Before i start i'm fully prepared to admit my own stupidity in having even gone on this holiday.
we have just got back from a week in majorca in one of the more family orientated resorts,we had our main holiday earlier in the year and this was just a cheap and cheerful week to break up the school holidays a little.
Before we even took off we had to put up with youths swearing on the plane, badly behaved children climbing over seats and shouting and screaming whilst their parents remained seemingly oblivious.
Upon landing i realised benidorm is not a fictional tv comedy! I knew i wasnt going to get culture and the 'real' spain but did not expect to be in england still, surrounded by vicky polland and family.
I cant believe that people come to these places happily year after year as there were some 'normal' families there amongst the 'get here' brigade(if i had a pound for everytime i heard a parent shout this).
Before this holiday i hadnt been on a package holiday since 1996 and i can honestly say if i went again in the next 15 years it would be too bloody soon!

Im also going to Benidorm soon Shock, but it is a five star spa hotel so maybe I pull back the chav factor somewhat...

catgirl1976 · 03/09/2011 18:57

It's not the "asia gardens" one is it? I know someone who came back from there recently. They loved it (but they would fall in the "Benidorm" camp It looks like a theme park

MumblingRagDoll · 03/09/2011 18:57

Some "normal" people don't have the option of a "real" holiday and a packkage is all they can afford.

Snotty you sound.

I can''t even afford a week in Benidorm....you really sound worse than the common people you encountered to be frank.

catgirl1976 · 03/09/2011 18:59

Camping in the UK is affordable and still a "real" holiday - far preferable. There is no need to go to places like Benidorm - its not an income issue, it's a taste issue.

BimboNo5 · 03/09/2011 19:00

Oh shaddap with your sanctimonious snobbery Catgirl, I enjoy myself wherever I go and have holidayed in Dubai, Singapore and Tokyo to name a few places. But life deals you a shit hand at times and you have to cut your cloth accordingly. If that means po faced buggers like you NOT going where I can afford to holiday at the moment then win win all round hey?

MumblingRagDoll · 03/09/2011 19:01

Bimbo I have almost nothing in the bank...no car..no holiday....I also have a degree from one of the best universities in the country and the only yobbish thing about me is that on occasion I may think "Shove the recycling!" and pop a plastic bag in the bin.

You sound awfully narrow minded.

catgirl1976 · 03/09/2011 19:02

I'm being snobby? I just don't like package holidays as a personal matter of taste. I don't link that to people's income Bimbo - that would be you - and I quote:

Thing is, if you go all inclusive for instance it often works out cheaper than going somewhere and forking out for food and drink non stop. You do get the chavvy/rowdy/common people but everyone needs a holiday and people spend what they can afford on it, naturally attracting the people who tend to behave more antisocial. We have to do it sometimes, we couldnt afford a holiday otherwise. If we had the money to surround ourselves with people of a better class we probably would

MumblingRagDoll · 03/09/2011 19:03

cat Camping requires a car, a tent, a multitude of equipment.

That takes a lot of spending power.

It's not a taste issue....some people would like to get some sunshine, a swimming pool and a good time.

BimboNo5 · 03/09/2011 19:03

Excuse me have I said all poor people are yobs? No! Think you are directing your anger at the wrong person ffs.

Catgirl- I would HATE to go camping as would my family, does that give ME the right to look down on you?

AlpinePony · 03/09/2011 19:03

bimbo when I worked in alcudia your holiday complex was suicide central. One memorable morning involved staff waking guests to check their balcony for a head. The body on the floor had lost it on the way down.

Enjoy.

Bunbaker · 03/09/2011 19:04

"I think package holidays are fine, but really need to do homework on Trip Advisor or recommendations from friends."

I agree. I think it depends entirely on the resort. In fact we have just returned from a fabulous package holiday, with First Choice, on Lake Garda. DD is 11 and has no interest in kids clubs, we avoid all inclusive holidays like the plague and avoid "Blackpool on sea" places like Benidorm and Magaluf. The last few abroad holidays have all been packages to quieter (non chav, if I can get away with saying this) resorts and have always enjoyed them. You just have to avoid the really popular holiday hotspots.

