and be irritated by it? I have plenty of friends who do it...I love them, but I do judge them slightly for it.

i tend to luff a lot now.. and things are luffly .. ive picked that up from someone here

TheControversialJessie · 07/09/2011 17:37

In the old days, people typed on MN, sitting at a desk, and put more thought into it. You need to sit with proper posture to post intellectually rigorous posts.

Now, we have all these posts written by users lolling on the settee with their iPhone. I'm very against this typing while lolling. It's disrespectful.

LadyBeagleEyes · 07/09/2011 17:38

I ...s and creepy wee brackets.

Whatmeworry · 07/09/2011 17:39

Thank you saycool, I shall store that nugget and impress someone with it at some point Grin

I do like the look of ROFL on the page. It looks friendly and ruffly. I wouldn't use it though...

Whatmeworry · 07/09/2011 17:43

What I want is an "Irony Indication" mark, to show the more blinkered literal minded that there is in fact a sleight of mind going on...

SayCoolNowSayWhip · 07/09/2011 17:44

If I ever get a dog I shall call it ROFL.

TobyLeWolef · 07/09/2011 17:46

lollercoaster

fatlazymummy · 07/09/2011 17:59

I like reading and using lol. As long as it's not against the actual rules of the site then people can use it as much as they like. If some posters get irritated by it then tough titty really.
The only thing wrong with using the smileys [which I do a lot on other forums] is that you actually have to type them out, instead of just clicking onto the icon.

SayCoolNowSayWhip · 07/09/2011 18:09

Just getting lolled up to go out

Proudnscary · 07/09/2011 19:10

I feel quite snooty towards the use of lol - and I make no apology for that

MangoMonster · 07/09/2011 20:02

What is wrong with "lol". How else would you express it succinctly. I think it's a compliment!

SayCoolNowSayWhip · 07/09/2011 21:31

It just annoys me intensely when, as mentioned upthread, people stick it in all the time, e.g. 'I went for a walk lol and then ate a sandwich lmao' Angry

If something amuses me I might say, That's funny! Or ha ha. Rarely do I actually laugh out loud online.

Pocketsocks · 07/09/2011 21:34

I try not to use it on here as I imagine far too many people rolling their eyes at me, however I have been known to use it a lot online, because I see it as a way to express a lighthearted tone. Its far too easy in typing to mistake the tone of a post and considering I spend half my time being sarcastic and tounge in cheek I've found it keeps me out of trouble. I don't entirly understand the irritation but I suppose it can be over used.
