... is theft? Friend says 'supermarket can afford it'. I think it's stealing. (Catchweighed at checkout... not fixed price pack I should add) AIBU?

oooh, where's the P & C thread?

HPonEverything · 30/08/2011 17:07

Cherries are a whole different ball game because the taste varies so much.
I've never considered try-before-you-buy before (not sure why) but I'm definitely going to from now on.

stripeywoollenhat the finding of an equivalent banana and traipsing back sounds like a hassle. Could you not make the banana stand your first port of call, then go pay for it at the cig kiosk before commencing your big shop? Alternatively you could just not bother (although I'm like you and I'd have to too Blush)

LadyFlumpalot · 30/08/2011 17:08

How about in the shops where you weigh them yourself and print off a sticker? Surely then you can scoff as many as you like on the way round as you have a record of the pre-scoffed weight?

ExitPursuedByATroll · 30/08/2011 17:13

Sorry - can't do links - the P&C thread is in AIBU and starts off about Disabled badge holders parking in P&C spaces. Grin

fedupofnamechanging · 30/08/2011 17:18

Okay, but with cherries what do you do with the pesky stone? Spit or swallow? The former seems rude in a supermarket.

Also, If we are going to lovingly recall childhood biscuits, where are United's? Especially the orange ones.

karma, DD carefully spat all the stones back into the bag.

fedupofnamechanging · 30/08/2011 17:23

That was very thoughtful of her rips Smile

G1nger · 30/08/2011 17:24

I agree. It's shocking behaviour. Whereas PYO strawberry fields... Well they just have it coming ;)

Insomnia11 · 30/08/2011 17:32

Don't think it's a problem if pre-packed/priced.

The checkout assistant scanned half eaten bags of carrot crisps for us when DD1 was little. Blush

AuntieMonica · 30/08/2011 17:42

i blame Jamie Oliver and the likes, before we had to give our kids healthy food no-one batted an eyelid at DCs chomping their way through a sausage roll

TrickyBiscuits · 30/08/2011 17:47

But whhhhy??? Grapes are covered in some kind of talc shit before you wash them. What the fuck is that anyway?

G1nger · 30/08/2011 17:48

I tell you what doesn't work: when you drink half a bottle of juice while waiting for a scan-your-own-items till to become available, and then attempt to place it on the check out scales. I don't know who'd do that, though, ahem.

Panzee · 30/08/2011 17:51

I ate a damson once because I didn't know what they tasted like. I put the stone in my pocket. Blush

Thepoweroforangeknickers · 31/08/2011 01:51

Tricky - oh just some pesticides I suppose!

Even though pesticides are present in food at very small trace levels, their negative impact on health is well documented. The liver's ability to process other toxins, the cells' ability to produce energy, and the nerves' ability to send messages can all be compromised by pesticide exposure. According to the Environmental Working Group's 2011 report "Shopper's Guide to Pesticides in Produce," imported grapes are among the 12 foods on which pesticide residues have been most frequently found. Therefore, individuals wanting to avoid pesticide-associated health risks may want to avoid consumption of imported grapes unless they are grown organically. at least fricken wash them

pignatelli · 31/08/2011 03:27

YANBU, it brought down Woolworths.

RedHelenB · 31/08/2011 09:14

love the idea of trimming the stalks off the broccoli!!

biddysmama · 31/08/2011 10:42

i buy the ones that have prices on them, i like to add my shopping up as i go around and not have a nasty surprise of £5 worth or grapes when i get to the till

thankyou for reminding hungry pregnant lady that theres grapes in the fridge tho, ive just polished off half a watermelon (im at home, not asda tho lol)

biddysmama · 31/08/2011 10:45

i have snacks in my nappy bag for shutting the children up when they are hungry and we are out

littlemisssarcastic · 31/08/2011 10:47

Was always called 'grazing' when I worked in supermarket, and staff took no notice. I have no opinion either way, although I don't do it myself, or let my younger DC do it.