We knew we had picked the right resort when most of the people getting on the coach at the airport were retired, families and a few couples. There were no hen or stag parties ar groups of young people looking for an exciting nightlife.

magentastardust · 03/09/2011 19:05

People often say that to me -oh I wouldn't do a villa holiday-I would need a break too-eh yes me too!
You can still eat out if your staying at a villa it certainly doesn't mean cooking and dishes for me -it's our holidays! A maid comes and cleans your villa and change towels through out the week.
Yes you have to make your beds and pour your own cornflakes into a bowl of a morning but that's not really too much hard work -especially as you can eat breakfast anytime you fancy and don't have to fight for a sunbed near the kids pool!

catgirl1976 · 03/09/2011 19:05

I wasn't looking down on anyone bimbo
and you didn't say ALL poor people are yobs but you did say the people who tend to be more yobbish ARE the ones with the least money which is a bit off

mumbling apologies - you do need a lot of equipment to camp, especially as a family

MumblingRagDoll · 03/09/2011 19:05

You do get the chavvy/rowdy/common people but everyone needs a holiday and people spend what they can afford on it, naturally attracting the people who tend to behave more antisocial

Bimbo the highlighted section above proves that you DO think those with less money are antisocial.

BimboNo5 · 03/09/2011 19:07

You do get the chavvy rowdy yobbos on package holidays, thats not being snobby its a fact of life. Its also a fact of life anti social behavior is more prevalent in the lower classes. But im not looking down on people like this and saying they aren't worthy of being on the same holiday as me am I?

catgirl1976 · 03/09/2011 19:07

Its also a fact of life anti social behavior is more prevalent in the lower classes.

wow. Hmm

BimboNo5 · 03/09/2011 19:08

Okay, can someone produce me some evidence that anti social behaviour is more prevalent in families with higher incomes? Ta.

BimboNo5 · 03/09/2011 19:09

Not wow Hmm at all Catgirl, stop trying to make an issue that isn't there. What im quoting is backed up by actual evidence, there is loads of it. If you dont agree, disprove it, dont accuse me of looking down on people due to stating a fact.

MumblingRagDoll · 03/09/2011 19:09

Oh that's it.

THE LOWER CLASSES???? You're not worth talking to Bimbo I think you're a person with no taste, less class and the blinkered veiw of middle Enlgand at its worst.

BimboNo5 · 03/09/2011 19:11

Oh stop fucking over reacting, you cant even state something thats a proven fact without being shouted down anymore. My view isnt blinkered, im realistic and im far from saying people arent good enough to holiday with unlike the OP

MumblingRagDoll · 03/09/2011 19:13

There you go. Point proved.

TheOriginalNutcracker · 03/09/2011 19:13

I think, seeing as it was your second and not even main holiday of the year, that you should jut suck it up and stop moaning.

PiousPrat · 03/09/2011 19:16

Bimbo has a point. After all, those Bullingdon boys are beautifully behaved... Hmm

albertcamus · 03/09/2011 19:16

Bimbo I don't know if you're a windup but your attitude stinks.

I have spent twnety years teachings kids whose families range from homeless / lowest income brackets to titles / highest; I've organised school trips ranging from camping to 5* hotel New York, and all levels in between, both funded by parents, European grants, grafting parents, charities, Young Carers etc. etc.

I can assure you that I would MUCH rather take the children of what you probably regard as the 'underclass' ANYWHERE than the priveliged offspring who have been there, seen that, done it and been spoilt rotten all their lives.

'Poor' tends to equal grateful and appreciative in a travel context is my experience ...

catgirl suck it up ... let the middle classes carry on tombstoning in Newquay ... :(

twinklytroll · 03/09/2011 19:17

Gosh how awful to have to mix with the lower classes on holiday . Just so you know that this lower class family can't even afford to holiday in Benidorm so you are safe from having to mix with us yobs. Grin
