Where I am (East Angular) it didn't rain between March and June. That's a pretty good Spring at the very least.

UserNameNotAvailable · 29/08/2011 11:24

I'm in the North East and it's been really crappy. We had a good few days in May, June and maybe 1 or 2 in July. Its been raining lots and its been quite heavy at times. I've spent the holidays dressed in my fleecey pj's and dressing gown ( I haven't been out in them though!)

We went to the beach one day and we had our winter coats on, it was freezing. I had to put the heating on this morning when I came down.

Its also getting dark quite early.

Like a pp said, the summer will begin 5th September - as soon as the kids go back to school. :o Fingers crossed anyway.

ibbydibby · 29/08/2011 11:36

Have just returned from 2 weeks hol in North East (Northumberland and N Yorks) and weather was much better than we anticipated, with only one day of continuous non-stop rain in 2 weeks. By contrast, in the part of East Anglia that I come from, there has been many more rainy days than usual.

I feel very sorry for holiday makers, when the weather is wet and cold, as you just end up spending more and more money. Just get irritated by people around me at home, who moan non-stop about the weather with children in their 20s (ie no bored kids at home to entertain). Have a friend like this!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/08/2011 11:40

true about the maps oakmaiden but it is hard to measure a good summer objectively as it is really a subjective thing - one persons roastingly gorgeous summer is another persons nightmare heatstroke summer.

And it does stop us southerners being able to say to those in eastern Scotland 'well look where you live, what do you expect' they can point to hard evidence and say 'well actually it was a spectacularly crap summer even for this region'

Meglet · 29/08/2011 11:45

oakmaiden 2003 was the best summer. Non stop heat and sunshine Smile.

MuddlingMackem · 29/08/2011 12:30

We're in NE England and I don't think the days have been that bad. The kids have spent most of the summer in shorts and t-shirts, but this weekend it has definitely started getting colder.

As far as the rain levels are concerned though, there has definitely been more rain than normal and, although there has probably been a week's worth of written off days so far, most of the rain has actually fallen through the night and/or in the early morning and then the day has been dry.

sjuperwolef · 29/08/2011 12:37

we have had days with the sun splitting the pavement then torrential rain within 5 mins of each other i have absolutely hated this summer .. we have had 2, maybe 3 days of pure scorching heat and the rest .. pphhht.

cant wait for autumn i hate summer more than any other season..

HeadfirstForHalos · 29/08/2011 16:24

YABU I'm in the west midlands and the weather has mostly been good! Most days the dc have been able to play out on their bikes/go to the park/play in the garden. I think we've had plenty of sun too.

AbsDuWolef · 29/08/2011 16:31

YANBU. It has been rubbish, but that's what British weather's all baout There's been a couple of nice days, but otherwise I didn't have high hopes for this summer as that leads to disappointment

But - IME September tends to be nice, so there is some (very minor) compensation.

sjuperwolef · 29/08/2011 16:48

my 6 yr old has even said when the suns been out ''oh look mum, nice weather, that makes a change for scotland eh?'' she is 6!

Linerunner - or the 'Is it being unseasonal?' board?

Has been quite a nice summer here (London) - just not at the weekends.

Pang · 29/08/2011 17:12

I guess we've been lucky in my part of the country. The weather has been fab. A bit too dry for my garden at times. Much better then last year.

missmalteser · 29/08/2011 17:24

NI has been dreadful this summer, we had a week at the end of April and practically the rest of it had been torrential rain, which is why Im actually looking forward to autumn, at least we'll be prepared for that and I'll not have to walk around with 5 layers on "just in case"

wigglybeezer · 29/08/2011 17:28

That tallies with my experience as, out of all my friends, the family who went to the Hebrides had the best weather (you should see their holiday photos, empty white beaches and azure water). That showed me, I had been feeling a bit smug about venturing down south ans escaping Scottish summer weather, we had a reasonable two weeks in west wales but did not get close to using up my store of sun cream.
South of France next year for us!

The weather this week has been better, dryish if a bit chilly, but then school is back...

CrosswordAddict · 29/08/2011 17:31

Have been so cold today. Cardigan and fleece and still cold.
I know I am "nesh" but it has been very windy here.
Have now admitted defeat and put heating on. DD1 was sitting with duvet around her knees! Need a couple of hours of warmth and television! Brew

seaweedhead · 29/08/2011 18:28

YANBU. I think the problem is we're presented with images of people frolicking in the sunshine, shops full of nothing but floaty dresses and bikinis etc. Then summer arrives and its a huge let down. It seems like the few hot days have been on days when I work (am pt) and then I'm sat in a stuffy office sweating.

Personally I can't wait for autumn- at least that's never a disappointment- you know exactly what you're getting- and I don't have to feel guilty about putting the heating on and cosying up in a big jumper instead of sitting round freezing in a dress and sandals. Such a shame autumn has to lead to winter though...

Mandy2003 · 29/08/2011 20:13

It's always nice in May/June. Except when I have been able to take DS on holiday then, when it is invariably foul. You never can tell what you will get in this country.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/08/2011 17:56

Met office just saying that provisionally, overall it has been the coolest Summer since 1993.
I guess it wasnt the right summer for us to choose to stay at home!

Dexifehatz · 31/08/2011 14:14

Just come back from Italy [35 degrees in the shade] and I am sitting on my radiator at the moment. Past two years have gone to Wales at the end of April and have suntanned. The weather is truly shite.
