To think that people who choose to drive a sports car are...

...just big ol' attention seekers.

'Ooo ooo look at meeee - NO! You must look '

Not that I think there's anything wrong with seeking attention if you need it

YABU. Wtf is it to do with you?

ScaredyDog · 09/09/2011 22:25

YABU

My mum drives an old MG. That's because it's littler than their other cars (ooooh, they must be posh - they're not really, just work hard and have an SLK and a workhorse 4x4) and as she's only just been able to drive again after having a seizure a year ago she's not very confident of driving a big car.

They've had the MG for 10 years+, it's a fun run around.

If people have earned their money and chosen to spend it on a sports car, let them enjoy it. In my mum's case, she's really enjoying being able to drive again, thank god.

PatriciaHolm · 09/09/2011 22:26

Unlike, of course, those who start threads on forums read by millions, who clearly aren't looking for attention, oh no, not at all.

Getorf

I hope you didn't really do a weee round roundabouts. Now some road humps, there's a thing.

ScaredyDog · 09/09/2011 22:28

And to echo purplepdjin, wtf is it to do with you? :)

FabbyChic · 09/09/2011 22:28

I always wanted an Audi TT, and not because I want a cock, but because I like the shape.

HeyYouJimmy · 09/09/2011 22:29

YANBU. I have honestly never come across a sports car which made me want it. I'd rather have a good ole sturdy Lada as they would start first time in icy weather 99% of the time.

My friend had one and it started every time in freezing conditions, and most of the other folk he worked with had to have their cars towed home by him during the snowy, icy weather because their cars wouldn't start.

mumsamilitant · 09/09/2011 22:30

I'd LOVE a merc sports! Old men driving sports cars - now thats a different matter entirely, which leads me on to the fact that....

When I was in my teen my father had a mid life crisis bought a small white sports car. We once stopped off at one of those happy eater things on the way to my uncles. I felt the need to practically shout say dad at the beginning, middle and end of EVERY sentence. Oh the sheer shame of it. Just in case they thought I was his floozy!

AgentZigzag · 09/09/2011 22:30

Yes, thanks Ohno, desperate was the word I was looking for Grin

I love the image of DBF cruising/posing in her top of the range car with the dogs sat nicely in a row on the back seat Grin

DH is a total petrol head, but I don't drive and switch off as soon as he starts raving about them have zero interest in cars, so I'm coming at this totally from an outsiders POV.

He assures me the handling, performance and acceleration are above what you'd get from a family car, but when I see a sports car sat in the traffic I can't help but think the driver looks a twat letting everyone know they're going through some sort of midlife crisis Grin

It's what they're trying to say about themselves to the world when they buy it.

Apart from all the lovely posters who have them on here and whose sports cars just accentuated the their fantastic personalities Grin

Lots of flame deflecting Grins in that post Grin just for luck Grin arrrgghh in a Grin loop...

FantasticVoyage · 09/09/2011 22:32

A mid-life crisismobile is a lot cheaper than a divorce.

AgentZigzag · 09/09/2011 22:33

It's everything to do with me, I'm a member of the judging public.

AgentZigzag · 09/09/2011 22:36

That's weird you should mention Ladas Jim, because I was just thinking a couple of hours ago about the shame I didn't feel about the bright orange Lada my parents had.

It was truly shocking.

But easy to spot coming up the road, giving enough time to dock out the crafty fag I had on the go Wink

Ooh, you'd hate DH when he's driving my MX5; he has a pony tail. And yes, it's grey. Grin

wicketkeeper · 09/09/2011 23:00

Yes, I got my first MX5 in my early 40's. Totally loved it and when the time came I chopped it in for another one. Yes, that was my mid-life crisis. I am now over it. So, of course, I drive a Jaguar.

IwanttobeShirleyValentine · 09/09/2011 23:05

Its men in them that makes me want to scream out

"Whos got a tiny todge?"

They really are penis extensions imo!

notlettingthefearshow · 09/09/2011 23:05

They are flashy but can look so stylish and beautiful. Plus people say they are a dream to drive.

Not my personal taste (I'm a little heavy handed with cars and can't be trusted with anything new and shiny) but I wouldn't judge anyone for buying one. Surely better than those hideous 4 by 4s the size of a house!!!

Hippee · 09/09/2011 23:23

Trillian - you don't live in Harrogate do you? If so, I think I pranged your neighbour's Porsche Blush

DogsBestFriend · 09/09/2011 23:31

DirtyDessert has me dreaming now.

When I was in my early 20s I had the chance of a red E-Type roadster for 8K, about the going rate then, just before prices went through the roof. I decided against it, as a very young Londoner with no off road parking, HUGE insurance because I worked in the motor trade and, because of working place and hours (and a liking for a Scotch and American at the end of a long day!). I'd have got so little chance to drive it.

A year or two later I think that they were selling for 5 times that amount! :(

pippala · 09/09/2011 23:36

OOOHHHH!
I drive an audi TT, Am in my 40's but no it's not a midlife crisis I have ALWAYS loved soft tops but had four kids!!
Now they are not little my hubby bought me the TT for me to fun in! I still have a little corsa runaround for Mums taxi.
if i am just taking/picking up one they alays say bring the TT
It looks so shiny and new although 6 yrs old, 0-60 in 5secs, holds all corners so well, never skids or slides even on ice and yes I feel like a princess driving it.
I am an attention seeker? I bought it for me not to show off, LOL!!!

Glitterandglue · 09/09/2011 23:38

Yes. If you think you can judge the motivations of an entire group of people in one go, yes, YABU.

But let's assume, for the sake of argument, that you are being facetious, because it depresses me to think that people actually think like this. Even though I know some of them do (the ones that tell me I have a mohawk because I want people to look at me). In which case, le shrug.

If you're not...then I would like to inform you that your assumptions are incorrect. (Really, really hope you already know that.)

AgentZigzag · 09/09/2011 23:38

You're one of the few exception to the rule pippala Grin

AgentZigzag · 09/09/2011 23:41

'Yes. If you think you can judge the motivations of an entire group of people in one go, yes, YABU.'

Aw Sad

I'd judge your mohawk favourably if that makes any difference?

OP posts:
Glitterandglue · 09/09/2011 23:43

Sadly not! Positive discrimination is still discrimination. (Ooh, don't get me started on that one.) But now you know, so you can be all non-judgemental and all, right? Smile
