Name stealing?

my brother's best friend has just named his newborn the same name as my brother's son- who is four years old. Now I know that it is a compliment, but it's the way in which he conducted himself. He didn't consult with my brother, didn't even tell him his baby had been born a week ago. My brother heard from a friend. When he rang to congratulate him, and asked the baby's name, he commented it was nice that he had named him after his son: but his best friend had the audacity to say he didn't like the name at all, it was his girlfriend's choice, also he wasn't aware that my brother's son had that name, although he had an inkling! He said they consulted baby name books, etc. My brother is understandably upset and feels betrayed. We, as a family, feel my brother's pain. But are we being terribly unreasonable, or are we justified in our emotions?

nenevomito · 29/08/2011 14:33

You feel his pain?? Betrayed??

Are you having a Giraffe?

Whatever you do don't go onto any 'popular names' lists. I'd be worried for your state of health on finding how many people can share a name.

fourkids · 29/08/2011 14:33

sorry, nothing to add...but had to add SOMETHING to bump it back up!

AgentZigzag · 29/08/2011 14:34

He's more of an acquaintance than a best friend if that's how they are with each other.

Not sure I can pass a proper judgement until you say what the name is though...

MugglesandLuna · 29/08/2011 14:34

I hope you never have anything to really worry about!

Get a life.

TalkinPeace2 · 29/08/2011 14:34

I have used the name Paul.
None of the rest of you ever can now.
Ever.

Ever.

Ever.

Good Grief OP. YABU.

I think you need to look up Pain and Betrayal in the dictionary. You must all have led very sheltered lucky lives if this is your biggest worry.

I hope so pippi - I miss that thread - It still makes me randomly chuckle every now and then

Am off to sue 1 pop star, 2 actresses and a large corporate brand for using my name without consulting me first.

My family have gathered to communally feel my pain and howl at the moon

fourkids · 29/08/2011 14:40

I know someone who named her DC the same name as her dog. A bit odd...and a tad confusing, I agree, but, to be honest, I don't think the dog minds.

Tchootnika · 29/08/2011 14:42

catgirl - I think we may have the same name.
AND I'm older than you.
AND I said I thought you were alright on that arse-lick thread...
How very dare you?
Angry

catgirl1976 · 29/08/2011 14:44

Dammit - I was hoping you would never find out Tchoo

I have betrayed you :( The pain can never be healed. The rift is too great!

worraliberty · 29/08/2011 14:44

I want to do a poo at TalkinPeace's house......

pippilongsmurfing · 29/08/2011 14:44

catgirl can't stop giggling about it now.

sjuperwolef · 29/08/2011 14:45

ffs. its a name! loads of kids have DDs name and 2 of my friends wanted variants of it for their DDs in fact one has it as a middle name.

some best friend if he doesnt know your brothers kids name and its taken your brother a week to find out his friends baby had been born, then for his friend to take that reaction.

sounds more like loose friends where your brothers 'best friend' doesnt bloody like him!

MugglesandLuna · 29/08/2011 14:46

One of my parents friends has rats called Morse and Lewis, then they had a DS and called him Lewis.

defrocked · 29/08/2011 14:46

i am gonna write to the queen and complain as one of her boys has same name as one of mine

pfft!

Tchootnika · 29/08/2011 14:48

We can heal this, cat
How about a class action against those name stealing fuckers?
We may lose our identity along the way, but, you know, what doesn't kill you, and all...
I see us in a few years time in a Erin Brockovich-type blockbuster. I'll be played by Megan Fox, you by Timothy Spall.

usualsuspect · 29/08/2011 14:48

Bloody nora

Is this thread for real?

TryLikingClarity · 29/08/2011 14:48

Sit down with a nice cup of Brew OP, it might help you with the shock at this terrible thing.

If my 'best friend' didn't know the name of my 4 year old I'd be very much doubting the strength of our friendship.

I think your brother needs to accept that ship has sailed.

MigratingCoconuts · 29/08/2011 14:48

I bet OP is glad she asked...Grin

Tchootnika · 29/08/2011 14:50

One of my parents friends has rats called Morse and Lewis, then they had a DS and called him Lewis.

Ha!
When they sue name stealers, the case will be Re. Morse.
