I am in shock that a quarter of a mini pizza is considered a portion size for a n 8 year old child. My 4 year could eat a whole one easily and is not overweight. Obv know pizza is a treat and doesn't have it all the time.

There's nothing 'terrible' about pizza Clothilde but eating an entire large one to oneself (adult or child) isn't going to be particularly healthy when you think of the calorie/fat content.

FFS I knew there one be someone who felt the need to comment on her size. Completely irrelevant and missing the point just to take the opportunity to be a bit bitchy Hmm

TidyDancer · 07/08/2011 15:47

Quite right, Gwen. Jo's size has absolutely fuck all to do with her knowledge on child rearing. There's always one, isn't there?

Sirzy · 07/08/2011 15:49

I would imagine that the nutritional value of the Chicago town type pizzas and a proper homemade one are very different!

mumblejumble · 07/08/2011 15:53

I think it depends on the child. I ate every two hours or so as a child, and whole sandwiches at a time. I was a skinny minny too.
Out of my children, the 4 year old eats constantly, and is definitely not obese.
My 8 year old eats less than the 4 year old. Each child eats according to his appetite and I never force food

worraliberty · 07/08/2011 15:53

It's difficult to say how much fat/calories/salt etc would be in a home made pizza as of course, it depends on what went into it.

Still, I would never feed a large one to a child and I probably wouldn't eat a large one myself.

superjobee · 07/08/2011 15:55

if we have a normal size pizza for tea DD will get a quarter of it with some wedges or hash browns and beans if she's really hungry. the wee chigago town ones she will have a full one once in a blue moon but usually only eats half.

worraliberty · 07/08/2011 15:55

But it's not just about obesity...it's about health.

If a child or an adult has a large appetite, that's probably all the more reason to encourage them to fill themselves up with the healthier side stuff.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 07/08/2011 15:56

Why would you serve potatoes with pizza though? Surely enough carbs in the base. My two (7 and 5) eat half of a 9" pizza each (5 year old leaves crusts so is eating less) with passata, cheese and veg on, with some cucumber, peppers etc on the side, yes it is a bit heavy on fat and salt, but they drink semi skimmed milk so the fat is balanced out a bit and we try and minimise salt elsewhere, I don't think that's too bad.

maypole1 · 07/08/2011 15:59

I do agree is a little hollow if your fat yourself the best way to get a child be be fit is to be fit your seLf hence a the fat child and fat mum

Jo frost mist wAnt to loose a few pounds be fore telling others I am sure form he PR size she is nt eating quarter

biddysmama · 07/08/2011 16:00

i really want a chicago town pepperoni pizza now...

EssentialFattyAcid · 07/08/2011 16:06

The appropriate serving of ice cream was one tablespoon full.

SardineQueen · 07/08/2011 16:15

Who on earth eats potatoes with pizza?

Salad with pizza, surely

Also re. large people telling other people what to eat - it's not brilliant and the NHS has recognised this. Do as I say, not as I do is not that effective.

redglow · 07/08/2011 16:15

No food should be not allowed a pizza occasionaly is fine, just not every day.

valiumredhead · 07/08/2011 16:17

Salad with pizza, surely

chips and garlic bread surely? Grin

LineRunner · 07/08/2011 16:18

I like her. Don't know why, just do. Got some good tips off her programmes over the years, mostly about staying in charge.

I think it's ok to do a bit of gentle teasing about 'asseptible' and the naughty stair; after all she's a successful professional and can take it. The weight thing, not so sure. If the argument is that she is not in a position to give advice on food because she is not slim herself, that would apply to half the NHS staff I know! If you just don't like her because you think she talks shite, then fair enough.

I think her portion sizes are reasonably realistic as part of a meal for young children who eat frequently and healthily.

redglow · 07/08/2011 16:24

Her size has nothing to do with anything. Dont see why people have to be so nasty.

catgirl1976 · 07/08/2011 16:24

I like her too and I am not sure that being overweight means you can't speak about child nutrition. Hmm

worraliberty · 07/08/2011 16:29

No doubt if she was slim, some people would be saying 'what does she know about trying to get people to lose weight? She's never had a weight problem in her life' Hmm

SardineQueen · 07/08/2011 16:31

The NHS have definitely recognised that there is a problem with large HCPs giving others advice on how to live healthily. There was a thing in the papers about it.

Xenia · 07/08/2011 16:35

Pizza is not a great food for children anyway. It is a heap usually of white refined carb and then a small amount of cheese and a lot of procesed tomato. You'd be better with a chunk of meat, rough carb of some kind and veg.

Soups · 07/08/2011 16:44

Good old informative TV, find the worst, unhealthiest pizza and use that as an example. Here's a bowl made of bread, overflowing with melted cheese... better only feed a small amount to your child. Really? Well thanks for that.

Whatever next? Someone will decide to shock us with the fact that a croissant is healthier than toast for breakfast. They could mention it before every ad break on morning TV. AND LATER WE LOOK AT WHAT'S THE BEST BREAKFAST TO KEEP TRIM. A CROISSANT IS BETTER THAN TOAST!!! The full article will come on and yup, it'll be revealed, a small croissant really does have less fat than toast. Did we mention it was toast with 2 bucket loads of real butter on it?

REALLY? Really? Do ya think?? I'm glad not TV prog would be so shite as to spend time shooting such useless drivel. Oh wait ...

SardineQueen · 07/08/2011 16:47

Grin soups

Pizza really isn't the end of the world. Bread, cheese and tomato, with some nice freshly cut veg on top and served with a salad. Yum!

MissVerinder · 07/08/2011 17:20

As a larger lady myself whilst at work and delivering tutorials to teenagers in healthy eating; I was acutely aware of the fact that every one of them was probably thinking what's been said about Jo Frost.
