For wanting to tell SIL to fuck right off with her splashes of milk?

SIL has gotten into the habit of saying "a splash of milk". She never used to say this so I can only assume she's heard it on some cooking program or something and thinks it makes her sound classy. I have tolerated it for a few weeks but I don't think she's going to stop saying it and it's REALLY irritating!!

"Do you mind if I get DS a splash of milk?"
"oo just a splash of milk in mine please!"
"a splash of milk usually sorts out my heart burn".

AIBU to think this is a god awful phrase??

are you due on? :)

AmazingBouncingFerret · 15/09/2011 17:06

That made me snort a splash of milk all over my keyboard...

Paschaelina · 15/09/2011 17:07

A splash of milk in tea is just enough. Smile

ExitPursuedByaBear · 15/09/2011 17:08

I say just a dash when people ask me if I want milk in my tea, but would not use it any other time.

PuspornInBoots · 15/09/2011 17:08

Fill a water pistol with milk and every time she says it, squirt her and say "there you go" That should soon stop her...

slavetofilofax · 15/09/2011 17:09

If she is using those phrases, then she is using the whole splash thing all wrong.

Yanbu to be irritated at her use of a silly phrase, and yanbu even more when she uses it incorrectly.

One can have a splash of milk in tea, and just have a not very milky cup of tea. One cannot give ones sil's ds a splash of milk, because the poor child is likley to very dissatified with a dribble of milk in his cup.

You can tell her that from me. Smile

Ormirian · 15/09/2011 17:09

Of course YANBU. Get her to specify the exact amount. 3.78ml for example.

I think you are being a little silly.

picnicbasketcase · 15/09/2011 17:10

Maybe she's been watching proper old adverts for cornflakes. they always used to say 'Kelloggs cornflakes, just a splash of milk...' which is wrong because then they'd just go soggy. But anyway. YANBU.

Start annoying her by referring to a whoosh of olive oil or similar.

LynetteScavo · 15/09/2011 17:10

She's been watching to many cereal adverts. You need to point this out to her.

StickyBlisteredShitHole · 15/09/2011 17:13

She sounds like a twat.

TalcAndTurnips · 15/09/2011 17:44

First it's the splashes - then it'll be the sprinkle, the pinch, the soupcon (with a cedilla), the scintilla, the suggestion, the dab...

...by which point you'll have SIL on the floor slowly battering her teacup into her mush with a tenderising mallet.

Sticky - loving the name; what was your inspiration? It's pure Tennyson!

Tchootnika · 15/09/2011 17:52

... and you've got into the habit of saying "gotten".
pot/kettle/black, Skelator?
(Or are you American, in which case 'gotten' is unfortunately excusable).

MrsBuntysStrangeCuldeSac · 15/09/2011 17:57

Does she also ask for a "knob of cheese"?
Does she 'pop' everywhere?

Tchootnika · 15/09/2011 17:58

'Hunk of bread'?

TalcAndTurnips · 15/09/2011 17:59

Knob cheese? Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwww.

MrsBuntysStrangeCuldeSac · 15/09/2011 18:02

Just thought that if her milk came in splashes then her cheese might come in knobs, and following that logic she probably also 'pops' to the fridge to get the dairy splashes and knobs.

EricNorthmansMistress · 15/09/2011 20:54

YANBU
That's terrible.

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 15/09/2011 20:57

Arf at knob cheese

picnicbasketcase · 15/09/2011 21:02

Just remembered a worse one - people who 'bang' or slam' something in the oven.

Angry
aldiwhore · 15/09/2011 21:03

Does she also say 'Oh my giddy aunt'?

LemonDifficult · 15/09/2011 21:04

YANBU.

ShowOfHands · 15/09/2011 21:05

aaaaaarrrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh

CeeYouNextTuesday · 15/09/2011 21:06

It's bloody irritating! YANBU! DP does it a lot. Drink some plonk, go see the quack... It drives me dappy! [ confused]

picnicbasketcase · 15/09/2011 21:07

I wouldn't be able to stop myself from either visibly wincing or repeating it to take the piss. Is a morsel metric or imperial?
