you usually spend when you pop to the Co-Op on a Monday afternoon when you've run out of milk, and end up seeing a few other bits you need, then DS1 asks for a magazine, then you remember you wanted stamps, etc. I just want to compare and see if I'm spending too much on these outings. Thanks.

I popped to the co-op on Saturday for 1 bottle of wine, a bag of onions and a bottle of washing up liquid. It came to a grand total of £24 once the girl on the till put all the rest of the crap in my basket through too. I hate that shop!

StealthPolarBear · 05/09/2011 19:05

my mental block item is kitchen foil

camdancer · 05/09/2011 19:06

Today was £11.01. That included cocoa powder, double cream, dark chocolate, and 2 chocolate lollies. Shock We did also get bananas, grapes, apples, and pears. (Clearly the fruit is to dip in the chocolate. Grin)

HowlingBitch · 05/09/2011 19:06

Depends if I'm hungry or not. I always end up buying biscuits, I don't even eat biscuits but they always seem so lovely on the shelf.

Did it work OK Emsie? I hear it makes the cake lighter and is healthier.

FoundWanting · 05/09/2011 19:15

Usually keep it to just under £20. Corner shop is now a Tesco Express and it's all two for one on stuff you didn't even want one of. Hmm

YummyHoney · 05/09/2011 19:17

Did that today - a shocking £63.00

RedHotPokers · 05/09/2011 19:21

£5.01 - DH always goes on his way home when we are out of milk/bread. He never has any cash so has to spend £5 to use his card.

bigbadbarry · 05/09/2011 19:23

StealthPB I have anti-block on foil. Four rolls in the cupboard ATM.

BrawToken · 05/09/2011 19:25

Just went to co-op for a bag of salad and some new potatoes - got

1 bag smartie cookies (for kids Blush honest)
1 baby wipes (half price although no kids in nappies here so unnecessary)
3 packs snackajacks (on diet - well, it is Monday, eaten one already Blush)
1 box oatcakes (for lunch at work)
1 bag salad
1 packet venus razors (half price for teenage dd, dancer)
1 shaving cream (half price - teenager again, can't honestly remember when my legs last saw a razor Blush)
1 Bold liquitabs (half price)
2 packs salami (yum)
1 bag charlotte potatoes
2 packs Frankfurters (teenager in residence)

£19.96 + £10 cashback in coins for school dinner money machine thing:)

spiderslegs · 05/09/2011 19:26

Don't even want to talk about 'popping into co-op for a pint of milk', it usually costs me about £40, constantly berate myself for it but seem pathalogically incapable of passing the deli counter without the addition of nice ham, am then magnetically drawn towards the magazines, after which my legs appear to spirit me to the booze aisle (stopping for chocolate & breakfast goods on the way).

Why? Why? WHY?

Because I am a weak willed fool, that's why.

That money could be spent on shoes.

WilsonFrickett · 05/09/2011 19:26

About £15 and then I only buy a litre of milk which runs out really quickly in our house so I have to go back the next day... Having said that, I get all my bulk-type stuff from Tesco online once a month, so that 'just nipping for bread and milk' is my weekly shop IYSWIM.

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 05/09/2011 19:28

Any supermarket I 'pop into' to buy one or two items that I've forgotten, or run out of, usually results in a c£40-£50 bill at the till.

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 05/09/2011 19:29

You and me both, spider, but at least I only have to buy 2 shoes instead of 8 Grin

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 05/09/2011 19:31

Speaking of 'naice ham' - what's happened to heavy metal mumsnet the rock band?

AmnaRazaq · 05/09/2011 19:44

done it heaps of times..go to buy one thing end up spending between £20-30! half of which is necessary stuff and the rest just pure luxury! Hate doing it but cant seem to stop! feel so guilty afterwards for wasting money that we dont have lol

nomorelego · 05/09/2011 19:53

Mine is usually only about £5-6 but as the coop is right next to school, the £5-6 is almost every day! Milk one day, bread the next, just some potatoes or veg to add to what we've got for tea. Then I grab the crisps on offer and the reduced meat for the freezer and so it goes on!

I got 2 loaves of bread today - 2 for £2, so far so good, then I got to the reduced rack of bread by the till and picked up a bag of bagels and some rolls - bargains! - but then i really only needed 1 of the loaves of bread, but that wouldn't be worth it cause they're cheaper to buy 2 and I didn't want to go back to the main bread aisle, so i ended up with a bag full of bread products!! Luckily there was plenty of space in the freezer!

WhiteTrash · 05/09/2011 19:54

Average £20. I do that too often.

thefirstmrsrochester · 05/09/2011 20:10

If its co-op, its always over £20. Went to Tesco for 4 naan bread, button mushrooms and bag of apples. Got what i went for plus 2 bottles tesco finest wine, a fig and walnut loaf (reduced), 2 bottles of pepsi (on offer), a pack of choc eclairs (bout to slip by sell by date) and a big bag of shell on king prawns (sale bit) for £18.87.
Well proud.

mumcanIaskaquestion · 05/09/2011 20:13

Nothing.

I have milk delivered, so pay more per pint but no more going for a pint of milk and then spending £30 on bits I didn't need.

I also keep a spare 2 pint bottle of milk in the freezer.

cleanteeth · 05/09/2011 20:18

Mines always different but its been up to about £40 sometimes on absolute shit. I cant help but buy loads when I go to morrisons :(

SixtyFootDoll · 05/09/2011 20:27

My local Co-op has a branch of Peacocks inside.
Many a time I have popped in for milk and come out with a pair of sandals and a scarf. Blush

Probably between £5 to £10. I do make a real effort not to spend much on that sort of trip - the main shop is scary enough.
