The items were a nail polish and a pot of coloured lip gloss.

Am I really that out of touch?

fake tattoos are horrid , my dd's love them

I used to use red smarties to make 'lipstick' and felt tips to make 'nail varnish' when I was that age, I also used to colour in my hair with crayons or felt tips!
I think it's fine to play with in the house, or for dressing up, but not to go to the shops with iyswim...

DD2 gets a terrible reaction on her skin to most things, so I wouldn't like it either. However, she does have a little set of make up and jewellery/hair dryer and stuff that is just plastic. So I guess I am not really that bothered about playacting. I let her have some of my lip balm or vaseline.

At her dancing show I cringed at all the slap on the girls from age 3! I relented with glittery hairspray and some lip balm that was pink (in the stick anyhow, not pink on). Actually, I think it looks creepy little girls with make up on... And it's not some high and mighty moral stance. I think it just looks nasty, a bit like layered, adult styled, artificially highlighted hair on little girls. It's just wrong. They look gorgeous just as they are.

yanbu - too much pressure on girls to worry about the way the look anyway. Why encourage it.

ChippingIn · 22/08/2011 21:20

It's not 'slap' - it's a little bit of lipgloss and nail polish. It's not exactly a bag full of make up womens make up. A little perspective perhaphs?
