to play Dolly Parton to my DDs

Ok, so I do like a bit of Dolly to sing along to in the car from time to time. It's normally a solo activity but a few weeks ago I put her on when the DDs (4 & 3) were in the car as I couldn't face another journey with the Toy Story soundtrack.

They loved it. So now we frequently have some female bonding time blaring out 'I will always love you'.

DH does not like this. Which amuses us all and encourages us. I particularly like it when the DDs spontaneously break into a wobbly rendition of Jolene or Harper Valley PTA in the supermarket or the swimming pool. The look on DH's face is priceless.

So, AIBU to continue to play Dolly to them for the bonding factor and the effect it has on DH, or am I actually condemning them to a livelong love of 'uncool' music and the risk of being laughed at in later years....

I've always liked her, but I was stunned at how beautiful she was when I saw this old interview:

I love Dolly and Emmylou Harris. My DS (3) loves Beatles and David Bowie. I have played the song 'Kooks' to both my kids, and DS often sings it . . . though the other day he was singing the lyric about punching other people's dads (from the song) . . . hopefully he won't sing that around many people.

my DD (4) has a particular fondness for Boney M's Rasputin. Bit odd to hear her sing " Ra Ra Rasputin .... lover of the Russian Queen" ..or " They shot him until he was dead..". It's only when you hear child sing it do you realise how crap the lyrics are.

DP says he will not be doing any more "ironic" CD compilations for the car

Thank you everyone. It's nice to know I'm not alone in the Dolly appreciation. Will be singing along with the car windows down and the stereo on full blast from now on just in case I pass any of you .
