Officially (and actually) I don't like the DM but I go on it when people link to the celeb stories and then there are all those little photos and stories down the right hand side about z-list celebrities 'Darren from TOWIE goes for a walk' 'Chris Moyles still up own arse' etc and I can't help keep clicking on them and before I know it I've been on there 30mins.

Thanks midnight.

Desdirata - I think I might know my own mind slightly better than you, and being a left leaning, hanky squeezing liberal, suspect my DM hatred is more likely to be down to that, than any particular media fashion de jour.

Desiderata · 24/08/2011 21:44

Really???

Well, I dress to the right, as you can guess.

I always love these DM tussles. You all read it. You all know you read it.

And then you feel dirty, lol ....

midnightexpress · 24/08/2011 21:45

Angfirsttimer, come here my pretty.

Wonder at lovely Nicole Ritchie's glossy ponytail! Coo over Pink's schweet baby! Consider how on earth Posh is going to make it through NY fashion week in flats without having a meltdown!

Rowena8482 · 24/08/2011 21:52

I have even been known to comment on articles on there and get irate when they then don't publish them because my comments are obviously superior to everyone elses and have even had the little "you upset Chav and Chavette from Chavtown with your comment and if you persist will be blocked from commenting further" email. Proudest day of my life almost! Took me YEARS to piss someone off to the extent they complained about what I'd said... I wouldn't care, it was a comment I think, they don't actually TELL you which comment it is that did it, but only one that was remotely controversial that week about a place that is normally renowned for the sense of humour of the residents and how easy going they are Hmm

TalkinPeace2 · 24/08/2011 21:58

I always go to it via google news - WILL NOT put DM into a search engine.
Love to Loathe it.
Will never buy it

Too fat / Too thin / Needs work done / Too much work done / Splitting up / Staying together / Love Kate / Envy Kate / Rabid / Rabid / Rabid

time to go check!

frownieface · 24/08/2011 21:58

OP I do this Blush wouldn't be caught dead reading the actual paper! However find myself on the website several once a day Grin

fluffywhitekittens · 24/08/2011 22:01

Oh, I thought it was just me :)
Also my in- laws (whispers) buy the paper and I read it when I am there.
Mainly to make scathing comments and hopefully point out to mil that all "news" articles should be taken with a hefty pinch of cynicism salt.

Humourme · 24/08/2011 22:28

I haven't bought a copy of DM since that awful article about Stephen Gately. I do pop over to the website almost daily but as time goes by there is less and less that is interesting - most of the stories are moronic tittle tattle in which I have no interest whatsoever. I occasionally click on the the more interesting news articles which might generate some amusing/controversial responses - my way of keeping in touch with public opinion:o I do agree the layout is good though which is part of the attraction - a quick scan and you can ascertain what you want to read in no time at all. It took about 10 seconds today; I thought "Not that Cardigan person again! Who the hell is she? Do I care enough to look? No. Hmm....let's have a look at the BBC....."

Desiderata · 24/08/2011 22:38

Is there some particular reason why you shouldn't trust a DM headline above a Guardian one?

Seriously, I'm rather interested.

Sl1nkyMalinki · 24/08/2011 22:39

Ah not just me then :)

Sadly I'm one of those who goes through it saying "who?!" or tutting about the appalling spelling/grammar, or just having an internal rant about the hypocrisy of it all. Still, keeps me awake when feeding the baby occupied at 3am Hmm

TalkinPeace2 · 24/08/2011 22:41

Desiderata
on the off chance that they are both covering the same story
the differences are hysterically funny
no matter what the subject they are poles apart
the truth is generally somewhere in between!

saadia · 25/08/2011 04:41

this is so funny....another one here who can't resist checking it out and wondering who on earth the Kardashians are and why people are in such awe of them.

milkmilklemonade · 25/08/2011 05:19

guilty. I love the leftie vegetarian comment!

TheBolter · 25/08/2011 07:45

Guilty as charged, even though it's a load of misogynist, weight-obsessed, typo-ridden shite.

PerryCombover · 25/08/2011 07:52

I need the Fail website otherwise I would have NO IDEA
Never seen TOWIE and thought that the Kardasians were in Star Trek. Now I still have no idea about the programs but can tell you every mouthful they have ever eaten

Mitmoo · 25/08/2011 07:58

The DM is great, the reporters are actually very smart if you analyse how they write and how they create a story, the hooks they use. I love the way they lead the reader to a frenzy and pop a sentence into the bottom of the article which often justifies the reasons behind the story.

DM stories should NEVER be taken at face value but they're great for discussion starters on forums.

During my degree we were told that the heavy weight writers would write for The Times but the top reporters would write for The Sun (different newspaper group but the analogy works just the same). It's a whole new skill set to write for papers like The Sun and The DM.
