To leave a note on a car....

WhoahThere · 01/08/2011 13:00

Got back to my car after taking dd swimming, to find that someone had parked diagonally, and so close that I could barely open the back door. I was in a mother and child space so a bit annoying that they were well over the line, particularly as there were plenty of other spaces around.

So I managed to manoeuvre dd in, then left a note under the next door car's wipe saying: 'Nice parking! You made it really easy to get my baby into the car - thanks very much and have a great day!'

I am not in any way the mother and baby space police by the way - not bothered at all, but one was available so I used it....

I don't think I was BU at all - what do you reckon?!

I think its a fine note. They should think themselves lucky you didn't dink their car opening your door. Its not hard to park considerately.

Or you could have gone down the treat people how you like to be treated route and moved your car so they couldn't get into theirs without a huge struggle ;)

Personally i think "learn to park wanker" sounds the best response. Blunt and obvious Grin

Op..... What is a 'mother and baby' space??!!

AlpinePony · 01/08/2011 13:35

kenobi I suppose it is. Wink Still better, imo, than a convoluted 3 page essay whining about "parking rights".

I am saving the can-opener response for future use.

PacificDogwood · 01/08/2011 13:35

YANBU.

I have been known to leave notes that say "Nice car. Shame about the parking"

Having said that, being sarky and passive-aggressive in those kind of circumstances is just SO much more satisfying.

Tuschinski · 01/08/2011 13:37

Mother & Baby space = supermarkets etc often have these reserved for people with children they are wider and usually closer to the entrance.

I don't think the note was warranted and if you did feel the need to leave one I think a more polite one would have more impact.

Allinabinbag · 01/08/2011 13:39

I think it's pathetic to leave a note unless you were literally trapped in. Otherwise, it was a bit hard, but you still managed it. I think the less aggressive notes and stroppiness over parking and cars the better, how is it making the world a better place getting all upset about stuff like this?

WhoahThere · 01/08/2011 13:39

ILoveTIFFANY I mean the spaces for people who have children with them. Not sure why I've called it a mother and baby space! Or was that the point you were making?

Yes, parent and child parking is the norm..... No idea if mother and baby was some new fangled thing!! Thank Christ it isn't!

LadyFlumpalot · 01/08/2011 13:41

My mum would have gone straight back into the swimming pool, had them make an announcement for the owner of said car, got them out the pool, dressed and changed just to move their car. She's like that.

She had a car towed once that had parked on the bit of grass outside my childhood home. They had only gone to the shop!

LadyFlumpalot · 01/08/2011 13:42

Dressed and changed? I meant dried and changed! Or dried and dressed. Something along those lines!

PacificDogwood · 01/08/2011 13:46

Grin @ Lady's mother - a woman after my own heart!

I prefer "If you can't park it, don't drive" to the can opener ones and may have to steal it for future use - love it.

kenobi · 01/08/2011 13:49

Beertricks - Someone wrote 'Idiot!' in the dust on DH's car door once. He's not sure why, as he wasn't parked over the line or anything, although the other car was right up to it.

I love that. Maybe it was nothing to do with the parking at all, maybe the person who wrote it had just taken against your DH for no reason whatsoever! Grin

snort, am saving up the tin opener one for future use, i like it!!

tho i also like "if you can't park it, don't drive it" i live where 4x4s are very common (fair enough, rural scotland, some are genuine farmers) and altho most park well, there's always an idiot who can't park for toffee. And they usually park next to me... Grin

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 01/08/2011 14:09

lady flumpalot, wow, your mother takes no shit!! respect!!

HPonEverything · 01/08/2011 14:24

I picture the recipient of the note looking at it like this: Confused, and thinking "well that's novel, I've never been thanked for my parking before!"

You should've just told them straight instead of being passive-aggressive about it.

HPonEverything · 01/08/2011 14:26

On another note (geddit?) I'm always amazed that people actually have easy access to paper and pen in their car.

[makes mental note to get more organised for future note-leaving]

kenobi · 01/08/2011 14:50

My DF is a farmer and shit-hot at driving a horsebox/tractor/trailer/combine harvester etc - I have seen him reverse a trailer up a ramp and along a narrow concrete path with a 6ft drop either side - at speed. It is a source of great amusement to the family that he cannot parallel-park for toffee. He comes to London and spends about 10 mins reversing his car into the space before abandoning it in anger about 20 ft from the kerb.

Next time you could try feeling sorry for the useless country bumpkin instead, Ormirian!

kenobi · 01/08/2011 14:51

Sorry not Ormirian, WhoahThere. Shows who I was thinking about... [freudian]

supadupapupascupa · 01/08/2011 14:56

sometimes, people park all wonky because the people next to them have parked all wonky. Are you sure this is not what had happened op?

If not, then YANBU.

TheOriginalFAB · 01/08/2011 14:56

I always have a pen and paper in the car as you never know when you will need some Grin.
