To have been slightly disgusted by this?

I was waiting in a till queue today in a department store. Someone in the queue has a baby in a buggy and she looks about 13-14 months.

Her mum is feeding her a chicken nuggets Happy Meal from McDonalds. Don't really have a problem with the odd mcdonalds for children as it's not that unhealthy calorie wise and as long as it's only once in a while. I did think it a bit gross that she was feeding her while in a shop queue for the tills though. Although the child was old enough to chew some solid food, the mum wasn't giving it straight to her. She chewed up the fries and pieces of nugget in her mouth first, spat it out into her hand and then fed it to the child.

Is this normal? Please feel free to enlighten me as I don't yet have children. I felt slightly sick watching it! The till operater didn't look too impressed when she served her and took cash from the hands she spat food into to.

I was reading this quite happily - thinking, "Well, other animals regurgitate for their young so chewing a bit then handing over doesn't seem too gross".

Then I read the snot bit and now I have a disgusting mental image and also that thread a few days ago about picking noses and eating the bogeys came back into my head!

So thanks for that folks ... Shock[retch]

My mum as well almost all the other women in my family are 'snot sucking African women'.

I probably will be too. It used to bug me but when you see your baby clogged up like that you just want them to be able to breathe well and not be so distressed.

I will use the same method and as it is my baby, I wouldn't find it gross. FGS people do things like suck each others genitalia for enjoyment, it is hardly so disgusting to clean your own child's nose with your mouth.

So what do snot-suckers do: Spit or swallow.

Fuck, that is so disgusting

troisgarcons · 07/09/2011 22:48

Yeah but no but - genitals are nicely showered and smelling nice - not nasty germ laiden ikkies Grin

spudulika · 07/09/2011 22:52

"So what do snot-suckers do: Spit or swallow.

I've always cleaned my babies noses this way.

fwiw, it's no more disgusting than getting a mouthful of spunk. Actually much less so, because it comes out of a cute little nose, attached to an adorable baby, instead of from a possibly stinky willy, attached to a sweaty man, and usually garnished with a couple of pubic hairs to boot.

spudulika · 07/09/2011 22:53

And what the mum was doing was no different from 'kiss feeding'.

Let's just hope she didn't have gum disease.....

winnybella · 07/09/2011 22:55

No, no, no. It's gross. There is an implement that's like a long pipe and you suck baby's snot out but it ends up in a little compartment-same principle, very effective, but you don't end up with snot in your mouth.

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 07/09/2011 22:56

spudulika Grin good point!

RedOnion · 07/09/2011 22:57

Oh my god, I cannot believe people are condoning sucking snot out of a kids nose.

RedOnion · 07/09/2011 22:58

and then comparing it to oral sex between two consenting adults!! What the actual fuck!

I don't know about the nicely cleaned genitalia, smegma is apparently a very real thing:

Look at your own peril

winnybella · 07/09/2011 23:01

No way I'm looking at that link.

Tbh I have never encountered a man with smegma- if they wash themselves, there isn't any Confused

Snot in mouth, though...

winnybella · 07/09/2011 23:03

suction device

Have a look, LDNmummy.

A1980 · 07/09/2011 23:03

slight swinging between the urge to vomit and the urge to howl with laughter...then I looked at that link and the urge to vomit fought back...closely followwd by the urge to pour another pinot grigio and refresh the screen...

fourkids · 07/09/2011 23:08

LDNmummy, how come you knew that pic was there??

LDNmummy · 07/09/2011 23:10

I know about suction devices, but the women in my family don't find them anywhere near as effective as using their own mouths, which is also much more pleasant an experience for the baby than a cold instrument being shoved in their nasal cavity.

fourkids · 07/09/2011 23:13

Trying not to think about the snot-sucking...concentrating in the smeggy willy?

LDNmummy · 07/09/2011 23:14

Ah fourkids, I was more surprised at the lack of smegma pics I could source.

Just kidding, all nicely groomed and thoroughly washed in this household. I just used the wonder that is google.

winnybella · 07/09/2011 23:14

You don't need to shove it. The end is usually rubber, not stainless steel and so it's not cold. And it is very effective, way better than the bulb ones. Perhaps not as effective as your mouth, I've no clue.

Whatever floats your boat. Do you intend on doing it in public, though?
