by Top Shop

For anyone who can't follow the link, or would rather not give the traffic and just believe instead, it's a tshirt that reads 'Nice New Girlfriend. What breed is she?'

OP posts:
PamBeesly · 14/09/2011 15:32

Minimischief this is way beyond humourous. Its so degrading to women, not to mention the other vile t-shirt on sale

Andrewofgg · 14/09/2011 16:19

Not something I would wear even if I was of the age as well as the gender they were aimed at.

OP they've been withdrawn from sale, probably takes a bit longer to get them taken off their website. I'd call that a result. You won't get a company like that to apologise and you can't stop anyone loathsome enough to wear one he has already bought from doing so.

A1980 · 14/09/2011 16:45

The t-shirt is sold out Grin

Unbeleiveable.

Andrewofgg · 14/09/2011 16:46

Not really, there's plenty of prats around and who know how many there were on the shelves to begin with.

Or perhaps TopMan prefer to say sold out to We fucked up by every selling it.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 14/09/2011 16:48

I'm amazed Top Shop are selling that!!!!!

Anyway, if he does have a new girlfriend, once he puts that top on I suspect she will be running for the hills!!!

I am very broad minded but even I think that is really distasteful, disrespectful and just yuck!

hiddenhome · 14/09/2011 16:52

Actually, it's a bit stupid, because the way it's worded, it makes the guy look like he prefers dogs to women Grin

(just lift the tail outta the way Wink)

AliceWyrld · 14/09/2011 19:00

Well that was quick. Grin

Re the 'all publicity is good publicity' blah that gets wheeled out every time, really? Hmm Really?? Hmm I don't know how others decide where to buy things, but that really doesn't fit with my model, and I'm sure I can't be alone. It's meaningless.

"Re the 'all publicity is good publicity' blah that gets wheeled out every time, really?"

How about, bad publicity from a website aimed at mums = good publicity for their actual target market? Which is basically the deal here.

"OP they've been withdrawn from sale, probably takes a bit longer to get them taken off their website."

No way. Removing an item from an online store can be done quickly. Removing an item from sale in stores takes longer.

Andrewofgg · 14/09/2011 19:16

It depends whether the IT department is more efficient than the store management chain or vice versa - but if they are still on the website but not actually there to buy the result is achieved.

AliceWyrld · 14/09/2011 19:18

Widespread bad publicity, it's not just here. Here for example. And I have seen continual web traffic about it all day. And I think more of their target market than that they would all not be bothered tbh. I don't think the target market of Topshop/man is solely men-who-wear-offensive-tshirts. The 'no publicity is bad publicity' comments is wheeled out continually, and it makes no sense. Gerald Ratner anyone? I have many places I will never shop in due to their bad publicity, and I can't believe I am unique.

For every retweet/blog post/article on this that we read and shake our heads at, there will be some thick man saying "Heh, that t-shirt was FUNNY!" and scratching his balls. And he will doubtless think it was even funnier/more desirable because a whole load of people have got their knickers in a twist about it.

SarahStratton · 15/09/2011 10:47

I like tshirts like this. It's like an Early Warning system for avoiding cunts.

CurrySpice · 15/09/2011 10:54

It's just indescribably crass and unfunny isn't it? I despair sometimes, I really do

lolaflores · 15/09/2011 11:03

I think this works on both edges, mysogonist (errr you know what i mean) and racist. Should we as a force for good and equality put in a call to the lovely folk at Topshop.

I do get the feeling that this generation of girls i.e. my 18 year old daughter, have to put up with open shite from little dicks. To retaliate is not cool. So leave it to their battle hardened mothers.

TobyLeWolef · 15/09/2011 11:20

The comments under this article about it absolutely prove my point from 10:41:50.

TheBride · 15/09/2011 11:43

God, I've got to stop reading the comments after news articles. It's seriously bad for my blood pressure, and there are some real gems here.

TheBride · 15/09/2011 11:49

This is the best one

"I'm female & i thought they were funny but there again i do have a sense of HUMOUR !!!
I wear a t-shirt that says " Men have feelings too.....but who cares !!" all my male friends like it but is because they just like reading it cause it's across my breasts who cares i don't !!!!"

amess · 15/09/2011 11:50

Clothing like this is always a good indicator of who to avoid. Not just the wearer but often those around the wearer too and the shop that thinks it is what the public want to see and will just think it's funny. I would like the shop to tell us if the buyer was male or female and if they have kept on that persons attitude to their colleagues.

lolaflores · 15/09/2011 12:42

May I ask....if the words were racist, Not sexist, would Topshop even attempt to put them in shops? Would people see them as fall down funny then? Why is this casual anti-female rehtoric tolerated.

And i do realise that my spelling is all over the place. Do forgive me dear posters.

HereBeBolloX · 15/09/2011 22:40

Is it actually legal to walk around with "just bend down and suck it" written across your chest?

children can read that. I wouldn't fancy trying to explain to my 9 year old dd why that t shirt says that. (Am racking my brains for a passable explanation in case random morons round my way have bought one.)

I would have thought the police might have grounds to arrest someone wearing a very legible slogan like that.

TobyLeWolef · 16/09/2011 09:45

Arrest them? Really?

Hmm
Whatmeworry · 16/09/2011 09:52

I like the idea of these T shirts as Idiot Identification Devices. The domestic violence one has been pulled now, that clearly went too far - but for the breed are you one I'm one of the "if you don't like it, don't buy it" crew.

I'll make the decision of what offends me, thank you.

mumeeee · 16/09/2011 10:16

Topshop has now removed these T.shirts from their shops along with another one that was deemed offensive.

HereBeBolloX · 18/09/2011 18:17

You'd be amazed by what the police can arrest you for, if they want to Toby.

All sorts of obscure little rules.

Saying "fuck" in public, for instance. Technically htey can arrest you for it. They rarely do, unless they don't like the look of you anyway. There are laws about public decency, which the police can invoke if they want.

rhondajean · 18/09/2011 18:37

I cant see the shirts cos theyre gone now from the website - but this reminds me of the Darwin Awards - surely this type of t shirt is a classic example of the erm "less able" removing themselves from the gene pool??

Tee hee.
