AIBU to make a formal complaint about this taxi driver?

Was just hanging out my washing on the balcony and watching the world go by (as you do) and saw a guy, late 30ish, hobble along the road with the aid of two walking sticks/supports and a dog towards a taxi.

The taxi driver refused to take him as he didnt like the look of his dog and drove off.

The dog was a cross-breed but looked like it had a bit of Staffie in it.

The guy was obviously distressed so I popped down to ask if he wanted me to call him another taxi. Guy was grateful as had no credit in phone.

New taxi came and took him without a problem.

My question is would it be unreasonable to formally complain about the first taxi driver........It was a black cab

Are dogs normally allowed in taxis?

I don't want the KinderEgg I just want the toy....

PlatonicMitten · 01/09/2011 14:09

Thats ok velvet, I can eat your egg, and you can have MY toy in return... That gives me, two eggs, and you get two toys....

VelvetSnow · 01/09/2011 14:10

Says Huffythetantrumslayer

Never has a name had so much irony Grin

Am I being annoying yet? I'm trying to be a distraction...

SiamoFottuti · 01/09/2011 14:11

Not offended in the slightest. Just bemused by a) the recent rash of "should I complain about this bus driver/taxi man/tree stump" posts and b) the "ooh look at me, I'm so helpful and kind, what would the locals do without me" attitude of the OP.

VelvetSnow · 01/09/2011 14:13

Grin at tree stump!

unsure if that's a typo

ChaoticAngeloftheUnderworld · 01/09/2011 14:17

That damn tree stump, always picking on people Grin

Kinder eggs, I haven't bought one of those in ages. The DC used to like them, the toys were a pain in the neck or more often the foot

Huffythetantrumslayer · 01/09/2011 14:18

Aw I was just gonna start a thread about a tree stump I wanted to complain about. Are you saying it's not a good idea? Damn.

SiamoFottuti · 01/09/2011 14:19

I wouldn't throw the OP a kinder egg if I were you, she'll choke on the toy and sue you all. Wink

skrumle · 01/09/2011 14:20

you would be unreasonable to complain as you didn't make the original booking so you would be taking the guy's word for it that he made the request about a dog clear. the drive should have arranged for a different taxi to come along but did the guy ask for him to do so?

drivers are under no obligation to take dogs, totally their own discretion (except in cases the DDA would cover).

VelvetSnow · 01/09/2011 14:21

How many ways can a tree stump offend....let's count.

  1. Well, a tree has been chopped down - offensive!
  2. I reversed my car into a tree stump - short and sneaky, I didn't see the bugger

Any more??

ChaoticAngeloftheUnderworld · 01/09/2011 14:22

It sneaked up on me in the dark and tripped me up Grin

VelvetSnow · 01/09/2011 14:23

My husband is a taxi driver ( private hire) he doesn't allow smokers, or dogs in his car ( except two regular passengers where he knows the dogs are clean and very docile) . He is happy for guide dogs as he has to be anyway.

I actually did drive over a tree stump in Tesco's car park a few days before Christmas. It was dark at the time and the car park was badly lit. It was an ornamental tree that vandals had broken along with the car park lights.

I stormed into the shop to complain to the manager about the damage but it was a bit embarrassing because when we looked there wasn't any.

I was reduced to muttering about what could have happened if a toddler or old person had happened upon the stump if they had been wandering about in the gloom.

He gave me some vouchers to get rid of -me-- make up.

SiamoFottuti · 01/09/2011 14:42

nah, we drive buses, and thank fuckity, not in the UK.

And don't talk to me about tree stumps I'm not quite over it yet.

Andrewofgg · 01/09/2011 14:58

Tree stumps only attack cars in self-defence.

creamola · 01/09/2011 15:09

and then the dogs pee on them??

how has this gone from taxi drivers refusing dogs to tree stumps??

because sometimes, creamy one can wander into a thread and be able to cut the atmosphere with one sweep of a samurai sword.

one way to sort that out is to send the thread in a completely random direction and once again everyone is posting smileys and being nice and jovial.

although i like what you did there with the dog pissing on the tree stump thing - looks like we've gone full circle :)

limitedperiodonly · 01/09/2011 17:02

Thinking about it more deeply velvet I would say that it's not always an offensive action to chop down a tree:

  1. George Washington taught us important things about always telling the truth;
  1. My friends wanted to chop down a tree in their garden that was casting gloom on their basement flat but the neighbours in the top floor flat whined to the the council about their enjoyment of their treetop idyll in a city environment. Council sided with my friends;
  1. The people next door who have a fucking weed forsythia which briefly blooms a cheery yellow in early spring before sending out alarmingly long, strong and rank-smelling shoots that I have to hack down or risk dying of vitamin D deficiency through lack of sunlight.
limitedperiodonly · 01/09/2011 17:02

A Samurai sword wouldn't cut it

creamola · 01/09/2011 17:43

I can't imagine a sweep with a Samuri sword would either .......

surely you swoop with a Samuri sword not sweep ?

OP posts:
VelvetSnow · 01/09/2011 20:33

on reflection I'd say swipe.

not sweep, not swoop.

creamola · 01/09/2011 20:36

yeah swipe sounds better VelvetSnow .............I can't even remeber what my orginial point was now !

but swipe it is
