School has begun again and it is like winter outside today ....summer has gone.

So I would like to ask your morning [before school] routine.

Mine is as follows.

7am get up wash and dressed........son is doing the same.

7.20am feed and take dog out.

7.40am arrive home son has made and is eating his breakfast [he is 9]

7.45 eat breakfast and surf the internet, watch news or read.

8.25 son checks bag and gets dressed.

8.35 we leave.

6.15 = alarm (DH and i have a 15 minute snuggle - if he's in the country)
6.30 = DH showers and I feed cats, put in a load of washing and make tea for me and DH.
6.30 - wake up dd
6.45 I shower and get dressed
7.00 quick breakfast with dd
7.15 Call DS and leave to drop dd at school bus stop for 7.30 pick-up
7.30 = second call for DS (DH leaves between 7.20 and and 7.30)
unload dishwasher and reload, tidy kitchen and family room.
7.40 (ish) = rant at DS if not up (usually a rant)
tidy up my hair, sort out my stuff for work and put on make-up
7.55 make sure DS is getting something for breakfast, hang up wet washing
8.10 (at the latest) = DS and I leave (I drop him to school - awkward journey), park car back at house and leave directly for work - a 20 minute walk away.
At desk by 9.
Long for school holidays when I only have to worry about me again - thank goodness they are long.

olderyetwider · 06/09/2011 09:58

Work at home days:
6am DH up and leaves for work about 6.30
6.30am GCs get up, shower and dress (they like plenty of time in the mornings) and feed cats, guinea pigs and rabbit, empty dishwasher, check school bags and make their breakfast
7am GD brings me cup of tea
7.15am I get up, shower, dress.
7.30am chat to kids, check what plans we have after school etc, log computer on
8.10am GCs out of door to walk to school
8.15 start work, then lurk on mumsnet for a bit and have to work in evening.

Commuting days:
5.30am get up, dressed etc as quietly as possible
5.45am leave for station
6.30am my Mum comes round, DH goes to work, routine carries on.

I love having secondary school children who are not yet teenagers Smile

stayforthekids1 · 06/09/2011 10:03

I tend to have laid out/ironed school uniforms the night before, put out dinner money, juice and snack. Laid out jackets and shoes.

7am: Up and 4 dc (ages 1,3,5,6) down for breakfast.
7.30am Elder 2 dc up to bathroom to get washed and brush teeth for school. Whilst they are doing that, I am changing nappies and getting younger two ready for school run.
8.00am Quick shower for me, chuck on some clothes and hope my hair looks alright.
8.20am Brush 2 elder dcs hair, tie it up, make sure they are both presentable.
8.40am Jackets and shoes on for all 4 dc.
8.50am off to school.

BakeliteBelle · 06/09/2011 10:04

7.30 - 8.45 - get severely disabled son washed, changed and breakfasted and on the school bus. Badger DS2 to get ready, find his shoes, eat breakfast not play lego, not wear wellington boots in summer or flip flops in winter, find dinner money, remember we haven't done homework, and get out of the house by 8.45.

I am beginning to realise why we are always late

JustOneMoreGlass · 06/09/2011 10:11

SarahStratton · 06/09/2011 10:54

Sjuper, I check my bank and emails first thing too. It's good practise, it's how I spotted my card had been cloned almost straight away.

Bloody nightmare that was.

Geepers · 06/09/2011 12:29

I have three aged 10, 8, and 4 and twins of 19 months. Our mornings run to a strict routine as follows.

7am Everyone up, washed, dressed, hair done, bags and coats ready, shoes by front door.

7.30 Everyone eats

7.45 Teeth brushed, washing machine on, dishwasher on, downstairs hoovered.

8am. Clean kitchen

8.25. Leave house

Somewhere amongst all that the dog gets let out, fed and watered, the beds get made and the blinds all opened.

MoaningMcMyrtlepants · 06/09/2011 12:44

Dancegirl, my three have been in school for 15-20 mins by the time you leave for school. They start at 8:20 and 8:25. We have to walk to school and that can take up to 45mins or so, we can do it quicker but I don't like to as it is a nightmare to do.

That is why we are up early.
