Marks and Bastard Spencer have RUINED ds2's birthday

Greensleeves · 18/08/2011 15:24

ds2's birthday tomorrow, he's 7

it will be the first birthday dh has ever been away, so I have busted a gut to make it special for him

I ordered something off M&S online which he really, really wants and opted for the extra charge to have it delivered today, in time to be wrapped etc

They said the payment wouldn't go through, there was a problem with the card etc, I put it through over and over again

eventually dh phoned them, from Brazil, and gave all the details over the phone and double-checked with the woman that it had gone through and would still be delivered today, 18th August

so I rang up customer services today to ask if they had an approximate time as I have to take ds1 out to a party later

they said it hadn't gone through and was marked as not paid for

eventually after more schenanigans it turned out that it was because our visa debit card is a co-op bank card - they accept visa debit cards but not visa electron (which ours isn't) - apparently, this woman laughingly told me, the first four digits of the co-op cards are the same as electron cards, so they don't work! nobody asked dh whether it was a co-op card ffs

so the present isn't paid for and won't be arriving after all

I know it sounds trivial but I am SO upset, it has been a tough two weeks without dh here anyway and I really thought I had done a good job of making his birthday lovely Sad

BASTARDS

Oh that sucks :( Theres still time to go and get something in person, could you or a friend or family nip out and get something? Even if it isn't the right thing it will help ease any disappointment

WideWebWitch · 18/08/2011 15:58

Pmsl at "lying, deluded or Amish"

ThePosieParker · 18/08/2011 15:59

Phone ahead woman!!! Make sure they've at least got it before you go!!

SuePurblybilt · 18/08/2011 15:59

Get M&S customer services to ring your local store and reserve whatever it is, save you going on the off chance.

ruddynorah · 18/08/2011 15:59

Greensleeves ring the store first to put the items aside.

Greensleeves · 18/08/2011 16:00

it is only M&S that sell it

don't want to post what it is as it will be ripped apart as a crap present by all the freaky weirdos who drift along for a gloat whenever something goes wrong for someone - I am so ENTITLED, wanting to give my ds a birthday present I ordered and paid courier charges for Hmm

No defiantly not deluded or Amish. Haha. I however wouldn't get so worked up over a specific present. I never called your child spoilt and I do believe a 7 yr old has the capability to understand that. Their has been a mix up. But there are other solutions. My children have received presents after their birthdays before. And it has honestly never ruined a birthday.

OP - so many people have asked what the item is and if they could help you source it elsewhere/pick one up for you...

...and yet you haven't responded, just continued ranting!

switchtvoffdosomelessboring · 18/08/2011 16:01

Come on greensleeves what does he want? Why are you not telling us? Is it a Barbie and you think we will all laugh? Come on tell us, the suspense is killing me!

notbothered · 18/08/2011 16:02

honey Grin you in my head

Greensleeves · 18/08/2011 16:02

sorry Mandy

I am in a flap and not being very practical

I am off out to M&S now, willl phone them from the bus and if they haven't got it I will get something else.

Cheers.

Good luck with finding the replacement present, Greeny.

switchtvoffdosomelessboring · 18/08/2011 16:04

I think the 'sons birthday pressie' is a guise. Greensleeves has really ordered this and is hoping to show it of to her hubby when he gets home.

"you're either lying, deluded or Amish"

this made me Grin

Blatherskite · 18/08/2011 16:05

Why not DM someone from the thread you trust Greeny? I'm sure they'd be happy to check online for you and make sure you're not going on a wild goose chase.

stressheaderic · 18/08/2011 16:05

Forget all the other shit, I just want to know what the damn thing was now.

notbothered · 18/08/2011 16:06

green err you didn't pay.... btw skirt is lovely switch (off to m&s)

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 18/08/2011 16:07

I know it's the last thing you needed, but as you're going to Marks you might want to run through your list and check that you've got everything else you need. I always remember candles but forget matches.

honeymom · 18/08/2011 16:07

Grinis a smug freakish weirdo. Grin. I just live it when people realise they are in the wrong so can only resort to name calling as a defence.

slinkyboo · 18/08/2011 16:07

I can totally understand your reaction, Greensleeves, and I hope you manage to get the present. It IS disappointing when you put so much effort into ordering it to be delivered on time. M&S have been rubbish.

I don't understand the 'oneupmanship' on here sometimes (stop your self-indulgent whinging and be thankful you are not being slowly murdered, etc), or the gloating. Some people are just out for a fight but then again this is AIBU...I imagine OP would have got 100% helpful responses had she posted in chat, maybe.
