Here
Was buying wellies for DS in Brantano today, and those hideous shoes caught my eye. I asked the duty manager if they were dressing up shoes as I had assumed, she replied 'No. They are for general wear.' She also mentioned that this style was extremely popular.
My DD is only 6m, so this kind of thing doesn't really affect me yet, but surely shoes like this worn regularly would damage a childs feet?
I also think that they are highly inappropriate for small children (available from kids size 9) as high heels are seen as 'sexy' shoes by many people.
I do NOT think that high heels for children neccessarily encourage inappropriate behaviour, but surely Mumsnets' campaign 'Let Girls Be Girls' is against this?
I am quite prepared to be flamed and told that it's none of my business, but if you feel the same, let Brantano know.

Thanks so much for that Lynette, I now have to scrube out my eyes with vinegar.

Yeesh.

Not a specically judgemental yeesh.

just a yeesh.

LOL at people who think that anyone who thinks these shoes are crap, has a dull drab life and dull drab shoes. As it happens, I don't have any pink glittery ones, but I do have a pair of pink and gold ones, does that count?

Pagwatch I just want to apologise for upsetting you by using that term, I admit I was deliberately being provocative but you're right, it's trivialising it - maybe "priming" might be better (but that sounds like DIY) or "preparing" or something like that. I agree normalising doesn't really cover it, because women wearing high heels is already normalised.

I also think it's interesting that people immediately assume that if you don't like these shoes and think they're preparing little girls for entry to the constructed femininity that we're all supposed to embrace enthusiastically, that means that you want to tell other women not to wear high heels. I don't care what other women wear, wear what you like, pink glittery shoes with Bratz logos on them too, if you think it looks good,. (Though if you do, may I point you in the direction of the Style and Beauty boards as they may be able to help you...)

Pagwatch · 11/09/2011 15:17

Thanks HereBeBollox

I appreciate that enormously

SoupDragon · 11/09/2011 15:17

The Kids 2-3 size is misleading... They don't mean infant sizes at all. I actually snorted out loud when the picture loaded. :o DD would love them. She will not be getting or even seeing a pair!

Peachy · 11/09/2011 15:18

I have a pair of slingback satin heeled turquoise glitetred winkel picker toed shoes

Mine. A grown up who can decide whether to screw up on her own feet and assess what message she is giving people about herself.

And no I have never got drunk and sat with my feet up on a table just to show off my shoeds (which cost £2.50 on ebay unworn). Not at all Blush.

Peachy · 11/09/2011 15:19

2 - 3 is the sizes of my boys; theya re tiny so neglecting the boy factor I suspect we are talking late primary / early comp ages.

SnapesMistress · 11/09/2011 15:26

Having sparkely tacky shit is part of what makes being a child great. Better than teetering around in Mums massive shoes which is what I used to do and would have been quite dangerous from being a trip hazard.

As an adult with taste I would be tempted to turn my nose up at them if a DD wanted them but I think that would make me a massive sourpuss.

elphabadefiesgravity · 11/09/2011 16:45

DD is 10 and a size 12 and a half. I'd say they are aimed at age 7-11 years. I don;t like them but they are not that bad.

festi · 11/09/2011 16:52

wow my dd is 5 and 12.5. I thought that was pretty average

dementedma · 11/09/2011 20:39

applauds rowena
there is time enough for rules and regultions.

Icelollycraving · 11/09/2011 23:03

Get a grip! These shoes wouldn't be stocked for long if they didn't sell. They are not exactly high heeled stilettos, they look like the kind of shoes mums hate & little girls love.
Yabu to expect people to write to a company for selling something that you don't agree with. We aren't talking thongs for babies (the most grim thing I could think of!). These shoes no doubt appeal to the demographic of this particular store.

Crazybit · 11/09/2011 23:21

DD2 nearly 4 would love these so much, but she wouldn't be allowed out of the house in them unless it was a dress up party where they would probably be taken off upon arrival. DD1-11 would not be seen dead in them from around the age of 6.

I think they're cute for dressing up in.

madmomma · 12/09/2011 00:45

They're vile, but God I would have died and gone to heaven if I'd have been bought these as a child. My Mum was a killjoy ardent feminist and I was dying to get dressed up in stuff like this!

I agree we shouldn't be teaching 9 year olds to damage their legs feet and backs even for the very important reason of being "pretty"

delphinedownunder · 12/09/2011 02:07

My daughter would give her right arm for these. Not that she's having any. I'd get them for her if i saw them at a boot sale though!

MrsFruitcake · 12/09/2011 06:43

My 7 year old DD always asks for those (or some like it) whenever we go to Brantano. I've had at least 3 convos with her which end with her crying because I won't let her have them.

They are hideous, bad for feet and a waste of money. She can wear cheap shoes when she can pay for them herself, until then, its sensible shoes all the way.

porcamiseria · 12/09/2011 09:36

YABU

they are dressing up shoes, not school shoes

maybe direct your enrgies on something more IMPORTANT!!!!!

Skippyboo · 12/09/2011 09:48

My 6 year old daughter would die/kill/both for those shoes! Pink. Sparkly. What's not to like when you're 6?

smartyparts · 12/09/2011 09:51

Wow - they're hideous. Am thanking God for having only boys!

RoundOrangeHead · 12/09/2011 09:55

you think they are bad, look at these beauts that we spotted in the Disney Store at the weekend

GloriaVanderbilt · 12/09/2011 09:57

I like them Blush but strictly for parties or mucking about...not walking anywhere in.

I think parental control comes into this
but they are v v expensive for a party.

OhdearNigel · 12/09/2011 10:02

I quite like them. I would buy them for DD when she gets a bit older.

sjuperwolef · 12/09/2011 10:05

bhs have black patent heels for kids - sized to fit my 6 yr old - that are much worse than them op.

i hate heels for kids and wouldnt buy them but if i had to it'd be the pretty sparkly fairy princess ones over the shiny black prostitute shoes.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 12/09/2011 10:05

I see where HerBe is coming from, however MULLYPEEP has it bang on when she says that it's the every day people around children who will inspire them. I'm not threatened by a bit of glitter, either.
