AIBU to intensely dislike the word "cum" for orgasm?

I don't know why but just reading the word in that spelling makes me actually shudder!

Why isn't it just spelled properly? I don't even get bothered by the "c*" word that makes some people gasp in horror, but this teensy 3 letter word makes my eyeballs want to melt.

Surely there must be an alternative?

I agree with Pfft, I don't mind it as a noun but hate it as a verb.

BananaMontana · 06/09/2011 09:14

I hate it as a noun and a verb. It's commonplace now as a verb, pornification of society innit.

BananaMontana · 06/09/2011 09:15

Horton-cum-Studley makes me laugh though

MissPenteuth · 06/09/2011 09:29

That reminds me of something I read somewhere about a class which was (I forget exactly) something like a wine making-cum-tasting evening. Probably could have been worded better Grin

Helltotheno · 06/09/2011 10:04

MissPenteuth Grin that's gross!! Bet there weren't too many at that... or maybe there were?!

Yes 'cum' is one of the worst words ever and because of it being used the way it's used, I won't use it now in any other way.

But it's not quite as bad as the word 'orgasm' used in a verb way, eg 'orgasming'. Sweet jesus my head hurts when I see that word..

cherryburton · 06/09/2011 10:07

YANBU. I can't even type it. It makes me feel sick.

projectbabyweight · 06/09/2011 10:52

Agree!

HappySeven · 06/09/2011 10:57

But Heeltotheno "cum" means with in Latin and is used alot in English (kitchen cum diner?).

I've never understood why it's also used for semen and had always thought that "come" was used for orgasm but have no idea why I thought that.

wickedwitchofwaterloo · 06/09/2011 11:12

Cum is an ok word in my book.

I hate the word orgasm though shudder

AlwaysbeOpralFruitstome · 06/09/2011 11:15

Heinous. Never more so than when used instead of "come" i.e "Are you going to come to the pub?", "Are you going to cum to the pub?". Argh! (eye's facebook friends list and contemplates a cull) Hmm.

BerryLellow · 06/09/2011 11:19

YANBU I hate seeing the word cum in this context. It really makes me cringe.

BlowHole · 06/09/2011 11:24

It's horrible. Why has it become so normal on here? I have never seen it anywhere else.

Tchootnika · 06/09/2011 11:24

YANBU. 'cum' is dreadful.
Puts young people off learning Latin, too, I should imagine. Shame, shame.

msshapelybottom · 06/09/2011 11:53

I wonder if it's made it into the Oxford English dictionary yet...surely can't be too long before it's there.

Orgasm is a strange word too, but does kind of suit the meaning.

OP posts:
CroissantNeuf · 06/09/2011 11:59

YANBU -it is a horrible word.

Whats even worse is that I have a friend who writes 'cum' instead of 'come' in her texts.

heleninahandcart · 06/09/2011 12:22

I really, really, really HATE the word 'cum', especially when its used as a noun. Its called semen FFS.

'Come' as in orgasm, fine. Orgasm fine.

Do not get me started on 'pussy' Angry

Cocoflower · 06/09/2011 12:46

How about "the Big O" as alternative ? I like the phrase.

Orgasam is a fine word too IMO.

There are many words related to the body and sex I hate; minge, fanny, c**t, Arse, Wank, tits and so on

PigletJohn · 06/09/2011 13:13

of course you are BU

people can use whatever words they want. So can you. There are some people who can't bring themseves to use any words at all. What would you like to do, give everybody a list of your compulsory words?

It's not really the word, though, is it?

PigletJohn · 06/09/2011 13:20

sorry, my mistake

YANBU to dislike a word. It would only BU to try to impose your preference on others.

chocolateyclur · 06/09/2011 13:23

Cum is gross. Cumming is worse.

Didn't Durex use "cumming" in their instruction, er, manuals for a while? Blech.

Helltotheno · 06/09/2011 13:23

It totally is the word! I like to think I'm very kindly disposed towards the act ta very much!

And yes I know it's originally a Latin word and anything from that fine language gets my vote, but now that the word's been taken over by its other meaning, I just can't tolerate it any more!

I don't mind saying it though Wink

Helltotheno · 06/09/2011 13:24

Didn't Durex use "cumming" in their instruction, er, manuals for a while?

ok please tell me that's not true...

Tchootnika · 06/09/2011 14:02

I always feel a bit sorry for people called Cummings, too.

How about la petite mort?

msshapelybottom · 06/09/2011 16:17

I don't care which words other people use, I just was interested to note the effect this particular word, in this particular spelling, has on me!

I am loving the french, thinking I would struggle to remember that at the crucial moment Grin

I don't mind any of the other sexual words, use them myself, it's just this one I can't abide!

OP posts:
CurrySpice · 06/09/2011 16:20

OP I know what you mean. I don't mind saying it because in my mind's eye it's spelled "come"

When I see "cum" written down it makes me clench everything and shudder
