To send in shop brought samosas for Ramadhan?....

It's Ramadhaan right now and DD (19) works in a call centre where the other fasters bring in TONS of gorgeous yummy HOME-COOKED food. Although DD isn't fasting, she wants to join in and take some samosas into work. She has asked me to help her cook them but I just CBA to spend hours and hours cooking them.

I made a few just before the start of the month and stuck them in the freezer and as there's only me, DD & DS at home we don't normally need to cook massive quantities of food......so bearing in mind that they'll probably taste better just as good as my homemade ones, would it be awful to send in some shop brought samosas?

DD thinks I'm BU and not getting into the spirit of Ramadhaan (being charitable, selfless etc etc) and is now not talking to me!

So what do you all think? (it's my first post here so please be gentle)

"I'm afraid to the majority of Irish people, that's exactly what Lent is... I mean, everyone knows that Lent doesn't count on St Patrick's Day, right? Or birthdays... Or Sundays..."

I'm not really sure about that Lucy

My family are Irish Catholics and some stuck rigidly to it, others didn't and some only in view of their parents.

Much like a lot of the Muslims my Husband works with. As soon as they get into work, they're straight in the canteen eating a full English fry up and pretending to their Wives/Husbands/Parents they're fasting! Grin

I didn't say that she doesn't clean but that she hasn't mastered the art of cleaning as you go along. It took me a while to get used to that one too! She does not expect me to clean up after her.

Anyway we have found a happy compromise, I will teach her how to cook a few (not tons) of samosas and DD will also make some jelly (halal of course) with fruit in and savoury rice which can all be stuck in the fridge and reheated in their microwave just before Iftar.

hissy I think the cigarrette smoking is more a western thing.

Thanks everyone

surely its the same as home made mince pies

who cares if they are home made or not, as long as you can shovel them in with a cup of tea, lovely!

I am amused by the non-muslim poster trying to tell the muslim posters what their religious fasts are all about....

I think the OP should make samosas with her daughter. Homemade is always nicer. Make sure you teach exactly how to do it singlehandedly last time.

worra ooooh that's controversial! Grin

Actually I know of a couple of friends that do the same. It's the whole 'competitiveness' and judgey thing that they get and so it's just easier to pretend than get constant criticism.

Personally I don't see the point of fasting if you're not going to temper other 'bad' behaviour. An ex-colleague kept all the fasts but used to go around effing and blinding, banging furniture around and just being a general PITA. He made everyone around him feel on edge and uncomfortable. I didn't think he was being very charitable or spiritual which is surely a big part of Ramadhan? Confused

Be amused all you like, I have grown up and lived in Islamic countries most of my life. Obviously not competitive as don't believe in God. I do, however respect Islam. And yes, I do fast.

GaramMasalaGirl · 07/08/2011 20:57

khaliwali please forgive me if I come across as antagonistic, that is not my intention. I have grown up and lived in a Christian country for all my life, that doesn't mean I have more than a basic knowledge of Christianity. It certainly doesn't mean that I would dare to tell those of the Christian faith how they should be behaving during a religious festival.
