to take 3yo dd to McDonalds?

We were out, in a hurry and with few options available. It was the first time she has ever eaten McDonalds. She wasn't even all that impressed, eating less than half her burger and just one of her fries!

But dh is acting as though I've fed her class A drugs.

I might understand his pov if he was some kind of health freak, but you should see the shut he puts into his own body on a daily basis. Including McDonalds and KFC.

AIBU? Do you give your dc the occasional McDonalds?

sigh... another one that's unarmed.... Hmm

so.. you allow crisps and chocolate?? I would NEVER allow that poison in my child's diet. Grin

ooooh... this is a fun game... Grin

hiss42 is making me laugh Grin

You seem strangely rattled ivykate.Confused (I can't always remember to put DS,DD or DC)

I produce healthy, homecooked food. We rarely have anything processed. DSs take it in as normal from a young age. They cook healthily for themselves now they are older.
What they eat at parties, buy themselves really doesn't matter. Going into MacDonalds on the odd occasion aged 3 yrs doesn't matter.

(If I had £1 for every DC who has a different attitude to food behind a strictly controlling parent's back I would be rich!)

hiccymapops · 18/09/2011 17:14

I need to stop reading this now. Tonights casserole is not appealing to me as much as a big mac right now.

exoticfruits · 18/09/2011 17:17

never assume or put words where they aren't there

I could say the same to you ivykate. We were talking about food. I didn't think that I had to specify that I meant everything in the food line. Confused (I don't mean alcohol either)

BoffinMum · 18/09/2011 17:17

Oh FFS people, MacDonalds take pretty reasonable quality beef and chicken, and wheat flour, and produce standardised products that are easy to cook across the globe with limited equipment by semi-skilled people. It tastes fairly bland, and a lot of fat and salt is used to compensate for the lack of cooking expertise involved in preparing the food, but it's only as bad as birthday cake or a Starbucks Venti with extra things in, or a supermarket curry in the calorie/fat/salt scheme of things. I really think people should stop being so extreme in their positions. If McD's is guilty of anything it's getting small local restaurants closed down because they are in competition with them, but one thing it is certainly not is a type of drug dealer.

exoticfruits · 18/09/2011 17:19

I must leave you-to cook pork, new potatoes, broccoli and carrots.

BoffinMum · 18/09/2011 17:20

That having been said, if you want to deter too many visits to McD's when other more gastronomically favourable options are available, reminding the children they contain bits of pureed bumhole is an excellent linguistic weapon in any parent's arsenal. Wink Grin

Mitmoo You and I have our disagreements but we have a similar sense of humour. Remember how I so nearly caught you in a thread about tuition fees? :o

hiss42 · 18/09/2011 17:36

SHE'S 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MollyTheMole · 18/09/2011 17:38

Hiss you are funny Grin

hiss42 · 18/09/2011 17:46

well why would i go through the time, pain and effort to breastfeed my baby, to a year and a half later take him there? i honestly cant believe the general opinion on here! 3 is still a baby in my eyes and its sad that a mum can't find the time to stick a few grapes in a tub and make a sandwich. I take it even if i don't plan on being out that long.
i'm not saying that you shouldnt eat fastt food if you're an older child or adult making an informed decision, but when you're in charge of making choices on behalf of your children, don't make bad ones.
It's lazy parenting and OP i hope your DH did have a go!

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 18/09/2011 17:48

Well done love , my children are clearly heading to hell in a handcart with me for a parent.

usualsuspect · 18/09/2011 17:51

Its a wonder mine made it to adulthood with a lazyarse like me for a mother

Hey hiss, I ff as well Shock

MollyTheMole · 18/09/2011 17:51

"well why would i go through the time, pain and effort to breastfeed my baby, to a year and a half later take him there?"

You dont have to take your kid to McDelicious's if you dont want Smile. You, me and everyone else on this thread have made or will make FAR worse decisions on behalf of our DCs than taking them for a burger.

domesticdiva · 18/09/2011 17:56

Hiss, you need to get a grip love! We're talking McDonalds, not crack!

Kids will occasionally eat crap, and I think they need to as well. For example, my 2yr old DS discovered he doesn't like the taste of worms today, and after digesting said shocked worm, he probably won't try one again Grin

(Would like to point out, I didn't feed him the worm before SS are called!!! Grin )

backwardpossom · 18/09/2011 17:57

Hiss, I hope you make your own bread, I'd hate to think of all the preservatives, salt and sugar your baby would get from his sandwich if you didn't. I'll assume you do, after all, you wouldn't have gone to the trouble of breastfeeding him for a year and a half if you didn't want to bake your own bread.

pink4ever · 18/09/2011 18:03

hiss all my kids have eaten at devils inn/macd's. My youngest is only 2 and he loves a happy meal-fish fingers or nuggets and chips. Do I think I am a feckless, selfish mother for taking them there once a month?-do I hell dearie!
I cook from scratch every day-the kids eat masses of fruit, most veg and are in no way fussy eaters. Having a macds once a month will not make them obese/unhealthy.
Perhaps when you have grown up a bit you will learn not to sweat the small stuff

A friend of mine makes me howl with laughter. She often smugly states how her children have never been near M's, and will create a fuss over parties. However she happily lets them have chocolate often. McD has more nutrition in than chocolate.

borntoberiled · 18/09/2011 18:06

Poor Hiss's child, only being fed a few grapes in a tub. Must be starving Grin

usualsuspect · 18/09/2011 18:07

Hiss's child will be spending her dinner money on red bull and Mars Bars by the time shes 13

Mitmoo · 18/09/2011 18:13

Oh Jeez I don't know what I should say. I've just got three kids in the lounge eating ice-creams.

They're not even home made.

They're from the ice cream van.

Will their parents even let them come back to my house again.

I am so ashamed.

One has even got a flake in and they've all got sauce on them.

Will I go to mothering hell?

MollyTheMole · 18/09/2011 18:15

only if you sprinkle McNuggets on them aswell Mitmoo...

backwardpossom · 18/09/2011 18:16

I think you should be ok, mitmoo - it's not a McFlurry after all...
