to wear this to a wedding?

DHs cousin is getting married and I was excited when I found this dress, which I love:
www.asos.com/ASOS/ASOS-Wrap-Dress-with-Ruched-Front/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=1644719&SearchQuery=red%20wrap%20dress&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=20&sort=-1&clr=Riored

However, since buying it I've heard that some people disapprove of guests wearing red at weddings. AIBU to wear it?

I think it's a lovely dress, but not for a wedding - sorry

MrsGravy · 11/08/2011 10:38

In fairness, I'm not sure why I'm giving fashion advice, I'm a 35 year old slummy mummy who lives in Tesco jeans and primark tops.

If it comes down to your knees it probably doesn't look quite as vampy...it's the legs plus cleavage that make me think it's maybe a bit too much for a wedding.

CurrySpice · 11/08/2011 10:39

I agree MrsGravy - you can either do tits or legs imho

honeyandsalt · 11/08/2011 10:44

mrsgravy - are you conflating the OP and kathy? The latter hasn't linked to her outfit.

kathy - length sounds fine but might I suggest a jacket or shrug? Grin To be fair it really depends how laid-back everyone is about you, my brother's MIL was absolutely vile to my bro's poor ex at his wedding, but she's quite, erm, opinionated anyway. I'd go for a messy bun, demure courts, natural makeup and (most importantly) if you have a +1 your best accessory will be a man.

KathyImLost · 11/08/2011 10:55

Honeyandsalt - my +1 is my husband, his best mate. Eek. I'm petrified of meeting the groom's mum - I've not seen her since we split up. And I cheated on him. We were teens tho. Hopefully she'll have forgotten.

It's not likely is it.

Maybe I should just wear a sack. And a sandwich board over the top saying 'sorry I wronged your son'.

OP - sorry for the thread hijack. Just get the dress & try it on, ASOS are doing free returns at the mo.

kathy no problem :)

I've got the dress and feel really good in it. After all your comments about the colour, I'll definitely wear it. I'm not as worried about showing too much flesh as it covers more leg than the picture suggests and I am relatively flat chested = no cleavage to speak of (plus I can always safety pin it so it's not quite so low cut).

Thank you all for your fashion advice too, much appreciated!

Oops didn't read the OP properly (and I hate it when other people do that! :o )

I think it's a lovely dress, go for it :)

WilsonFrickett · 11/08/2011 11:16

Love the dress.

Someone sitting behind me at a wedding informed her partner very loudly that green was unlucky at a wedding. That was handy to know, as DH and I were both wearing it.

honeyandsalt · 11/08/2011 11:20

paleand - brilliant! Have fun at the wedding

kathy - lol! Here's your line should you happen to speak with her "Hello! [insert niceity about how well she looks/the wedding/the happy couple here]. It's hard to believe X and I ever went out, it was such a long time ago and we've all changed so much." Life's too short to flagellate yourself over these things forever, just ignore the issue and have a nice time.
