Here
Was buying wellies for DS in Brantano today, and those hideous shoes caught my eye. I asked the duty manager if they were dressing up shoes as I had assumed, she replied 'No. They are for general wear.' She also mentioned that this style was extremely popular.
My DD is only 6m, so this kind of thing doesn't really affect me yet, but surely shoes like this worn regularly would damage a childs feet?
I also think that they are highly inappropriate for small children (available from kids size 9) as high heels are seen as 'sexy' shoes by many people.
I do NOT think that high heels for children neccessarily encourage inappropriate behaviour, but surely Mumsnets' campaign 'Let Girls Be Girls' is against this?
I am quite prepared to be flamed and told that it's none of my business, but if you feel the same, let Brantano know.

Am with Piglet! Just wait until you hit Lelli Fucking Kellies, those will seem like a cheap old dream!

LynetteScavo · 10/09/2011 20:46

www.brantano.co.uk/Shop/brantano_uk/Kids/Children%20Girls/Flower%20Girls/2208203211.aspx?category=0302155 I hate shoes like this...especially when girls wear socks with them.

You're all right - I am over-reacting (think the sparkly reflections did it). I googled Lelli Kellys - wtf? They are bloody horrid!!
I think I just dont like heels on kids.

They are clearly party shoes. I doubt that any little girl who owns them doesn't also have at least one pair of day shoes. It really pisses me off that anything which a certain segment of girls/women are drawn to is seen as sexy/inappropriate/slutty. Why is a moral judgement being passed on little kids who like a bit of bling? Little boys aren't judged if they want to wear a t-shirt that a teenage boy could wear rather than one with a picture of a dinosaur on.

ginmakesitallok · 10/09/2011 20:58

there are plenty of crap shoes around for kids. It's not the retailers fault that parents buy them for their kids.

CoffeeIsMyFriend · 10/09/2011 21:05

I wont be complaining to Brantano either. Get a grip, they are party shoes for girls aged approx 7-11.

My DD had a pair, she wore them on average 10 times in total - dressing up, parties. No way would she wear them day to day and definitely NOT to school.

scottishmummy · 10/09/2011 21:07

ugly in a lelli kelly way,not worth complaining about though
as sad thing is some parents buy that glittery
shit

Sirzy · 10/09/2011 21:09

like others have said they are party shoes, fine for one off wear if thats what they/the parents like.

That said, I am thankful I have a son as I wont be pestered to buy such horrid shoes!! (although I am sure it will balance out with something else!)

festi · 10/09/2011 21:15

they are ok, I wouldnt buy them for my dd granted, but, if you dont like them dont buy them. I hate these threads that ask people to write to companies about clothes, if you want to, do it but dont ask a million other people to.

I think lynnetescavos link is far worse, and yy why do they always get worn down the park, on a bike with a pair graying white ankle socks.

Peachy · 10/09/2011 21:16

I think about 20% of ds2's class (year 6) wear what I would term as high heels, maybe 2inches or more.

Not only is it sad for their feet, I wore them from about 13 as I was a little short (not any more actually) and ended up with horrible feet, it prevents them running and just being kids. Mind ds1's end of Primary pic was taken in non school uniform and the girl in the centre is wearing hot pants, a fake tan and heels so it's a good job I have only boys as I am clearly out of date.

Girld at Juniors sports day comparing fake tans also seemed very sad to me.

DoMeDon · 10/09/2011 21:19

I would be more likey to complain about the ones lynette linked above. They are WRONG for DC.

The ones in OP are sparly party shoes - naff but not offensive.

dementedma · 10/09/2011 21:19

just wait until your baby is old enough to want a pair of these Grin
they're fine for parties and fun - put 6 inch heels on them and DD2 (aged 18) would probably be begging for a pair .

cantpooinpeace · 10/09/2011 21:20

My daughter would love those for dressing up!

Meh, party shoes innit ? We can't suck all of the tacky fun out of childhood.

MrsGerardButler · 10/09/2011 21:30

Get a grip OP. My friend bought these for my DD and she adored them. Wore them to parties and special days out. When I read your OP, I thought you meant something like these

ChillyCooper · 10/09/2011 21:31

The Lelli Kelli patent heeled boots for little girls are faaar worse (and cost more than I'd pay for my shoes) EWW

PootlePosyPerkin · 10/09/2011 21:39

My friend's daughter has a similar pair - for parties & "special occasions". I don't like them for everyday wear but I really don't think that's what they're intended for.

PootlePosyPerkin · 10/09/2011 21:41

Chilly - Ooo, lovely. Little hooker boots! Confused.

festi · 10/09/2011 22:02

I love those heels MrsGerard but for kids Shock, I want a pair Blush, they would look so lovely with a vintage tailored dress.

BatsUpMeNightie · 10/09/2011 22:09

I despair, really I do. Whatever makes you assume, OP, that a bunch of people about whom you know next to bugger all, are going to drop everything and complain to a downmarket retailer about a pair of spangly shoes? Maybe some people like them? I think they're hideous but I'll defend to the death anyone else's right to either like them or not give a shiney shite about them!

scottishmummy · 10/09/2011 22:11

lelli kelly are my little ho shoes

psiloveyou · 10/09/2011 22:11

I've seen worse. I think most parents would realise they are just dress up / party wear.

My girls would kill for those.

Kladdkaka · 10/09/2011 22:13

I want some, but they don't do my size. :(
