To leave this sentence in my son's homework

"I hate my mother"

A sentence using mother and underlining the noun and verb etc.

To represent the family stress that is caused by all this bloody homework.

Yes, he hates me as Im making him do such a shitload of homework each weekend!

or will they call SS?

It's not you that's making him do the homework, it's the school, I think leaving the sentence in would open a can of worms. Surely there is another sentence he could use?

YANBU, assuming that he wrote it and it wasn't your idea . It's his homework, after all.

He wrote it, behind his hand , while I supervised. Its is a rubbish sentence anyway, they require more than that. I might made him expand.

YANBU - I think I'd leave it in but stick a post-it note on that page in his homework explaining why he 'hates' you (which I'm sure he really doesn't) and if there was some way to cut down a bit as it's clearly causeing more problems than it's worth really.

Why are you standing at his shoulder watching everything he does while he does homework? Leave him to get on with it himself. It's his homework not yours...

Check it over once it is done (if you really have too). Sign the book saying he's done it and leave it at that.

6! Poor creature! Definitely talk to the teachers about the workload. He needs to play, it's a long old school week for the little ones.

I don't think they'll take his sentence to heart btw!

I dont know what system you have gillybean but we have assisted homework and there is no "book" to sign. My 6 year old does have to be encouraged to do his homework and isnt able to crack on without support and encouragement. (and this is a child who got 2 a's in his year 1 report)

How much homework is he getting? Personally I don't think he should be getting any but reading in year 2.

It wouldnt be so bad, but I work and get home at 6. He has dinner, bath and is in bed for 7-7.30 so its only the weekend for the homework.

I'd go in and talk to the teacher, ask her what a reasonable amount of time to spend on homework is and do a time-limited amount.
Some children can write 10 sentences in half an hour without stress, others can't. If that's not helpful, use the dreaded differentiation question.
If he got a 2a for writing, he should be able to manage this though.
Have you considered more fun ways of constructing a sentence for him to write?

Poor kid!! Leave the sentence there, and when you get a call of concern from the teacher say 'Yes, he hates me because I make him do too much homework' Seeing as your DS is only 6, he will link this time to you rather than school - he doesn't hate you. Bless him!

Poor you aswel, having to make your SIX year old son do the homework, that is just too much

God, thats a lot for year 2 isnt it???!!!! Agree with seeker

My ds1 is in year 4 and gets numeracy, literacy and topic (1 small task each) and then spellings and reading (which we do each evening).

(and it can be hard sometimes to get him to do that!!)

I'd let the sentence go. And I'd let him turn up at school with only 4 or 5 sentences completed rather than the 10 requested. Then it'll be the teacher saying that he should do better rather than you.... and it'll be 'I hate my teacher' next time.

He is great at constructig verbally, its the discipline of writing he hates....and most especially during home time!

I agree that 10 sentences plus all the maths is a lot, too much.
But if the school aren't flexible on this, and you have read their homework policy to look for ammunition and found none, you may have to think of alternatives.

If he can say the sentence, you can write it and he can copy it. That's easier than having to remember what he's said whilst writing.

no wonder he don't want to do his homework, thats alot of homework for a 6 year old.

i struggle to get DS ( aged 5 1/2) to do his word box and thats only reading 8 words
