I've just seen a post on facebook saying that someone is proud that their 6 week old baby has just eaten a whole jar of puree... Shock

Has anyone else seen examples of interesting parenting first hand that they thought were the stuff of MN myth? I honestly didnt think that people this, ahem, naive existed!

Gosh, I wonder if some of you are talking about me?

I put the rear facing car set in the front. But I switch the air bag off.

My 2yo DS went into a forward facing car seat at 6 months. I had no idea of the safety recommendations and trusted the retailers. After being on here DC3 will be in a rear facing seat until he is 18yo.

2yo DS has had cola.

and my 3mo, at the age of 2 weeks had a dummy dipped in sugared water numerous times, to ease the pain when he was admitted to hospital and ended up having a major operation.

Judge all you like

Oh good grief - now children who eat healthily have no friends? What planet are you from? Childhood healthy eating = eating disorder, greediness and no friends in later life.

Noone is saying that, not at all. But to deny your children anything remotely unhealthy is not necessarily going to lead to a lifetime of obesity or eating issues. I didn't children who eat healthily have no friends, I said the precocious twerp who shouts about it at a party has no friends.

My children eat very healthily, but I think it's partly down to luck.

unpa1dcar3r · 04/08/2011 16:31

It's not 4 months again btw

I caught the tail end of some news report recently stating that health professionals are now concerned that babies who are breast fed are not getting enough nutrients after the age of 4 months! I just groaned.

It's all BS anyway, I was governed by what my kids needed; all solid fed at 3 months, in fact younger two before that cos they were always bloody hungry and my boobs were like weapons of mass destruction by then! Could've taken out a whole army with one 360 degree turn.
Solution; solid food, happy baby, happier less tired mummy and defo happier boobies!

Sirzy · 04/08/2011 16:31

If I didnt let Ds have squash he would quickly get dehydrated as no matter how much I try he will not drink water.

Sirzy · 04/08/2011 16:33

Emma they did the same with Ds when he was nil by mouth for 4 days at 8 weeks! Was the only thing that would calm him a lot of the time!

bumbleymummy · 04/08/2011 16:34

Does he not drink milk sirzy? Why squash? Why not diluted fruit juice?

Sirzy · 04/08/2011 16:37

Nope hates milk since dropping bottles at 18 months.

He has squash mostly because that is what I choose to give him. Judge away i really don't care, I care about him drinking more than i care what you think!!

Cocoflower · 04/08/2011 16:39

Squash will have a much higher % of water in than milk.

Fruit juice, whilst it has many benefits can be very high in sugars that occur naturally in fruits.

bumbleymummy · 04/08/2011 16:39

Unpa1d (autocorrect does not like your name! :) ) you missed the numerous discussions on here about that article - it did not go down well! Official guidelines are still 'around six months'.

bumbleymummy · 04/08/2011 16:41

No need to get defensive Sirzy - I doubt anyone is going to change what they feed their child based on someone else's opinion on a forum. I just wonder why you would choose to give squash over diluted fruit juice.

bumbleymummy · 04/08/2011 16:43

Coco, would you choose processed sugar and/or artificial sweeteners over fruit sugar?

ShirleyKnot · 04/08/2011 16:44

bumbley. You seem overly invested in what other people are feeding their children. As you appear to be doing everything perfectly (to you) then I am confused as to why you care so much?

I bloody LOVE squash BTW. Nectar of the Gods.

Sirzy - It's awful isn't it. DS was nil by mouth for 48hrs, heartbreaking to see them so hungry. I would have given him anything! Really buts into perspective alot of things. Like whether or not to allow squash as a drink Smile

ShirleyKnot · 04/08/2011 16:48

(that was a joke by the way)

EmmaTheFox · 04/08/2011 16:50

I think I might back away before I get called a cunt Grin

ThePosieParker · 04/08/2011 16:50

Shirley......I was responding to Bumbley, not sirzy.... I hoped that was clear. I think we're on the same page? [wipes brow]

ThePosieParker · 04/08/2011 16:52

Well Emma don't mind yourself feeding your child the heroin of drinks....carry on giving diabetes in a cup.... But don't ffs get defensive.

ShirleyKnot · 04/08/2011 16:53

heh! Yes, I was making a joke about....AH FORGET IT!

(the best kind of joke is the one you don't have to explain. Wink)

Cocoflower · 04/08/2011 16:54

Bit of both for me and, frankly which ever one dc will actually drink.

If I was trying lose weight then processed sugar all the way

Robinsons No added Sugar: Energy= 8kcal/ 100ml
Tropicana Orange Premium: 47kcal/ 100ml

bumbleymummy · 04/08/2011 16:54

Yes, of course that is what I was saying Hmm Heaven forbid you should disagree with someone's parenting choice or ask them why they chose to give their child a particular drink over another... I didn't realise there was an acceptable list of MN approved judgements.

ShirleyKnot · 04/08/2011 16:54

heroin of drinks?

Sirzy · 04/08/2011 16:55

Lol posie!

I agree Emma! Ds has a great diet on the whole so I really am not worried about him drinking very weak juice!! At dinner today he was offered some chocolate from my dad and some mango - he left the chocolate and went for the mango!

ThePosieParker · 04/08/2011 16:56

It was funny.......but you just don't know!!! Grin

bumbley.... what were you looking for? What answer would have worked?
