to think that this site should be called Parentsnet?

If it's a site 'By parents for parents', isn't Mumsnet a little sexist? We've all seen how members here react to any sort of anti women agenda so is this seen as acceptable because it's anti dads?

OP posts:

There already is a dadsnet and other parenting sites aimed at dads. They don't they get women turning up whining about the name.
Why don't you just go there OP?

TheMagnificentBathykolpian · 19/08/2011 21:18

It would not be a good business decision to change the name of a brand they have been building for years.

And for what? we already know it's just called mumsnet, but actually anyone and everyone can and does chat on here about everything under the sun.

Only the hard of thinking would require the brand to change its name so that they can understand they're allowed to be on there.

mothercare - whoops, can't go buy from them, I'm a father. It's a bit unfair that they call it mothercare, what about the dads that want to buy something there? Let's rename it Parentcare.

Why don't we call it WineNet since lots of us drink wine.

Or CoffeeNet

Or LetmeplayonthecomputerinpeaceNet (perhaps with subsection Herehavesomechocolatebuttons)

TheMagnificentBathykolpian · 19/08/2011 21:18

or Whinenet ...

Maybe WhineWithWineNet

Honeydragon · 19/08/2011 21:20

Mme it would be discriminatory against me so it would have to be

Wine(exceptnotforHoneydragonasshedoesn'tdrinkitbutshecanstay)net

cjbartlett · 19/08/2011 21:25

It's called mumsnet because it was set up by 3 mums
Why should they call their site anything else

Not even that...there are quite a lot of women (and men?) here who aren't even parents. I thought CuntNet might work but the few Menz may be insulted (though technically a cock is just a clit with ideas above its station).

BumsNet has a ring....

MissVerinder · 19/08/2011 21:44

Ooh I kind of agree but only in a half-assed way. Just asked DH what he thought and he said he did think Mumsnet should be called Parentsnet because it was sexist. Then I asked if he would post on Mumsnet if it was called Parentsnet and he said 'Probably not. Unless it has a mountain biking section. Does it have a mountain bike section?'. Then he went to his shed to fondle his bike.

So maybe more inclusive language would be a good thing, but it might not make any difference to who used the site.

(Should point out DH took the same length parental leave as me, and works the same part-time hours as me now so we are both equally hands-on parents with equally strong opinions to spout on bollocks we know nothing about.).

ChaoticAngeloftheUnderworld · 19/08/2011 22:32

Parentsnet

giyadas · 19/08/2011 22:49

and that's the definitive answer. Chaotic wins!! Grin
So we won't see a thread like this again?
