FFS walkers crisps have been around for yeeeeears, so why do I still expect a blue bag of crisps to be salt and vinegar?

I'm 29 but this makes me feel so old! Kids look at me like I'm daft, and also though I have made up opal fruits!!

You still get Golden Wonder crisps here in Scotland.

ItsTimeToBurnThisDiscoDown · 18/09/2011 12:47

I remember those Fry's bars with the different centres, my Nan used to buy me them, haven't had one in years though! I also remember marathons and opal fruits, and also when I used to buy marathons for under 20p after school!

TunaTiebacks · 18/09/2011 13:08

YANBU. Salt and vinegar should clearly be blue. I want to know why I can only find salt and vinegar chipsticks. Nice, but I want the ready salted ones! Where are they?? It's just not on.

PurpleLostPrincess · 18/09/2011 13:10

Always loved Marathons, don't buy Snickers so much these days. Although Star Bars seem to have made a come-back, yummy!! I never understood why they changed Opal Fruits either... Confused. I used to drink lots of Irn Bru, but it's harder to get hold of these days too, despite the come-back a few years ago.

I totally agree, I've never understood why Walkers refused to go along with all the other companies, including own branded crisps!

You can still buy Fry's with the different centres - my favourites are the orange ones, we got a multipack from the Cadbury shop at MacArthur Glen outlet in Bridgend.

KAZAMM · 18/09/2011 13:17

PurpleLostPrincess, where are you living that irn bru is rare? I've never heard that it's the number one drink round where i am Grin

WidowWadman · 18/09/2011 13:30

Blue bag would be much more natural for salt and vinegar, whilst green clearly should belong to cheese and onion.

NB I've only moved to the UK in 2006, so I don't think I've been around when there was a different colour scheme. Was there ever? It just feels wrong wrong wrong

Naoko · 18/09/2011 13:51

I'm from the Netherlands, I expect blue to be paprika and green to be spicy! Took me years to get used to that when I came to the UK. Also I still miss both those flavours, the particular kind of spicy one doesn't exist here and only Lidl has paprika but it isn't as nice :(

stepawayfromtheecclescakes · 18/09/2011 14:04

oooohhh happy that the frys multi flavour are still in circulation, especially as I found caramac recently in our pond shop too!

RantyMcRantpants · 18/09/2011 15:08

Coffee walnut whip

I so miss it :(

Tortington · 18/09/2011 15:10

THIS IS BECUASE WALKERS ARE TWATS. i told them so as i was 'testing' those sunbite crisp for mumsnet. i told em that cheese and onion is green.

i started a facebook page dedicated to it i am so passionate about this crime.

walkers are shit anyway, i don't understand why anyone pays 65-80p for 4 crisp in a bag

TotemPole · 18/09/2011 15:43

Cheese and onion is green and blue is salt and vinegar. Walkers have it wrong.

Opal fruits/starburst, what happened to the yellow ones?

ChooChooWowWow · 18/09/2011 16:28

You are absolutely right. Blue bags should always be salt n vinegar.

RantyMcRantpants · 18/09/2011 17:41

Didn't Walkers buy out Smiths?

BTW those ad's used to freak me out when I was younger, sending young spuds to their deaths so I could enjoy my crisps. Hmm...maybe I just had an overactive imagination.

Andrewofgg · 18/09/2011 17:44

Who else remembers the little blue bag of salt inside the bag of crisps?

Who else remembers fish and chips served in newspaper?

RantyMcRantpants · 18/09/2011 17:45

nope! just owned by the same group which was taken over

siilk · 18/09/2011 17:58

No no no. Salt and vinegar should be purple, salt blue and chicken green ! I have lived in the UK for years and I still think it strange and regularly still pick the wrong flavours! In Australia, as far as I remember, it is still Smiths.

cornsillx · 18/09/2011 17:59

you can still buy salt and shake - I have some in my cupboard.

TadlowDogIncident · 18/09/2011 18:40

YANBU. Salt and vinegar is blue and Walkers are wrong.

I remember salt and shake, and fish and chips wrapped in newspaper. Old gimmer here, though.

Andrewofgg · 18/09/2011 19:11

TadlowDogIncident Welcome to the Old Fart Tendency!

FreudianSlipper · 18/09/2011 19:23

of course green should be cheese and onion just matches the flavour and blue matches salt and vinegar

Fry's five centres was lovely,

i still call h&m hennes and opal fruits will always be opal fruits, i call peanut m&m's treats

cantpooinpeace · 18/09/2011 19:33

If we're talking snacks, you can't beat knobby's nuts :).

Choufleur · 18/09/2011 19:43

You clearly didn't grow up in the midlands. Green is, and always has been, salt and vinegar and blue cheese and onion.

It other non-midland brands that have the colours wrong.

ChablisLover · 18/09/2011 19:45

Forgot all about five centres frys bar.

Blue is salt n vinegar green is cheese and onion. But here in northern Ireland we have yellow cheese and onion from local brand which seems even more reasonable. Still can get golden wonder here too!

CaptainKirksNipples · 18/09/2011 19:49

Also associate chewing gum that is blue with peppermint and green with spearmint? But get totally confused with fresh mint, ice mint and minty blast ones!
