To not agree with all the Mens Rights Activists who troll around the feminist section pretending to be regular posters?

And start stupid threads pretending to want to enter into real debate when all they want to do is post endless reams of dull shite?

some, it's an open forum but it's also against the rules to troll.

A troll isn't someone who disagrees with you, or who holds views you think are abhorrent. It's someone who is deliberately trying to wind you up for the sake of it, and/or assuming a false identity. The openness of the forum has no bearing on that.

Mitmoo · 18/08/2011 10:41

I don't think the F4F if that is who they are posters are trolls. They just want to let mums know we can't have it all our own way. Even if they are wrong (sniggers).

SardineQueen · 18/08/2011 10:45

somewherewest MNHQ ban trolls. They do do something about them.

SardineQueen · 18/08/2011 10:46

What LRD said which is why I asked if you knew what a troll was. A troll isn;t someone who disagrees with you, or even with the majority. Look how long DP was on with her vile opinions until she finally got done for "proper" trolling.

LRDTheFeministDragon · 18/08/2011 10:54

I think with DP it was something else again - HQ felt her views were so abhorrent they were concerned about legal action. There's a point at which it becomes a crime I understand - inciting racial hatred.

I don't know if the same would apply if someone posted violently offensive things about women repeatedly, but I don't think that is the issue with most of these trolls. They are mostly just trying to wear people down with constant insults or to pretend they're interested in 'discussion' but actually laughing on their facebook thread about how they're getting to us. That's trolling, I'm sure. I hope they can be banned soon; I'm tired of it and it makes me sad.

HerBeX · 18/08/2011 11:01

I think it's beyond simple trolling actually, it's activism.

Well, given that any poster who disagrees with the MN Feminists is usually labelled as a Troll, MRA etc etc anyway its probably even harder to tell which is which.

A more interesting question IMO is why so many people outside MN feel moved to trawl and troll it.

justforaminute · 18/08/2011 11:04

yep-i get this feeling HerBex.

LRDTheFeministDragon · 18/08/2011 11:05

I disagree (sorry!). Activism suggests it's a genuine cause. I don't think it is. It may be these people have genuine, strong views against feminism or against women, but their primary presence on this site is just trolling. They're not honest about it; they're trying to throw a spanner in the works. I don't want to dignify it with a term that can be used to describe people honestly fighting for something they believe in.

Feminism provokes stong reactions. If you don't like the discussions then stay away from that section. That's what I mostly do. There are plenty of 'feminist' discussions on the main board, always have been, and I think it's a shame actually HQ went with the feminist section at all. It has certainly introduced a certain woman hating dynamic.

justforaminute · 18/08/2011 11:07

oh i think that they think they are genuine LRD.

sparky

LRDTheFeministDragon · 18/08/2011 11:07

whatme - come on, that question has been asked by you and answered to you so many times! Are you hoping if you keep asking it we'll all suddenly give up and agree it must be our fault because we're too shouty and feminist for you?

As has (also) been said before - no, people who disagree with teh feminists are not all called those things. I disagree with feminists on a regular basis (tethers has particularly awful dress sense, you know),. Never been called an MRA.

yanbu, it's just so utterly tedious. Surely they have somewhere they can go to talk amongst themselves. I suppose it's fun for them to troll but that makes for a pretty sad life I think.

LRDTheFeministDragon · 18/08/2011 11:08

namefor - I find it strange you think feminism introduced a woman-hating dynamic?! Confused

AuntieMonica · 18/08/2011 11:09

i'm not sure it's feminism in particular they are against. the fb group is pretty clear who their targets are.

it put me off posting for a while, but you know what? they don't even represent 'real' patriarchy, so how can they try to silence me?

Whatmeworry · 18/08/2011 11:10

Prolesworth I know two pretty extreme feminists who write pretty heavy duty Feminist newsblogs, and they are well trafficked, and they don't get anything like the trawling MN gets.

No one is setting up Facebook pages and Twitterstreams to trash them. There is definitely another dynamic at work here.

namefortheday · 18/08/2011 11:11

LRD - don't wilfully misunderstand me please. The existence of the section has provoked a reaction and introduced to mumsnet a woman-hating dynamic that wasn't there before presumably because all the MCP's thought we just baked cakes and gave birth.

LRDTheFeministDragon · 18/08/2011 11:11

Oops, sorry proles, sparky - I didn't meant to ignore you.

I don't think they are genuine because they do not come straight out with their agenda, or only in order to disrupt existing threads. They may well genuinely hate women, or genuinely disagree with feminism, but what they're doing on here isn't 'activism' to get people to agree with them or to strike at the root causes of feminism - it's to annoy us and laugh about it. That is not activism.

justforaminute · 18/08/2011 11:11

LRD-what do you mean?[11.08]

LRDTheFeministDragon · 18/08/2011 11:12

Whew, thanks for explaining namefor, sorry I misunderstood! I take your point.

namefortheday · 18/08/2011 11:13

Oh ok then Smile
