what is with this "X requires immediate payment for this item"?

Fuck you then. I'll buy it off someone else Hmm

The only annoying thing on ebay is people who bid over what the items worth, for example buying used Clarks boots for £30 when you can buy ankle boots new for that and long boots for only £10 more.

Or more annoyingly people putting a starting bid on a stained or clearly tatty item but the pictures bad so you have to view it before seeing it was a waste of time. Grrrr.

Pay nowers are Ok just make sure you can and the growlier they are the more they have been done in the past, just shrug it off.

FabbyChic · 05/09/2011 18:26

I generally list with immediate payment as there is something I have to pay for. I listed a Cath Kidston bag at work, googled the image! By the time I came home it was bought and paid for so now I can buy the item I want as I have PayPal funds.

NestaFiesta · 05/09/2011 20:19

Grensleeves- YABU. never mind that your husband has the card you want to pay with or that you want to buy a load of stuff at once. I just think it's really rude to buy something off ebay and take your own sweet time to pay for it.

This has been done to me over and over. I sell an item - no payment. Wait 3 days, send a polite note. Wait 6 days then point out that my auto dispute thingy kicks in at 8 days and to please let me have payment. I usually get it then, but why should I chase it? It's a pain in the arse.

A lot of people who sell on ebay genuinely need the money so don't treat them like this. If a shop won't let you buy items and "wait til pay day", "use another card" "fill my basket" before paying, then don't expect ebay sellers to do it.

We've got bills to pay too!

(bitter voice of pissed off seller who has been fleeced once too many times)

Scheherezade · 05/09/2011 20:36

Am currently dealing with someone who wants a paypal refund of an item she got got for 99p. Which is an absolute bloody nightmare to sort out, because I have to wait for paypal to deposit 2p in my account, which i have to verify, before I can then transfer the funds from my account to paypal. It's taking over a week to sort out, luckily I have online banking which makes it easier.

What an absolute bint. 99 fucking pence.

theoldtrout01876 · 05/09/2011 21:41

Maybe you ebay savvy people can help me.

Im trying to find clothes for my 6 year old ( I cant stand the american styles for dresses).Im looking on the british ebay

Do I have to buy 1 item at a time or is there some way I can look at "bundles" ie more than 1 item from same person.I just dont fancy the postage Id need to pay unless I can get a few bits from the same place,if that makes sense.

My mum used to scour all the local charity shops in her home town and send me good stuff, but poor old mum is not able anymore and its only now I realize my daughter has no winter wardrobe yet and theres no way on gods green earth im putting her in what I can get here (shudders)

rebl · 05/09/2011 21:45

I'm totally fed up tonight though, as a seller. I sold a table (yes, a full sized table) on ebay and clearly stated it was a pick up only item. Finished on Saturday. The winning bidder has only just replied to me (fine, weekend and all that) to tell me she can't possibly pick up the item because she doesn't have a car Hmm. WTF am I going to do now? As the seller I have no come back on the bidder who has lost me a sale and I have to relist.

LetThereBeRock · 05/09/2011 21:47

If you click on a particular auction/item,it'll list the seller's name, rating etc. Below that it should say 'See other items' which will allow you to see all the items they have available. Some may also have a shop in which case it'll say 'See other items' and below that Visit shop.

Their listing may mention combining postage,if not you could message them to ask if they offer that service.

pigletmania · 05/09/2011 21:50

Well greensleves wait until he is there, than you buy your stuff. You would not be able to do that at a shop would you?I totally agree with sellers, they have probably been messed about one too many times, and want a quick and easy transaction. There is nothing wrong with stipulating payment within x amount of days, some buyers really do take the piss.

pigletmania · 05/09/2011 21:51

Grrr why don't people read the listing before bidding

Peachy · 06/09/2011 07:11

Henry wrt to the clothes- Dh is qualified in his field, very technical. He gets peple who copy and paste his adverts (Ebay deal with that, although as Dh an offer servicing we find messaging them about the types of servicing they offer sorts that Wink) or more commonly now people who spend 2 days emailing questions about the spec of equipment then list their own item with all his answers on. We have a website as well and this is our living; at times Dh has spent a day sorting out units thinking he has a sale of a lage desk and it's quite demoralising.

wishiwasholdingaachinegun · 06/09/2011 09:32

Oh yes, bnkers eBay buyers!

