A lovely aunty has said we can pick something - anything - to buy our gorgeous son up to the value of £100. We have all the basics so I suppose really it's ideas for a lovely extra for him. Any advice appreciated!

Buy a term or two of swimming lessons/ baby signing/ baby music classes etc?

twinklytroll · 21/08/2011 22:06

actually JS that is a good idea, I would get swimming lessons.

LittleMissFlustered · 21/08/2011 22:11

Premium Bond, something that has the potential to keep giving:)

Grumpla · 21/08/2011 22:16

Jumperoo!

Although swimming lessons would also be lovely & you could send cute swimming photos to her as a thankyou Smile

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/08/2011 22:18

I'd ask your aunty if you could buy him a lovely book with about ten pounds of it and then agree that savings or some professional photographs would be good things to do with the rest of it.

Portofino · 21/08/2011 22:19

I#d buy a decent high chair too.

biscuitmad · 21/08/2011 22:24

If your garden is a sun trap making it too hot to sit in. Then I would use it buy a gazebo.

Invest the money for baby's future buy using it to start a trust fund. Or do a premium bond.

Dont waste it. When my mil gives my ds money I wait till she goes home and put all the coins into his money box. Last time we used the money and got a travel carpark and he loved it.

a savings account.

stealthsquiggle · 21/08/2011 22:37

Premium bonds. definitely - she can get them for him if she would rather (wheras relations setting up savings accounts for DC is appallingly complicated).

ThePrincessRoyalFiggyrolls · 21/08/2011 22:39

Jumperoo is great - however it does have a lifespan! How about a family portrait?

Or furniture? don't dismiss it, my dd has something similar as given by a friend and uses it daily and will have it as an heirloom Grin

exoticfruits · 21/08/2011 22:48

Premium Bonds.

CardyMow · 21/08/2011 23:53

Jumparoo - I managed to get one second hand for £50 on Ebay. And then some board books if it's your first dc. It's never too early to get them looking at books. Or a nice set of Beatrix Potter books. Still have my set. Or if you're boring and skint practical like me, the next size up in clothes.

JessKM · 22/08/2011 00:13

pavlov what a beautiful idea! Remind me to do that next time my kids get birthday/xmas money! Thats a gift that could last years!

ThePrincessRoyalFiggyrolls · 22/08/2011 10:01

Also just to add about the chair, mine has a personal message on the bottom from my friend to my dd so she will always know who gave it to her. They are expensive however they are also very long lasting Grin if you don't go for the high chair! And don't get me wrong the jumperoo is fantastic but its life span is quite short really and it does take up a fair amount of space Smile. Pavlov's books idea is another great one, I still have my Beatrix Potter books given to me in a display case bookcase by my godmother. I revered those books as a small child, my children are allowed to look at it but not take them out on their own. (After my nephew decided that scribbling on one was a brilliant idea little shit Hmm)

smoggii · 22/08/2011 11:35

Another vote for Jumperoo - Our baby loved it but it is expensive

She decided she didn't want to go in it anymore at 7 mths (so 3 mths use) but if someone else wants to buy something for that money then definitely that's the thing.

You will probably get about £50 back if you sell it on which you can put towards a smart trike when they get to 7 months - this is what we did, she loves that now so it's the gift that keeps on giving!

Red2011 · 22/08/2011 11:38

I put all the money we were given for DD (now 7 months) into 2 savings a/cs. We did use some of it recently to buy a high chair and some clothes, but TBH she doesn't need much. Most stuff she has is hand-me-down or charity shop. Suits her (and my meagre budget) fine.

BTW, I bought our travel system on ebay: pram cum pushchair, car seat, carry cot, car seat attachment, rain cover & change bag - £50!

BsshBossh · 22/08/2011 11:41

At that age our DD loved her Jumperoo. I'd also put it in her child trust fund account.

usingapseudonym · 22/08/2011 12:38

I'd go for one of the expensive swimming lessons (Which I wouldnt do otherwise) and get the underwater picture..

OR equipment wise I'd definitely get an "ergo". Its an expensive sling/backpack carrier but it was worth its weight in gold when i had my daughter.

InfinityButNotBeyond · 22/08/2011 12:38

"large" garden toys- swing/slide/climbing frame/sand pit.

thebitchandherwomb · 22/08/2011 13:37

I'd invest in a luxury spa day for the child's mother so that she, feeling refreshed, rejuvenated and uplifted, can appreciate him even better than before. It's what any 4mo would want, no?

switchtvoffdosomelessboring · 22/08/2011 13:40

either that or buy a lovely pair of winter boots for his mum so that she can take him nice walks in his pram.

Ohnoredundo · 22/08/2011 20:23

Thanks for all the lovely, lovely suggestions. My fave so far is luxury spa! Books great idea as is Ergo (been on website and they look fab). We have a jumperoo but it's a bit of a shit one so may have to invest in a better one. Anyhow it's a nice problem to have in all this doom and gloom!

Another vote here for an Ergo carrier. I bought mine when dd1 was 18months and I'm sill using it with dd2 who is 2.5y. Its not only great for country walks, today I carrier dd2 round Asda as she climbs out of the trolley or screams when strapped in. She nodded off half way round so a lovely peacefull shop!
I found it more comfortable than the Karrimore framed one I tried and easier to get on by myself.
