Do you swop your names around?
Been on here for 14 years and it's interesting to see how familiar people react when they don't know who you are..
Do you stick with one name or do you have more?

Worral- got to say, I see a lot of your posts and (for what it's worth!) you are consistent no matter whose thread it is :o

KittyFane · 02/09/2011 22:40

In a good way BTW! :)

I've had about 5 names over 18monts - 2years, I reckon. I just name change periodically whenever I deem I've posted an enormous amount of stuff that would easily identify me to someone who knew me in RL. I'm pretty open both on here and in RL, so it would be easy to identify me from my more unique experiences if you actually knew me.

"Some posters are a bit bum kissy to whoever they deem well-known."
I agree, but sadly can't say that anyone has ever been bum-kissy to me at any point ever, even though I've been posting under this name for quite a while. I've obviously not posted anything remotely engaging, wise, memorable or incredibly inflammatory!

Haha yeah, I'm an arsey little fuck on all of them Grin

KittyFane · 02/09/2011 22:45

Was that ok?! :o

GetAwayFromHerYouBitch · 02/09/2011 22:47

re; the bum kissing -

it's OK to like someone on here and treat them as you would a friend. I do genuinely "like" some people on here, though I've never met them, (and have no desire to, really)

HOWEVER

I think that's why name-changing is freeing - because you can end up feeling as constrained by not wanting to disagree with people you like, or wanting to impress those people as you do in RL. So, for me the anonymity of MN isn't serving it's purpose

GetAwayFromHerYouBitch · 02/09/2011 22:48

Figs - never 'eard of ya

worraliberty · 02/09/2011 22:50

I can honestly say that over the years (both here and on other forums) I have nearly always disagreed with people I like.

I don't see the harm in it at all. I mean no-one agrees with someone all the time just because they're a friend in real life...so why here?

It's quite possible to completely disagree with someone...get right on your soap box, argue a subject to death...and then totally agree with them 100% on a different thread about a totally different subject.

Nothing personal at all imo.

Feminine · 02/09/2011 22:56

I agree worra but...

I think its a shame though, when posters (that are obviously friends) turn up on a thread and tear a new or unknown poster to pieces ...not really caring one way or another!

It always happens on AIBU ...I have felt the brunt of it.

GetAwayFromHerYouBitch · 02/09/2011 22:57

worral - that's the thing. I'm not as assertive as I should be. I 'm not a pushover in RL, but I do think I express my opinions more forcefully here

worraliberty · 02/09/2011 23:00

Yeah I've seen that happen Feminine. It's also quite amusing when a group of regular posters fawn over a 'newbie OP' to tell them and everyone else that they are not BU...even when they clearly are.

Then you realise, the OP is a name change and said fawners are 'in the know' Grin

GetAwayFromHerYouBitch well I admit your name scares me a little Shock Grin

MonsterBookOfTysons · 02/09/2011 23:08

I used to name change alot, but have for a while now stayed as Ty/Tyson with add on's. I plan on staying as Ty/Tyson for as long as Im here now :)

GetAwayFromHerYouBitch · 02/09/2011 23:10

worral - it's from Aliens. Ripley says it to the mummy-alien who is trying to get Newt. It's a great kick-ass line.

KittyFane · 02/09/2011 23:10

I've seen lots of newbies being flamed unfairly, I also don't like the welcome to my gang type posts...
< makes mental note to name change more regularly just for the hell of it>

OP posts:
DoMeDon · 02/09/2011 23:11

Oh figs I always thought you were an arsehole Wink

TBH I rarley notice names - there are some prolific posters with forthright opinions who I recognise but sometimes I agree/not - have yet to notice anyone I always agree with. But that's like me in life - I love my mates but often disagree - doesn;t matter if I like someone they can still be wrong.

GetAwayFromHerYouBitch · 02/09/2011 23:14

Get away from her you bitch

LemonDifficult · 02/09/2011 23:17

I have loads of names. Mainly because whenever I think of an RL dilemma I want to air I get concerned whoever I'm discussing could search my user name and work out it was them! Unlikely, I know, but ...

I've also posted several times about business issues that it would be very indiscreet to discuss widely in RL. Just not worth taking the chance.

KittyFane · 02/09/2011 23:39

Getawayfromheryoubitch :o

OP posts:
NorksAreMessy · 03/09/2011 00:37

See, I always read 'getawayfromheryoubitch' in the voice of Alice Tinker from The Vicar Of Dibley.

Sorry

FabbyChic · 03/09/2011 00:39

I only use this name. Id be recognisable under any ID I had so what be the point?

StringOrNothing · 03/09/2011 00:48

How very true Fabby

Getawayfromheryoubitch is a strong contender for Best Name Ever, and I hate GAFHYB with a passion for snagging it before I could.

KittyFane · 03/09/2011 09:17

:o for once @ fabby !!!

iFailedTheTuringTest · 03/09/2011 11:25

I namechange so I don't out myself. Esp if I put sensitive personal stuff out there. I wouldn't like it if someone searched my name and was able to get masses of info on me or worse, my family by sorting thro my posts, I have discussed medical probs on here that is rather no one irl connected them to me. I do have a lighthearted name I keep returning to for fun stuff but it got a bit outed when a discussion on why my oh didn't want to go to the gym, so I have had to abandon it for a while. This is a new name, fresh this week.