I've got some stuff listed which state soooooo clearly that I only post within the U.K. Stuff sen abroad always seems to get lost nd is just more trouble than it's worth.

This morning I've had my fourth email asking me to post abroad. Queries range from 'will you make an exception' to plain old 'do you post to....'!

Why can't they read the aution properly?

CBear6 · 06/09/2011 09:53

I always pay straight away if it's a BIN item. If it's a regular auction I just input my maximum bod and then check back later to see if I won or not so sometimes payments gets sent same day and sometimes the next day, depending on what time the auction ends.

eBay is like everywhere, you get good and bad and some people are lovely whereas others aren't. I bought an item a few weeks ago and paid as soon as the auction ended, literally within minutes, and sent a message to the seller telling them it had been done. days went by with no response and no item. I mailed again. No response. And again, same thing. I eventually got an email saying the seller was on holiday and would try sort out getting someone to ship the item. Why list an auction with an end date that lands in your holiday?! At least put in the listing that there'll be a shipping delay! I've also noticed that some sellers (not all) have stopped doing feedback too, I've had three not leave any despite me leaving it for them and sending them polite requests to leave some for me.

G1nger · 06/09/2011 09:54

I had someone recently asking me to post abroad. I really couldn't shake the feeling that he was trying to rip me off... He didn't like it when I said no, after a few back and forth emails (him messing around on his side, deciding courier costs after he thought he could get them cheaper than I could).

sarahtigh · 06/09/2011 15:08

prsonally not had a problem posting abroad but if you are a seller it is worth while writng a small bit which you put at the bottom of each listing to stop too many questions this is an example " please feel free to ask any questions.
I generally post things 2-3 times a week, I will post abroad provided not breakable and under the 2kg weight limit.
I am willing to combine postage and package costs for items that auctions end within a few days of each other but please let me know as soon as first item ends as I pack as soon as item solds and it is not feasible to unpack and re-wrap with other things 3 days later
For heavier objects I use a courier but please bear in mind that most cheap couriers do not deliver to highlands/islands or orther remote places so if you live there please ask for quote or it can be sent by royal mail though that is more expensive

I always get a certificate of posting and for more valuable items i always use "signed for" service

please leave feedback once item has arrived so I know it is ok i will then reciprocate any problems please contact me"

to be varied as appropiate

if you list a item collection only but it would obviously fit in a box, expect to be asked if you would consider posting, if you won't say why to avoid being asked, as we have asked often and most people said yes they just did not want to bother arranging courier or thought it would cost too much royal mail
so we arranged it
you can get couriers to take upto 20kg for about £6, (RM About £15 for same weight) you will also generally get much more for item if willing to post, have sent a lawn mower by courier by unscrewing handle holding it etc

Peachy · 06/09/2011 15:12

We often geta sked t post abroad and always say we will provided the buyer complies fully with regulations (one item spent six months traipsing about as was post bomb scare thing and buyer couldn;t be arsed to post requested passport to their customs; ours was included as required) and that they speak enough English that the transaction can be carried out as we don;t speak other languages and we ahve ahd massive problems with that before, ending up with hiring an interpreter to sort a dispute where theyw ere caliing us fraudulent and infact the buyer had only collected one of two parcels from the depot.

But you sell and you learn; experience seems to be all wrt to ebay.

