...having an excessive sense of entitlement?

JaneBennet · 14/08/2011 11:32

OP, why are you outraged? I don't think I understand, is it because Boris Johnson comes from a privileged background so shouldn't be allowed to comment on anyone with less money?

Anniegetyourgun · 14/08/2011 11:33

Tony Benn had pots of money and plenty of views on people with less. He may have been barkin' (opinions differ widely), but at least he noticed that not everyone with less money than he had was naughty. And he even had a title, so there.

Callisto · 14/08/2011 11:35

I don't think Cameron is a fraud. He has never tried to hide his background or his personal fortune.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 14/08/2011 11:36

YABU... everyone's entitled to free speech, regardless of their background.

CurrySpice · 14/08/2011 11:38

I gave Tony Benn a lift once from Kings Cross to Wimbledon in my beige Fiat Panda

carminagoesprimal · 14/08/2011 11:41

Come on scottishmummy - we all know it's ok to be a rich privileged lefty, droning on about how terrible it is for the poor disadvantaged from the comfort of their 10 million pound house in the Cotswolds ( children all at private school of course )
it's only a crime being rich if you're a Tory - keep up.

CurrySpice · 14/08/2011 11:41

Is it Tony Benn or the beige Fiat Panda that impressed you most Annie? Wink

Anniegetyourgun · 14/08/2011 11:44

Actually I don't know whether I'm more impressed at you giving him a lift, or him either needing or accepting one in a Fiat Panda. Not just any Fiat Panda even, but a beige one. Absolutely no irony intended; it's just so great, somehow.

CurrySpice · 14/08/2011 11:45

The best bit is that I was taking him to a miners' rally in Wimbledon because SW19 is a well-known mining community Hmm

seeker · 14/08/2011 11:47

I have no problem with him being rich or a Tory or expressing his opinions. It is this particular opinion that I am objecting to. The upper classes in this country take a sense of entitlement to a whole new level- criticising another social class in this way is a textbook case of pots calling kettles black!

OP posts:
scottishmummy · 14/08/2011 11:52

thats lot of words,minimal content
so iyo, being loaded means cant comment globally?so only incisive comments are the disaffected?riots did not affect me at all .dont live in affected areas.but hell i have an opinion on it

carminagoesprimal · 14/08/2011 11:56

Yes but seeker - if poor people want to revolt against tyranny they should be protesting outside government buildings - not robbing Foot Locker and JD Sports - it kinda detracts from their cause -

Bonsoir · 14/08/2011 11:57

The fraudulent one is Nick Clegg; neither Cameron nor Boris J pretend to be anything other than who and what they are. Boris has a very different job to the PM and the deputy PM and is much closer to the ground, by definition. Which might make him appear more "in touch", but I don't think that is more than the different natures of the jobs.

crazynanna · 14/08/2011 11:58

Free country...he can say what he likes.
Still doesn't change the fact that he is a bumbling plank.

Bonsoir · 14/08/2011 11:58

I have a lot of sympathy for the looters and their choice of revolt...

catgirl1976 · 14/08/2011 12:04

Bonsoir I think "shopping with violence" has been the best descrption of the looting, not "revolt". Revolt sounds like it was motivated by something other than greed and opportunism. Which it wasn't.

Bonsoir · 14/08/2011 12:06

Why shouldn't everyone get a chance at greed and opportunism, rather than reserving that privilege for bankers and politicians-- the self-styled ruling classes?

SoupDragon · 14/08/2011 12:07

You have sympathy for the looters? Personally, I have sympathy for their innocent victims.

tethersend · 14/08/2011 12:07

OP, YANBU. At all.

He comes from a very rich background, went to Eton and Oxford, and is criticising people on benefits for having a 'sense of entitlement'.

If you can't see anything wrong with this, you are barmy.

In fact, you can be Boris' number one fan, and still see the hypocrisy in this comment.

catgirl1976 · 14/08/2011 12:09

Yup. Bankers and politians just get handed those jobs. They don't have to work for them at all.

And one person behaving illegally / unethically means its ok for someone else to do it.

Nancy66 · 14/08/2011 12:10

Raises hand - i can't see the hypocrisy of the comment.

Bonsoir · 14/08/2011 12:12

No, they don't get handed those jobs - they grab them and the larceny that goes on among the élite is extraordinary. No wonder others end up following their example.

edam · 14/08/2011 12:12

Wasn't Boris a member of the Bullingdon Club at university? That lot of posh yobs who enjoyed smashing up restaurants but got away with it because they could afford to pay for the damage they caused, and their Daddies were rich and powerful?

scottishmummy · 14/08/2011 12:13

increased opportunities and challenging class expectations and know your place is a good start helping and encouraging people from poorer backgrounds into employment and education

and cleggy and cameron do annoy me.more so clegg.the media schmoozing and faux ordinariness
