in a see through bag. I can remember being able to buy a bag of crisps, can of coke and 1/2p bubbly for 10p going to school!

Stoirin · 19/09/2011 21:54

Cheese and Onion should be green.

And this should be in Chat.

stepaway we have caramacs everywhere here... yummy!!! Smile

Insomnia11 · 26/09/2011 04:38

Aren't Hula Hoops also made by Walkers? HH have green cheese n onion & blue salt n vinegar.

By the way, why do people say "old" when they mean "grown up/an adult"? I'm 36 and don't plan on being old for another 40 years at least...