Letz · 06/09/2011 16:52

sarahtigh Can you tell me which courier takes 20kg for £6? Prices ive seen online have always been far more than that.

pigletmania · 06/09/2011 17:37

Well buy it now is just that if you can't afford it don't Bin, put it in your watch section for a later date. Gosh people like to take the pee

fivegomadindorset · 06/09/2011 17:45

INteresting one today, we are looking for a cheap runaround for me to go to work, one in a garage which was passing today, £995 for a P reg Polo, phoned up, somone has a deposit on it but if I would like to leave my details then they will get back to me if sale falls through. Drove past, looked OK, by the time I came home it had gone up to £1,495 on ebay. I am driving past it again tomorrow so will see if they have changed the price on the car. Needless to say will not be buying at the inflated price.

sarahtigh · 06/09/2011 17:51

LDNmummy · 06/09/2011 18:14

Is it allowed to name and shame an ebayer on MN?

Genuine question as she sells baby things and was a complete nightmare, though I was extremely polite and never made her aware of it.

I bought a Baby Bjorn Active carrier from her which she described as in 'excellent condition' (it did not even look like the picture). When it arrived it looked terribly used and tatty and the little logo on the front was even peeling off. The fabric was all bubbled and it must have been washed an awful lot as the colour was very faded and it was turning grey.

I sent a message explaining to her that I didn't want to be rude but didn't feel it met her 'excellent condition' description and she offered a refund, which of course I was happy about. I was in the middle of a moving home process so took me a little longer than I had wished to get it posted back (a week or so after initial messages) but she did indeed recieve it.

I then received a message from her stating that the item was indeed not in described condition and rather tatty and that SHE FELT IT WASN'T THE ONE THAT SHE HAD POSTED TO ME! [ANGRY]

She then stated in a follow up message before I had responded that she hoped I didn't feel she was being rude with the previous message but it had come with instructions and they hadn't come back with item which is partially why she thought that. Of course I carried on being polite and sent instructions back as they had simply been forgotten as I was busy moving home which she was aware of.

Of course she did not refund me for the hassle I had to go through with postage costs and she was one of the arsey types.

That experience has really put me off some sellers and I am more suspicious than I used to be on Ebay. I have a 100% record as a buyer and seller and would like to keep it that way.

G1nger · 06/09/2011 18:24

LDNmummy - probably best not to name and shame, but you could tell us your own ebay username if you wanted and - providing you've left feedback - others could find her :)

if someone does not pay me by day 4 I open a non payment dispute, no excuse for tardiness in not paying in the allotted time which is 4 days by eBay.

toobreathless · 06/09/2011 19:23

I have sold/bought over 200 items on ebay. I have to say in general I have been pretty pleased with almost all of the transactions. I have never had a non payment. Last night I had 5 auctions end & all had paid by this morning.

I go to great lengths to apease my buyers, I always post the next working day after payment. I usually post first class. Even if this costs more than the P&P. If sending a bundle I usually seem to end up throwing in extra items as I always seem to find bits after listing!

My one bad experience (& my only negative) concerned a swim suit which was new with tags and for age 6-9 months according to tag. The buyer said this was 'clearly to small for a 6-9 month old baby' i emailed and things were sorted out fairly amicably, she kept the costume & delined a refund.

I think it is very easy to get fleeced as a buyer, to protect myself I do a couple of things. I only post to UK. I also never leave feedback until it has been left for me so should there be a dispute I, as a seller, can leave negative feedback too. I also refuse to sell to anyone with less than 90% positive feedback or any really bad negatives. I have cancelled auctions, blocked bidders and then relisted to prevent certain bidders who I believe will scam me from winning.

But overall I enjoy selling & buying on ebay, & have been left some really lovely feedback.

pregnantpause · 06/09/2011 19:48

I once left wonderful feedback for a seller, who sold ne a bundle of beautiful baby clothes. They were immaculate. i won for 99p and the p and p was 8pound. Because it was wrapped in a bin. Bag and the stamp displayed 3pounds I left only 3 stars for p and p.

I feel guilty about it now, but I didn't know how important feedback is. She (the seller) sent me a really scathing and offensive email, and blocked ne as a buyer. I can never decide whether she or I were unreasonable, as really she should uave put a higher reserve on the item instead of getting paid by stealth in extra p and p.
