SIL has gotten into the habit of saying "a splash of milk". She never used to say this so I can only assume she's heard it on some cooking program or something and thinks it makes her sound classy. I have tolerated it for a few weeks but I don't think she's going to stop saying it and it's REALLY irritating!!

"Do you mind if I get DS a splash of milk?"
"oo just a splash of milk in mine please!"
"a splash of milk usually sorts out my heart burn".

A splash of milk in tea is just enough.

I say just a dash when people ask me if I want milk in my tea, but would not use it any other time.

Fill a water pistol with milk and every time she says it, squirt her and say "there you go" That should soon stop her...

If she is using those phrases, then she is using the whole splash thing all wrong.

One can have a splash of milk in tea, and just have a not very milky cup of tea. One cannot give ones sil's ds a splash of milk, because the poor child is likley to very dissatified with a dribble of milk in his cup.

Maybe she's been watching proper old adverts for cornflakes. they always used to say 'Kelloggs cornflakes, just a splash of milk...' which is wrong because then they'd just go soggy. But anyway. YANBU.

Start annoying her by referring to a whoosh of olive oil or similar.

She's been watching to many cereal adverts. You need to point this out to her.

First it's the splashes - then it'll be the sprinkle, the pinch, the soupcon (with a cedilla), the scintilla, the suggestion, the dab...

Just thought that if her milk came in splashes then her cheese might come in knobs, and following that logic she probably also 'pops' to the fridge to get the dairy splashes and knobs.
