Officially (and actually) I don't like the DM but I go on it when people link to the celeb stories and then there are all those little photos and stories down the right hand side about z-list celebrities 'Darren from TOWIE goes for a walk' 'Chris Moyles still up own arse' etc and I can't help keep clicking on them and before I know it I've been on there 30mins.

It's my dirty secret. I tell myself I look at it so I know what the enemy is doing.

midnightexpress · 24/08/2011 21:04

Oh YANBU. It's bloody awful. I have it bookmarked. Blush. My dirty secret. I loathe and detest everything the DM stands for and yet I am drawn to Katie Holmes' dead dead eyes, Violet and Seraphina Affleck's latest playdate and J Lo's cellulite like a moth to a flame.

Two things.

  1. There was a site called istyosty where you could link through to DM without registering as a hit to the DM site. The DM have closed it down.
  2. The DM is the second most widely-read online newspaper in the whole world after the New York Times.

Shame on us all.

ChrissasMissis · 24/08/2011 21:06

Nooooo - YANBU. Got me through my pregnancy. But could only look in secret in case my DP found out. The shame!

ChairOfTheBored · 24/08/2011 21:08

Oh thank the lord. This thread is like therapy. My name's ChairOfTheBoard, and I'm a Daily Mail website-adict. I like to think I go on there to 'red arrow' the lunatic comments on articles, but secretly I adore the celeb twaddle.

The shame.

FigsAndWine · 24/08/2011 21:10

God yes another ashamed one here.

I hate everything it stands for yet I am still drawn to the heady mixture of outrage-inducing-xenophobic-mysogynistic-hatred-filled-bile-(but-with-cute-fluffy-animals) like a delicate moth to a moon-mimicking inferno.

Blush Blush Blush Blush Blush

FigsAndWine · 24/08/2011 21:13

The awful thing is that I would never dream of buying, or even reading, a sleb magazing, yet I read this crap on the DM. I pride myself on never having clicked on a Kardashians story though, and I still don't know who they are.

CaveMum · 24/08/2011 21:14

Another addict here Blush

How gorgeous does Alyson Hannigan and her little girl look in today's article?! Can't believe she's 37, she always looks so young and stunning Envy

OneOfTheBoys · 24/08/2011 21:16

midnight, you are so right about Katie Holmes' eyes!

firsttimemama · 24/08/2011 21:18

Also guilty on all counts Blush

midnightexpress · 24/08/2011 21:21

Hands up who hasn't got a clue (except in the very vaguest way) who the following are:

Whitney Port
Danielle Lloyd
The Situation
The late (I infer) Russell Armstrong

And yet I still read it.

Am moron.

OneOfTheBoys · 24/08/2011 21:22

Just as I can resist tormenting a mouth ulcer, the DM gutter press is irresistible. Quite often do a mental tally of how many negative/anti women stories they are running on any one given day.

Btw, who are the Kardashians or whatever they are called?

midnightexpress · 24/08/2011 21:24

God knows. there are billions of them, aren't there?

Desiderata · 24/08/2011 21:25

You do make me larf. It's fashionable to detest the DM, and yet everyone reads it.

I make no secret of being a huge DM fan. We could run the country on the editorial alone ...

SaulGood · 24/08/2011 21:27

I do browse it occasionally when it's linked on here. I actually don't know who a lot of the people are. Kardashians for instance? Who? And I don't really know what TOWIE is either. I am always horrified by the pictures commenting on how fat/thin/spotty women in general are and shut the whole thing down in disgust. But I do linger long enough to be horrified, I'll admit it.

IgnoringTheChildren · 24/08/2011 21:29

It's not just me then! Not that I look everyday, in fact I haven't wasted any time on the DM site yet today... Mmm celeb twaddle on the DM site or some more aibu? Maybe there's time for both before bed? Grin

rathlin · 24/08/2011 21:29

Guilty - first thing I do when I get into work in the morning. Check it several times during the day. DH emails me and tells me to get off it and get on with some work.

midnightexpress · 24/08/2011 21:30

Oh desiderata, don't confuse my loathing of the DM's politics with my addiction to interest in the sleb twaddle.

I never ever read the news pages ffs.

And as for running the country on the DM editorial, surely David Cameron already is?

Desdirata Far be it from me to inject controversy into this thread, but I don't hate the DM because it's fashionable to, but because I find its editorial policy detestable, the quality of its journalism laughable and its employment of Liz Jones baffling.

And yet. Something draws me to the website, if only to enjoy sniggering at the comments.

I'm not proud of myself, and would gladly kick the habit, if I but had the self control.

Desiderata · 24/08/2011 21:36

Sorry, Chair, but you do hate it because it's fashionable.

You ladies do protest too much, methinks.

It's a fucking great newspaper.

Schnullerbacke · 24/08/2011 21:37

Thank you all, you have really made me laugh. Mostly because its soooo true. I am supposed to be studying and am late for an essay but what do I do? Keep re-turning to the bloody DM, just in case Will Smith has written in person about his marital problems (Jada with Mark Anthony? Please, give me a break).

Like the rest of you, too ashamed to admit to everyone else what I'm doing.

midnightexpress · 24/08/2011 21:38

WTF desiderata? What do you know about chair's political opinions?

angfirsttimer · 24/08/2011 21:39

You lot have made me look

I am now ashamed to say I will look again

There is a mobile version of the web page...... Please don't tell me if there is an app....

FigsAndWine · 24/08/2011 21:40

What Chair said.

Yersssssss Desi a 'fucking great newspaper' like the Screws of the World was.... or not. Hmm

GwenCooper · 24/08/2011 21:42

I am so so pleased to know I am not alone on this one. I do have to do it in secret though or DH may file for divorce Wink
