AIBU to make a formal complaint about this taxi driver?

Was just hanging out my washing on the balcony and watching the world go by (as you do) and saw a guy, late 30ish, hobble along the road with the aid of two walking sticks/supports and a dog towards a taxi.

The taxi driver refused to take him as he didnt like the look of his dog and drove off.

The dog was a cross-breed but looked like it had a bit of Staffie in it.

The guy was obviously distressed so I popped down to ask if he wanted me to call him another taxi. Guy was grateful as had no credit in phone.

New taxi came and took him without a problem.

My question is would it be unreasonable to formally complain about the first taxi driver........It was a black cab

Are dogs normally allowed in taxis?

the driver could have at least called for another taxi!
i would call the company and explain what happened and that the 1st taxi just left the guy standing there.

TheMonster · 01/09/2011 12:29

Just because he ordered a taxi for him and a dog doesn't mean the driver was told there was a dog. A few weeks ago we ordered a cab for 4 adults and a child. The operator said the big car was out (I presume she meant the 7 seater) but she'd send the next best thing - which was a bog standard estate car. The driver said he wouldn't take us, and we wouldn't have got in anyway as DS would have been expected to sit on a lap. How unsafe!

Andrewofgg · 01/09/2011 12:32

They have to take guide dogs (causes huge upset in towns where many of them are Muslims and regard all dogs as unclean) but not others. As it should be. I would not want a dog in my vehicle and if I lost revenue in consequence that's my loss.

So people who help others 'have too much time in their hands'?

OP, sorry i dont know what the law is but imo it was nice of you to get downstairs and help him.

limitedperiodonly · 01/09/2011 12:49

Velvet your post deserves an award. People can't be warned enough about messy dogs in cars.

My dog used to stand on the back seat, resting her chin on my dad's shoulder and drooling down his chest.

However he preferred that to having my sister directly behind him because if she felt carsick she had a habit of puking on the back of his neck.

SiamoFottuti · 01/09/2011 12:54

complaining about taxi drivers you haven't even spoken to is not helping others. It's being a meddling busybody.

creamola · 01/09/2011 12:59

SiamoFottuti if I could suck my teeth I would ....just for you.

A meddling busybody, get a grip Grin

OP posts:
SiamoFottuti · 01/09/2011 13:23

I'm not the one who needs a grip dear, perhaps you could call a taxi to pop put and get one. You might find other random things to complain about along the way.

MilkandWine · 01/09/2011 13:28

I'm pretty sure taxi drivers only have to allow assistance dogs in their cabs, anything else is down to their discretion.

I have a tiny lapdog and a taxi driver once refused to let me in his cab without him in a carry box as he would "get hair everywhere". It's annoying but I suppose I could see the drivers point.

It was kind of you to help the man though Smile

eh? what are you actually trying to say?

I have no idea how to pop put a taxi and get one Grin

dodgy key board. Quite obviously the word is out rather than put. Perhaps you could get reading glasses while you're looking for your grip?

VelvetSnow · 01/09/2011 13:37

do I need to get out my popcorn?

VelvetSnow · 01/09/2011 13:37

or should I say put.... Grin

PMSL.

Claw3 · 01/09/2011 13:48

It is down to the driver as to whether he will take a dog or not, unless an assistance dog.

I would have thought seen as the guy said he had a dog when he ordered it, they would have sent a driver willing to take a dog.

Nice of you to help him.

Ah the age old proverb comes into play 'a bad workman always blames his tools'....dodgy keyboard my arse. You were trying to insult but failed due to a typo Smile

and would these be special reading glasses that help me understand your typo's ???

OP posts:
VelvetSnow · 01/09/2011 13:58

hmmm, the insult was obvious regardless of the typo, IMVHO Wink

Huffythetantrumslayer · 01/09/2011 13:59

Can't quite understand why op has been told off on this thread. Isn't yabu easy enough to say? Which I think you would be to complain to taxi company but you were very nice to call another cab for the man.

ChaoticAngeloftheUnderworld · 01/09/2011 14:02

No, I can't understand why the OP has had a telling off either. Some of the comments are unnecessary.

SiamoFottuti · 01/09/2011 14:04

did that one little typo confuse you? Aw, how do you manage round here? Do you understand the pristine posts or do you need an interpreter for those too?

And my dodgy keyboard wants nothing to do with your arse, it was mine wot broke it in the first place.

VelvetSnow · 01/09/2011 14:07

Again, may I direct everyone to my award winning post

It's a battle of wits, no one wants to back down.

My money is on the OP

does no one know that sometimes it's better to just walk away rather than keep trying to get the last word

PlatonicMitten · 01/09/2011 14:07

I have 6 bags of Make your own popcorn, and 10 3 packs of kindereggs. Anyone?

VelvetSnow · 01/09/2011 14:08

x post with Siamo

Huffythetantrumslayer · 01/09/2011 14:08

Siamo are you really offended by the op doing something nice? Seems very odd. Do you want to talk about it?

Must admit you have made me giggle even if you have been a tad prickly.
