I've started going to an adult swim on a week night and DP doesn't want me to wear a bikini as he thinks its asking for to much attention. I honestly cant see the problem in it, its just swimwear, right?

I dont see the problem in wearing it cos i feel good in it, i wear pretty skirts and tops cos i feel good in them...is there a problem in that?
If DP wanted to wear tiny speedo's i wouldnt have a problem with that, he can wear what he wants.
seems everyones pretty divided on the whole bikini issue, think i'll stick to wearing it for now :)

Good on you OP!

You need to draw the line at Budgie Smugglers though...or at least use a different pool to him Shock Grin

"everyone's pretty divided on the whole bikini issue" - yes, it's a thread of two halves.

I swim lengths and lengths on holiday (sad I know) and Ive never found a bikini impractical for that. Although I did once jump into a pool in a strapless bikini and lose my top Blush
also us taller ladies can find swimsuits less practical because if you're long in the body the 'undercarriage' effect can be rather uncomfortable/unfortunate iyswim
Shock
OP nothing wrong with knowing that you look good in a bikini, if I were your DP I'd feel proud not possessive. My DH loves it when I wear a bikini, sadly this may now be past tense as am 19 weeks preg and fear things will never be the same again....

I have always worn a bikini and also thru all my pregnancy's. I have however just bought my first ever 1 piece this summer following my 5th baby which seems to have been the straw that broke the proverbial camels back Grin I am 43 and up till now was very happy in a bikini.
You go girl,it wont be long till you are like me haha

tyler80 · 13/08/2011 21:58

I don't wear a bikini to the pool anywhere other than on holiday. Purely practical reasons though, nothing to do with modesty, bikini bottoms slip down every time I push off from the wall, very annoying.

Plenty of size 10 and under where I swim but everyone is still in one-pieces, I'm pretty sure it's just because they're impractical rather than they're all ashamed of their bodies.

BimboNo5 · 13/08/2011 22:05

You want to look good? You will be under water most of the time will you not?

porcamiseria · 13/08/2011 23:08

hmm, its a but showy offy to wear a bikini to a normal UK pool, might look like you are on the pull!

ameliameerkat · 13/08/2011 23:13

I wear a sports style bikini to swim in just because I find it more comfortable to swim in than a swimsuit. I wouldn't swim in a 'holiday' style bikini mainly as I'd fall out of it! But you should be able to wear whatever you want to, ignore your DP.

Spuddybean · 13/08/2011 23:46

i'm tall and find one pieces a bit tight on the under carriage and being broad round the back they are quite tight.

i find a string bikini more comfy (adjustable) so always wear one at the pool. in fact all the women at the pool i go to wear bikinis. i don't think i have owned full swim costume since i was 15. i'm very small busted so i need no real support.

never thought about it other than what is nice to swim in.

bringmesunshine2009 · 14/08/2011 01:22

Envy post natal body mean bikini is dream of yesteryear. Stretchies (thanks DS2) baggy tummy (thanks chocolate digestives) mean a cozzie is the only way for me. Boden retro one dontchaknow.

Good on you OP wear your bikini with pride for those of us who can't our never could! Just not to my local pool or I will vom with jealousy!

organicgardener · 14/08/2011 01:27

Your body and your bikini.

And...

YOUR choice.

iscream · 14/08/2011 06:23

What kind of swimming class is it?
It may be different there, but in my city, swim classes people usually wear one pieces, tankini's or swim shorts over a suit.

Conchita · 14/08/2011 08:00

natandjacob yes it's my first baby but I'm 33 so don't know how springy-back my skin is going to be- is there any hope anyone?

natandjacob · 14/08/2011 08:43

hahaaa yes there is hope! things will never be the same again but they shouldn't be to bad. just dont forget the kegal floor exercises or you'll end up taking half the pool home with you!
