to think actually it won't be such a bad thing if people are forced to put a jumper on instead of the heating this winter?

I know there are certain people who must have the means to keeps warm and unfortunately those are often the ones who least have those means Sad but for the rest of us is it really such a bad thing if a financial squeeze makes us think twice about putting on/turning up the heating?

I find I only ever wear proper winter clothes in my own home because everywhere else (shops/offices/friends' homes) is far too warm. Really wearing a jumper or two is fine.

i'm allergic to wool - cotton jumpers just don't work no matter how many I wear.

Maybe I should get pregnant again that kept me nice and warm, the only time I didn't feel cold in the winter was when pregnant.

CaptainNancy · 21/08/2011 21:31

You're right chestnut- the only time I'm ever warm is when I'm pg... not really worth the saving on the fuel bill though is it, to keep popping DC out! Grin

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 21/08/2011 21:32

When I were a lass we used to get dressed in bed. An' it were so cold the pee used t'freeze in t'chamber pot.

Sorry - I was transported back to my childhood then.

Chestnutx3 · 21/08/2011 21:32

Little children do keep you warm in bed as well, they do help for quite a few years I find, pity about the lack of sleep.

AnyFucker · 21/08/2011 21:34

I love my electric blanket, and no-one will dissaude me Smile

Paschaelina · 21/08/2011 21:35

I might use my jumpers as fuel in the stove because the wood is expensive. Anyone know how hot cashmere gets compared with supermarket polyester?

SuePurblybilt · 21/08/2011 21:36

I imagine they've come on a lot Anyfucker, this was a mid-90s Network Rail course and the video was early 80s Grin. I am sure you won't be a baked fucker.

BeatRoute · 21/08/2011 21:37

AnyFucker, I am totally looking forward to electric blanket time.

1st September?

LadyFlumpalot · 21/08/2011 21:37

Ha! My last house had no (I repeat no) working heating. We had to make do on two (pathetic) electric heaters in the winter.

During that first winter with snow when it arrived at the beginning of February, I woke up in the early hours to go to the loo. Wondered why it wouldn't flush. The cistern and the bowl were frozen solid.

Mind you, saying that, I lived there for 4 years and must have gotten used to it as now I live in a house with central heating I have it set to 16.5 and find that uncomfortably stuffy most of the time!

cjbartlett · 21/08/2011 21:38

oh op come back!! or are you too busy knitting jumpers?

AnyFucker · 21/08/2011 21:38

I don't wanna be a Baked Fucker

arrrggghhhh

Chummybud1 · 21/08/2011 21:39

I do think people take a lot of things from granted but also believe in Britain in this day and age people should not freeze in own home.

I have been in homes where kids are running around in nappies and the parents moaning about the eating and I think well put the heating off and gets kids dressed but then I think that no one in their own home should e Afraid to put heating on to keep wArm, I believe the elderly, those with serious I'll and those with young kids should be quarantined warm homes

DrCoconut · 21/08/2011 21:39

I love my electric blanket. My DH hates it. He is always warm even in the depths of winter. I'm usually cold. At the seaside I'm shivering in my cardi and rainproof (for reduction of windchill even if it's not raining!) while he's in T shirt and shorts moaning saying how hot it is. He actively likes being cold in bed, says there's nothing like icy cold sheets and the electric blanket ruins it. If I'm cold initially I find it hard to warm up and sleep. DS1 is like me and feels the cold. DS2 not sure yet! I think with poor heating I'd be really cold and miserable.

What about a Soupy Fucker? Or a Crispy Fucker? Slightly Scorched Fucker?

I am a jelus h8r of those who own electric blankets. I truly do have serious envy. But I cannot get the image of drip dripping through the ceiling out of my mind. Sure, I'd be toasty. But I'd never bloody sleep.

SuePurblybilt · 21/08/2011 21:40

Grin you won't . It was mostly very old people who combusted, you are young and fragrant. With an up to the minute leccy blanket.

Everything will be fiiiiiiiine.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 21/08/2011 21:42

See, the words 'toasty' and 'dripping' make me think of a toasted cheese sandwich. You know, how the filling oozes out of the sides....

CheeryCherry · 21/08/2011 21:43

We had a British gas engineer out this week - I asked if it was more economical to leave the heating on low all day even if we are out - the answer was a definate 'no' - it was a waste of heat/money, even if it has to crank back up again. I asked whether turning off a few radiators would be cheaper, again the answer was no. The advice given wa to cut down the number of hours it is on. But ours is only on 2 hrs on a morning, 3 on an evening.

BeatRoute · 21/08/2011 21:43

Mannn, you electric blanket haters are gonna be so sorry when you eventually try one for yourselves and realise what you've been missing out on for so long.

They come with timers and all sorts of shizzle to prevent death by drip-drip nowadays.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 21/08/2011 21:45

So you say, Beat. Until one day.....oozing....

AnyFucker · 21/08/2011 21:45

stop it !!!

fuckity, electric blankets are not expensive

put oneo on your Xmas list

you won't regret it, I promise ya

SuePurblybilt · 21/08/2011 21:45

Death by drip drip Grin

I am not a hater. If I could afford to buy or run one, I probably would. Until then I am using children and dogs, that undoubtably will kill me first.

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 21/08/2011 21:46

No chance fucker. I torture my dp with 3 duvets as it is. An electric one as well would be mroe than grounds for separation. I refuse to let him open the window while we sleep too. People might get in you see.

AnyFucker · 21/08/2011 21:47

mine is super duper

it is a bi-manual one ie. I get my half, DH does what he wants with his half (he barely uses his, and mine is on most nights)

timers, thermostats, machine washable jobbies

'tis the future Grin

for a hundred quid....Xmas money will cover that.....months of benefit, I tell ya
