A lovely aunty has said we can pick something - anything - to buy our gorgeous son up to the value of £100. We have all the basics so I suppose really it's ideas for a lovely extra for him. Any advice appreciated!

We had a hand crocheted blanket when we were little. Now it lives in mums dining room cupboard and is named 'poorly blanket' and comes out whenever anyone is ill. The 3 of us have left home now and we all want the poorly blanket so mum has to be caretaker [laugh]. Even adults need a blanket.

I agree with the book idea, I still have a set of Disney fairytale books given to me in the early 70's, one of them has a little message from my great aunt (i think they were a christening present).
They really are a treasured possesion & i have read them to my children.

With the change you can buy wine!

Aww a poorly blanket! I want one! Right Ergo looking like a serious contender. We have a cheap Chicco papoose thing from Home Bargains. Is it still worth investing in an Ergo?

Buy something that will still be around when he is 18 like books, premium bonds or perhaps even a print or painting that you like. some of my kids christening presents are like this and when they are from people who are no longer alive it makes it extra special for them.

Premium Bonds for me too. That said our 5 month old is the cutest thing ever in his jumperoo. They are only £66 from Amazon though so don't go giving their whole £100 to Mothercare. They also resell on ebay for about £50 so it's a good investment.

The cheap Chicco papoose thing from Home Bargains is shit compared to the Ergo. Although I have a Beco Butterfly which I personally think is nicer than the Ergo...

Ohnoredundo · 24/08/2011 06:11

Premium bonds and something special to keep are great ideas. Ooh what is this Beco Butterfly you talk about Pasch?

Another vote for an Ergo - it's the best thing I bought! There are other very similar carriers which are just as good, however Ergo also now do a waterproof cover which I love. I got mine when DS1 was 4 months and can still carry him in it now (he's 4) if he gets tired on a long walk! DS2 loves it too. :)
