Just want to say a huge thanks re: aibu to be concerned about this man thread. Emailed mum with a load of collected evidence about the scams going on, mostly thanks to you guys! She got in touch with the dating site to investigate and surprise surprise he is no longer a member. Although he has sent a photo which we were having a laugh over today, I might have to put it on my profile!

Great pic Grin

Glad your mum is OK, didn't see the original thread but love a happy ending.

solidgoldbrass · 30/08/2011 22:59

Well done Gem!

spatchcock · 30/08/2011 23:00

I also saw your last thread and am really glad your mum escaped unscathed.

I'm also a member of the 419eater forum - you should submit that brilliant pic to the trophy room!

festi · 30/08/2011 23:02

can we get him to do a Im not a troll pose with sign just for mn. that would be great Grin

pigletmania · 30/08/2011 23:04

I can't see anything wrong with the photo, or mabey its my poor eyesight Grin, but yes most certain its a scammer. Even if that is the actual guy, you don't know what his real intentions are. Wolf in sheeps clothing so to speak.

IwanttobeShirleyValentine · 30/08/2011 23:10

sailorsgal · 01/09/2011 14:44

Who is the guy in the pic though?

glad it has ended well. Tell your mum there is someone nice out there for her. How old she is? Now I have a single friend. Smile

cloudydays · 01/09/2011 14:54

I lurked on your thread - by the time I read it you'd gotten so much good advice that there was nothing to add. But I'm really glad to know that your mum saw the truth and wasn't too upset by it. You sound like a great daughter.

The poor guy in the pic - probably some random Facebook picture of someone who has no idea his face is being used to scam people out of their savings :(

SnakeOnCrack · 01/09/2011 15:41

So glad she's seen the light and doesn't appear to be too heartbroken! And that picture is hilarious!!

It's really sad the lengths they'll go to to entrap lonely people though isn't it :(

LaurieFairyCake · 01/09/2011 15:44

I know it's a bit of a tragic story but that photo has made me laugh out loud Blush

Ah ha! I was watching the original thread for an update, but you had snuck over here Gemdrop. Very well done for finally getting her to see the light before it was too late. Did the US Army people ever reply to you, BTW?

Going to trot off to Flickr for a laugh. :)

scrambedeggs · 01/09/2011 16:09

Red2011 · 01/09/2011 16:33

Love the pic! :)

FigsAndWine · 01/09/2011 17:57

So glad this has turned out ok, OP. I hope your mum is less trusting on the internet in future. Hilariously bad picture.
