A year ago I bought a set of very nice wine glasses a bit like these from Laura Ashley...I got them on sale and tbh because I don't even DRINK wine, I thought it was nice of me as DH had no decent glasses to have wine and he likes it.

DH thinks I'm an oik because "You just don't drink wine from a red glass" apparently Hmm

He says that to see the colour of the wine is part of the "experience" of drinking it.

He's a fecking wine snob...he'l sit there discussing the stuff with his parents and it annoys me.

So. Am I an unclutured oik? Eh? Am I? AIBU to buy red wine glasses?

My favourite glasses at the moment for everyday use are these from Sainsbury's.

They are heavy and robust, feel good quality, and the drinking rim is just the right thickness. They are perfect for any drink, from coke to G&T to beer, etc, not just wine. We love 'em.

MumblingRagDoll · 19/08/2011 21:41

Thanks for the links! However I won't be spending 50 nicker on an "eronomic Swirling Glass" Grin

But fellatio's Sainsbo's ones are nice!

Pffffft. Slosh wine into nearest container and drink it (obviously drinking from the bottle is a bridge too far...). I have been known to use a jam jar. Although it was a clear jam jar; I'm not a total savage...

VictorGollancz · 19/08/2011 21:43

You could cut plastic water bottles in half and present your DH with a delicately poured 'glassful'. They are CLEAR, after all.

strictlovingmum · 19/08/2011 21:44

fellatio's really cool glasses, I will order them tonight, thanks.

SunnilyEnough · 19/08/2011 21:46

There are cheaper ones! You could get him one or two for his next birthday or for Christmas :)

TiggyD · 19/08/2011 21:46

You didn't buy wine glasses. What you bought were Sodastream glasses. Big difference.

SunnilyEnough · 19/08/2011 21:48

Some bargains here too

TrillianAstra · 19/08/2011 21:53

You can drink wine from whatever glass you fucking well like.

That glass is shaped like a wine glass so what is the problem? You can't do super-in-depth analysis on the colour (which I accept is a part of wine tasting) but you can drink wine from it perfectly well.

GeraldineAubergine · 19/08/2011 21:57

I once drank port and brandy out of a gravy boat and I defy any fucker that says I aren't cultured so there. I like the glasses and they would surely give an air of Transylvanian mystique to any formal gathering.

MumblingRagDoll · 19/08/2011 22:00

Look! I'll get him some of these!

or these!

Hassled · 19/08/2011 22:04

Transylvanian mystique is what my dinner parties have been lacking all these years, and it's because I didn't know about red glasses. It's no wonder I'm a social outcast.

Geraldine is quite right.

Hassled · 19/08/2011 22:05

Mumbling - you've upped your game. The second lot are Class Personified.

FellatioNelson · 19/08/2011 22:07

Arf at 'I aren't cultured'

Conflugenglugen · 19/08/2011 22:07

Trillian - exactly. Do whatever the fuck you like.

FellatioNelson · 19/08/2011 22:09

I'm pissing myself at those glasses Grin

FellatioNelson · 19/08/2011 22:09

I actually want to buy those lady ones for my friend, she'd love them.

GeraldineAubergine · 19/08/2011 22:11

I tell you what, droves of people demand invites for my lurid, gaudy crockery bestrewn shindigs. I'm beating them of with an unmentionably smeared stick. Cultured is not really the word.

Kladdkaka · 19/08/2011 22:15

Next time just give him the bottle and a straw.

kiki22 · 19/08/2011 22:17

he's being a snob, give him a pint glass if he wants to see it, better yet tell him to drink pints like a real man just for a giggle :)

Bestb411pm · 19/08/2011 22:23

kiki22 I found the perfect solution for your suggestion

The poshest people I know; seriously she?s related to royalty and not in the ?my aunts BF shagged the duchess of Kent?s 2nd housemaids sister?, proper real royalty. And they live in his family house that?s they can trace back to being in the family to the 1600?s

Anyway as well as having a wine cellar, swoon, they drink wine out of these

Am too pissed to do links

Smellslikecatpee · 19/08/2011 22:30

Posted too soon, been in the cellar Grin

what I was trying to say is if they'll drink out of them boo sucks to your DH.

GeraldineAubergine · 19/08/2011 22:33

You can fit a whole bottle of wine in a vase, which saves having to fill it with expensive flowers and negates the need for fashionably coloured glassware.
