To be worried??? Husband thinks i'm being silly

Please look at the pictures of my DH's eye on my profile, they are not too clear as i had to zoom and crop but i'm worried about my DH. For months i've noticed his pupils at times are really different in size and in photos one eye looks funny.

The eye i'm worried about seems to have a white mark on the pupil, not the whole pupil just a bit on the bottom. You can only see this in photos. If i try and remove red eye from it there is always a small white area left on the pupil!

He thinks he doesn't need an eye test Angry

go to specsavers
pretend its for reading glasses
their eye test is as good as anybodys

ilovechoclate · 30/07/2011 21:06

I agree this isn't the place but i'm showing him this later. Then he might see i'm not the only one who thinks like me.

Just going to re-iterate what a pp said. I did a survey online about eye tumours and the white mark on photos was a major indicator. Get him to get checked out asap.

EuphemiaMcGonagall · 30/07/2011 21:07

I think some people on here need sight tests! Grin

DrPolidori · 30/07/2011 21:10

Indeedy, we xposted on that one, TheFog!

I know I need an eye test. Well Idon't actually need an eye test, I need fabulously expensive trifocals. Ah! the perils of aging!

Sirzy · 30/07/2011 21:10

I would use that line of approach though "if DCs eyes were looking like that would you get it checked? then why wont you get yours checked?" May be a harsh way of doing it but its a better safe than sorry type time.

BlueFergie · 30/07/2011 21:11

ilovechocolate - I don't want to scare the shit out of you but I have heard about something like this before. The person I heard about is known to a friend of mine. She had seen some documentary on the TV about a rare disease of which one of the symptons was a white spot on the pupil only showing up in photos. She noticed that her own grandchildren. She got them checked put and they did have the disease (as far as I can recall it is some type of tumour).
I have to emphasise I have not seen the documantary and I do not know this woman so my information is second hand and likely inaccurate in places. Nonetheless the white spot thing stuck in my mind especially that it eas only noticable in photos. Go to a good eye optometrist and quickly

DartsRus · 30/07/2011 21:11

I agree, your DH needs to see optician or doctor. A white mark on a pupil in photos is a major indication something's not right. This was mentioned to me at my last eye test.

OneDove · 30/07/2011 21:11

Hi. My daughter had a similar White mark. She was extra sensitive to light and complained it was sore. Turned out to be a corneal ulcer. Easily treated with eyedrops and it's back to normal.
Does your DH have any symptoms? Def get it looked at though .

LoveBeingAtHomeOnMyOwn · 30/07/2011 21:12

Op seriously please get him checked out, the fact you can only see it in photos is concerning me.

gallicgirl · 30/07/2011 21:12

You should have eye tests every couple of years even if you don't need glasses, particularly if you drive.

YANBU and should force him to go to optician asap.

Ingles2 · 30/07/2011 21:14

FGS what is wrong with men? Get to the optician and get it checked out FFS.
would you rather be blind?

Could well be nothing though, but still worth a check. my ds1 has a condition called Adie's pupil where one pupil doesn't dilate. He's has this from birth and doesn't affect him or his eyesight at all. If you saw him, you want to get him to the optician quick smart though

ilovechoclate · 30/07/2011 21:15

He says he has no symptoms at all! I will tell him i'm making an appointment for us all to have a check up, i dunno, maybe he scared?

OP posts:
ilovechoclate · 30/07/2011 21:17

ingles Grin thats exactly what i said to him! I told him i'm not leading him to the pub if he loses his sight through his own stupidity

OP posts:
ilovechoclate · 30/07/2011 21:17

well here goes, i'm going to get him to read this, thankyou

OP posts:
bananacurry · 30/07/2011 21:24

Get it checked. Always better safe than sorry when eyesight/life is concerned!!!

PhilipJFry · 30/07/2011 21:30

Definitely get it checked out. It could be something really serious, or even something small that grows worse and worse over time. Better to nip it in the bud now if there is a problem, rather than wait and there be some kind of bigger issue to deal with later on. Our eyesight is incredibly precious and it would be terrible to have it damaged :(

Poweredbypepsi · 30/07/2011 21:36

tell him that I spent months telling my husband his eyes were a funny colour (the whites were off white/yellow). When he finally went to the doctor he was ill because he had left it so long (some sort of liver infection still not entirely sure of a cause to this day) he got so ill he lost his job and we ended up in debt, moving house he had depression. All because he wouldnt listen and go to the doctor because he was scared - of all the stuff that didnt have to happen if he had gone to the doctor in the first place Confused

AmazingBouncingFerret · 30/07/2011 21:41

Why is the internet no place for this?
The OP is worried about her DH, who wont do anything about the problem. Why cant she discuss that on here?

Confused

Is this some new hush hush subject you're not allowed to speak of? Eye problems? Oh no! Don't post on mumsnet tis not the place you know... Hmm

WhoseGotMyEyebrows · 30/07/2011 21:44

This is so weird, was just on another thread and someone posted this . . .

Recently took ds to docs as he had white eye in photos and a squint - luckily it looks like it is just lazy eye.

How weirds that! A completely unrelated thread as well.

ilovechoclate · 30/07/2011 21:48

well....... he's said ok he'll go for check up as long as i'm tested also Grin

He said he didn't think it was such a big deal but has agreed to go so i'm happy. thankyou all very much, the power of mumsnet hey?

amazingbouncingferret your right, i've read about willies, fanjos, pubic hair ect on here, so i think eyes are an ok subject.

Now i have to remove the photos as my Dh wants them off!

princessglitter · 30/07/2011 21:48

That was my thread. Reinoblastoma was was I was worried about. generally only affects children but is v v v rare. My Gp said he may possibly see one case in his lifetime. Is always worth checking out - GP can easily check if eyes are responding to light ok.

princessglitter · 30/07/2011 21:49

*retinoblastoma

OnEdge · 30/07/2011 21:50

Dr.P you sound like a bit of a twat !

BillComptonstrousers · 30/07/2011 21:51

I'm a dispenser in an opticians and I really would advise you to take him and get it checked ASAP, it could be something serious. Not trying to worry you, but try and get him in for monday, or see if there is a high street optician open tomorrow near you.
