Really how bad an example are they to kids? Oh no a dog has appeared on my doorstep therefore someone must need help so I better call fireman Sam. Or I dropped my keys down a drain I need to call the emergency services. WTF? And exactly how thick are the kids? Especially Norman, though the adults aren't much better. It actually makes me a little bit ragey. Unfortunately ds loves it. So aibu? Imdont think I am.

We only have a few of the originals on video and they are enough to do my head in. YANBU !

thatsenough · 20/08/2011 20:26

Also a fan of the Elvis in a wheelchair episode!

DH is a fireman and watches with horror as our 3 boys sit transfixed!

CurlyBoy · 20/08/2011 20:34

I think Nanny Plum is the best part of Ben and Holly! She adds the bit of adult sarcasm that makes the whole show watchable!

Birnamwood · 20/08/2011 21:06

We like Fireman Sam in this house (the older series, not seen the newer version) but I will not entertain Zingfuckingzillas or the bastardtweenies. Even DS turns the tv over when they come on.

Don't get me started on baby jake..........although, I'm 41+3 so maybe a bit of anger might get things started

giraffesCantChaChaCha · 20/08/2011 21:07

YANBU.

Same with Balamory though. "oh dear I have lost my shoe I must go to the police"

TheInvisiblePenguin · 20/08/2011 21:12

Elvis rescued Stn Officer Steele from the railings whilst he was in a wheelchair he is a fabulous fireman.

back away from Fireman Sam and observe the cheap horror that is bananas in fucking pyjamas. I can't even say the title without swearing in the middle. those self-righteous teddy bears

WillowFae · 20/08/2011 21:30

I spotted this on twitter during the riots.

Fire brigade called out to tackle #ukriots fires in Pontypandy, Wales. Spokesman Sam Tân pinpoints blaze on local youth Norman

:D

He should at least have an asbo by now!

Marne · 20/08/2011 21:33

Norman should have been issued with a ASBO a long time ago, but on the other hand, if it wasn't for him fireman sam would be out of a job Grin.

IsSamNormansDad · 20/08/2011 21:37

YANBU.
DS (3.6) is obsessed. Our local mountain is called Pontypandy mountain apparently (its not, its Bennachie) and we visited the fucking Pontypandy museum when we took him to NMS in Edinburgh!
On the upside, he is vv careful around cookers and ovens 'in case a fire starts' and its very cute when his wee figures need to go to an 'emergenseat' Grin

IsSamNormansDad · 20/08/2011 21:37

Meant to add that Fireman Sam et al drive me fricking mental!!

CinnabarRed · 20/08/2011 22:01

We also subscribe to the Norman-son-of-Sam theory in our house. After all, you never hear any mention of a Mr Price, do you?

I quite like that Firefighter Penny is so capable.

queenmaeve · 21/08/2011 13:15

There always seems to be quite a bit of flirting between station officer steele and dylis. Perhaps she was at it with both sam and him (not at the same time it is a childrens show) and is unsure of who is the father.
The could all go on Jeremy Kyle
'My unknown father Lived a mile from me my whole life and watched me go to wreck and ruin'
Dna tests live with sam and station officer steele

Rowena8482 · 21/08/2011 15:50

But Dilys is in love with shamelessly lusts after Trevor the bus driver!

CinnabarRed · 21/08/2011 20:54

No, Trevor is in love with Dilys but she's not interested. Carrying a flame for Sam, I reckon.

Hassled · 21/08/2011 21:02

I saw the "new" Fireman Sam with horror. Back in the old days it was all narrated by John Someone and was oldie-stylee, and a work of genius. I still laugh to myself at Bella Lasagne. Wiki tells me that 2003 was when it all changed and became stop motion animation/multiple voices.

Trevor and Dilys had it going on back in 1990.

Huffythetantrumslayer · 21/08/2011 21:19

No Dilys was definitely fluttering her eyelashes at Trevor the other day. This is the new version though. Norman should get locked up not just an asbo. It drives me potty

PfftTheMagicDraco · 21/08/2011 21:22

Why do they wear their uniforms ALL THE TIME?

The nurse moron went hiking with the female firefighter moron the other day, and they were both wearing full work gear!

I didn't know which would be worse!!!

MrsHicks · 21/08/2011 21:24

YANBU, but Fireman Sam on my phone works wonders on train journeys so I can't hate him too much. Better that than Peppa Pig.

Rowena8482 · 21/08/2011 21:35

I quite like Peppa Pig, but that's because I have a sad, weird, unmentionable bit of a thing for Andy Hamilton Blush

EdnaKrabappel · 21/08/2011 21:35

I think that there are in fact only 5 episodes of Fireman Sam? (or at least only 5 that Cartoonito seemingly shows back to back)

1 the one where Norman glues himself to his bedroom door handle but alas is saved from his bedroom
2 the one where Mike leaves a tea towel on the hob
3 the one where Norman & Trevor have a stand off over sat-nav / fire under the bonnet
4 the one where that wimpy twin gets his foot a bit stuck under a rock*
5 every other one where Norman sets fire to something.

  • why does the twins' mother wear a shawl around her waist the whole time? does she not realise this will just make her arse & hips look bigger??
Rowena8482 · 21/08/2011 21:36

And theone where Kitty Kitty King of the Jungle gets stuck down the well... and the one with the Lucky Bucket... okay shoot me now!

EdnaKrabappel · 21/08/2011 21:40

was going to say I don't think I've seen the one with the Lucky Bucket but chances are I had fallen into a catatonic state at the time.

wouldn't it send a better message if Norman died horribly in a fire that he started? if a little harsh for the pre-school audience? Grin

Oblomov · 21/08/2011 22:46

Fireman Sam is o.k with me. ds2 (3) loves it. Ds1(7) was never that interested in it. It is o.k with me.

BikeRunSki · 21/08/2011 22:53

DS (3 next month) loves Fireman Sam, I quite like him too, ASBO Norman gets the blame for everything in this house.

NunTheWiser · 22/08/2011 04:43

The new CGI Fireman Sam is an abomination and makes my eyeballs itch. Why do all the characters (especially the kids and Dilys) have to screech all the time.
The old series with Dilys being "putrefied" and telling Bella not to get "historical" was comedic genius. It's been ruined. DS loves Fireman Sam so I have to watch it over and over and over and over...
